When the love of her life disappeared without a trace, Laura Brighton eventually accepted the fact that she’d never know why.
Until she found out.
Fifteen years after she vanished, Mel Kippling returned with answers and a plea for forgiveness. Come along as Laura learns how to let go and determines if second chances are all they’re cracked up to be.
A.K. Rose writes emotionally rich stories about love, loss, and the complicated ways we find our way back to each other.
Her work explores second chances, chosen family, and what it means to rebuild a life—especially when it doesn’t look the way you expected.
Drawn to settings that feel as alive as the characters themselves, she often writes about places that hold memory, history, and the possibility of reinvention.
When she’s not writing, she can usually be found chasing mountain air, good coffee, and the quiet moments that make a life feel full.

2.5stars! Just a tiny bit better than book #1. Don't have the urge to recommend this series to anyone...
Second Chances, the second installment in the Laura & Mel series and we find Laura wondering if she can do this dance again with Mel. She does not want to meet her lover of 15 years ago, she is a different person now. She had other lovers over the years, all men. She knew that another woman would never have been able to replace what she and Mel once had. No, she feels she still harbors too much resentment towards Mel to see her again.
And yet …
So she goes and meets Mel in exactly the same Starbucks as 15 years ago and she does hear Mel’s side of the story and she does agree on having drinks after and when Mel walks her home she lets her. And when Mel kisses her it feels like the only true thing that has ever existed in the world.
These are easy short reads, no enormous drama-rama, no panty-melting explicitness, no major bumps in the road. There is still some head hopping and I thought the daughter was a bit too perfect (and not really acting like a normal sullen teen would act).
f/f not explicit
Themes: New York, they meet again at the same Starbucks, successful writer, both women are different people now, there is a daughter, Laura meets Laura, a family crisis back home in Ohio, a surprise in the parking lot, not much excitement really.
What’s to say other than the story is progressing nicely! Laura and Mel’s relationship is evolving. It’s a sweet love story of second chances. I liked it very much!
