This was an interesting concept for an anthology wherein the author gives the reader an introduction to three different series. When I saw that was the case I was, admittedly, a bit nervous that I would be treated to the first book in a series and each book would have a cliffhanger ending. I am happy to report that this was not the case. Each book in the anthology introduces us to a wide variety of characters and the first and third books share characters, though it took me a bit to realize that. Each book has a strong storyline that takes the reader through quite an emotional ride. They are full of romance and intrigue and the sex scenes are explicit enough to carry my recommendation of "for mature audiences only". I will say that, of the three novels/series, my favorite was Autumn's Blood. I am very interested to read more about this extremely unique take on shapeshifter romance and where the story of Blake and Autumn will take us. There is a rich tapestry of secondary characters in that novel, as well, and I can definitely tell that there is a lot of meat left on that bone. I will be looking for the rest of the books in that series, for sure.
I am also interested to see what more is in store for Serenity and Sebastian (Alone) and for Elizabeth and Riley (Twisted Dreams). All in all, great characters, interesting stories, and a unique take on shapeshifters. Well done.
Great vampire romance novel. This was a bit out of the ordinary romance book. A grim tale that has its ups and downs to the plot. But it’s captivating. I love Sebastian! I also love the tenacity of Serenity. It’s a great read. Looking forward to the next book!
I've reviewed all three books separately, so while all three were good, not all three were five star material but good they were good enough together in this boxed set to give the whole thing five stars..
Book One: Serenity Series Alone 11.22-11.23 3 Stars This was surprisingly good, even though it's part of like a five book serial, there is no crazy cliffhanger, at least not in this first book. Serenity was a strange character, she went from being an extremely abused wife to a mouthy, sassy little thing. Which I thought was cute but also frustrating as I understand after years of being abused first by your step-father then by your husband, yeah it's difficult to extract yourself from that situation, doesn't matter how many opportunities you get. What frustrated me about her was the reaction she had towards Sebastian, so he's a vampire, I would take disbelief over disgust any day! I was so disappointed at her reaction, especially after everything he did for her. I mean yeah she came around, eventually but still the whole 'freak' thing was totally unnecessary!
Despite this being a five part serial, they do seem very interesting with different stories in each book but all revolving around Serenity and Sebastian, so I guess they eventually get their HEA. I usually don't read more than two books based on the same character(s), three might be pushing it, but this series actually seems interesting enough for me to give a go, so we'll see....
Book One: The Spirit Shifter Series Autumn's Blood 11.24-11.25 4 Stars This is also part of a serial, though as with Alone from the Serenity series, it doesn't end on a devastating cliffhanger. This read was much more engaging than Alone as the characters and plot were more action packed. Plus Autumn was a more strong willed, independent and courageous female lead. I liked her a lot, despite her looks she was super intelligent and didn't allow anyone to treat her any less than what she was or deserved.
Blake was decent enough though his back and forth attitude and behavior towards Autumn was increasingly frustrating. One minute he wanted to be with her, the next he was pushing her towards the cousin he hated the most, only to go after again...blah blah blah! Outside of that he was very protective of her and the other shifters as was his Spirit Shifters job.
Book One: The Dhampyre Chronicles Twisted Dreams 11.27-11.28 4.5 Stars This was a very good intro into the spinoff from The Serenity Series, introducing the 'almost' grown-up daughter of human Serenity and vampire Sebastian. The author does mention that while this is a spinoff from that particular series, you don't need to read that entire series in order to enjoy this book, which was great for me as I only read the first book in the Serenity series, as part of this Blood and Moon boxed set so it would have been confusing.
With that being said, there were a few things Elizabeth mentioned from her childhood that I'm guessing took place during her parents series that had me a bit confused but nothing that took away from this story, just a comment here and there. Other than that, this book was all her own and Riley's. I enjoyed her character very much, unlike her mother who was very much victimized by everyone she came into contact with, until she met Sebastian, Elizabeth wasn't like that at all. She was all Sass and while she did like to maintain a low profile, she didn't allow anyone to abuse, mistreat, nor victimize her in any way, shape or form. She totally stood up for herself, even when Riley and Flynn were trying to protect her.
The storyline was super interesting and a definite page turner, it keeps the reader engaged because while these are young college aged kids, they don't act stupid nor reckless like you'd expect. They're mature, with a secretive nature that makes you want to keep reading just to see what the hell is going to happen next. Best part of all...no cliffhanger...not even a slight one. Definitely a series I will come back too..
I have read all three of the books in the past and love Marissa Farrar's stories; for anyone who's new to this author here is a great idea for a compilation, an introduction to three different series. These are the reviews I left after reading each of the books:- Alone - Really good story of a woman escaping the trauma of an abusive marriage, helped by a handsome vampire. Their relationship is then hampered by a jealous, powerful rival - will there be a happy ending? Autumn's Blood - As a fan of Marissa Farrar's books I was not in the least disappointed with this first book in her latest series. A great mix of action, conflict, romance, all with a little science thrown in, bringing all the characters' stories together in a fast paced page turner....bring on book 2! Twisted Dreams: The Dhampyre Chronicles - I initially didn't realise who Elizabeth was, but soon made the connection with the Serenity series. Grown up and making a bid for independence at college, something very mysterious lies in store for Elizabeth. I really liked the way the mystery builds up, with the introduction of some strange locals, including an all-American sporty good guy as well as a very dishy 'bad' boy. In typical Marissa style plenty of twists are included in this story, is anyone what they initially seemed? Looking forward to the series developing.
Serenity (Book 1) I thought that it was okay, considering how many Paranormal books I've read I tend to be a bit harsher after reading so many books with the same plot. 'Oh I'm a helpless damsel, oh wait I meet a Vampire and become feisty.' Aside from that It was an okay read.
Autumn's Blood (Book 2) I had been looking forward to reading this for a while and it was worth it! There's just something I like about reading books with Government facilities that engage me.
Twisted Dreams (Book 3) A Spin-off series that doesn't require you to read the main series (Although it helps). It was nice meeting the daughter of Serenity and Sebastian in this book, I enjoyed this way more than the first book in this boxed set. (I now need to read the next book)
Enjoyed this author my first post and the first book of hers I've read, that being said I was somewhat surprised to learn she (the author) had four proof reader's my apologies but personally I found quite a few errors. It is understandable that not all errors can be eliminated but as an avid daily reader these were obvious for that reason alone, I rated the book for stars.
I fell in love with the main character Elizabeth in the Serenity Series and was very excited to read her story. As usual Marissa Farrar does not disappoint. The story is gripping and exciting with lots to hold your attention. It's fast paced, but not to fast. I look forward to reading the rest in this series and highly recommend this great read!
These books are good and mom and I enjoyed them specially the first one it was really good I really enjoyed the mall they really was fun and I wish I had more GSA good thank you very much
