There’s a liar who lives inside us all. We lie because we’re selfish creatures. White lies, skirting the truth, half-truths...we have valid reasons for telling them. But, could a lie ever have good intentions? This is a short story about three liars.
allyn lesley writes real stories about real people.
As a teen, allyn lost herself in the pages of some of Romance’s heavyweights, trusting that a happy ever after was just around the corner. In allyn’s own writing journey, as in life, she’s learned that people don’t always experience recovery and restoration after a fall. Her stories speak to the gritty side of life where the right choice isn't always easily identified and happiness not quickly gained.
Sadly it took me longer to write my review than it did to read Liar. After reading it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to say besides “umm ok “. I have mixed feeling about this one. I’m confident Liar could have been so much better if
The story was longer - to give time for character and story development. The back and forth time jump - it was very confusing and distracting.
While I understand Gabe had a self esteem issues I couldn’t wrap my head around why his brother would have the extremely long elaborate facade with Lori. I’m sure things could have been handled another way. The ending was a surprise, honestly I was expecting something different. While I wasn’t impressed with the story I would still consider more of Allyn’s work.
This was my very first read by Allyn. I was a beta reader for this short before she published Deeper. I really enjoyed it! I had no idea what to anticipate, but the story was incredibly sweet. When you think you go unnoticed, someone is always watching and waiting for the right moment, the right opportunity to make magic happen. I received a free digital copy of this title for review via New Adult Book Club. That did not affect my opinion.

Honestly, I found a few factors of this story difficult. Based on the description of the scar in question, I thought Gabe was someone extremely self-conscious (which can be a great character point) but to later hear ? Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought it was said to be an inch long scar… on his face… That shouldn't have given him that sort of issue. Again, I don't know if maybe I misread something. My second big hurdle was the entire underlying plot. That whole thing just… baffled me. I had expected some "terrible" secret, but not that. I suspected I was being set up for a big "your brother is ", not "".
I would be up for trying out some of her other books, but this one went too far over the valley for me. :(
The story was so sweet yet still clinging to hot. Each of the characters had something to offer the reader. It has a gritty side to the story that made it more in tune of what you might see going on today. The book has an international appeal to it as you can see it happening in any high school.
What made it lose the star for me was the then and now jumps. Sometimes it threw me clean out the book. That's something that I struggled with but got through it. I'm glad I did so I could enjoy the story I found within.
'Liar', a short story by Allyn Lesley, is a sweet tale involving three individuals whose lives become intertwined with a backdrop of a college campus. Unfortunately I couldn't quite connect with either Lori, Gabe or Gage and I'm blaming it on the fact that it was a very short story. There wasn't enough background for me to become fully invested in what happened to any of them. I liked the author's style and found no fault where her writing was concerned. Perhaps if it were a full length novel it would have pulled me in a bit more.
This was a very short read, which I quite enjoyed! When I first started reading it, I had no expectations or ideas what I was going into. I was very pleased with the results. It was a cute and sweet read. This is a great book when you are looking for a book to fill a short period of time you may have!
A good little short romance. This was an interesting story. What brothers wouldn’t do for one another! Gabe has an issue he can’t get past. His brother, Gage tries to help him out. Wait until you see what happens when there’s a girl involved. It became quite touchy, so to speak. I would recommend this book to everyone. I enjoyed it, and it was quick
I loved reading Liar by Ally Lesley. It was a quick but great read. In reading thee story you hope that Gabe will tell Lori how he feels. The ending was great. I recommend this book for anyone who likes good stories.
Gabe lies to himself about his feelings for his brother's fiance, Lori. Gage is lying about his involvement with Lori and her best friend, Kelli. But Lori might just be the biggest liar of all.
This is an extremely short story but it's an entertaining read with a cute twist at the end.
Romantic story of a girl and two brothers. I won't give anything away but I was rooting for one of the brothers and I got my HEA. Short quick read but you will be invested in the characters.
I received this in exchange for an honest review. It was a quick read, but very sweet. I was rooting for one of the characters and as I hoped I got my wish.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I loved it. It's a short read and is currently free. It was a cute and sweet read with an unexpected ending.
This is a cute short story of twins Gabe and Gage and one girl named Lori...one brother wants her....the other has her...or does he??? I enjoyed this quick fun read....go enjoy!
This story was just fantastic. Deserves ten stars. How much the brothers loved each other was amazing. Happy you shared this story, Ms Lesley. Thank you.
