The surprise brides series ends on a strong NorwEgian, the baby and his socialite Beth. I loved this story as it ties the entire series together and has a HEA which is a good thing. A great effort by 4 great women authors.
And so, another western historical romance series has come to an end!
And yes, I just treated myself to a new western historical romance series via Amazon, and bought many, many (eeek!) books from ThriftBooks today (as I wanted to take advantage of their 2x point day, of course!).
I will be dropping off The Surprise Brides series (as well as a few other books) to the local Salvation Army Thrift Store. And yeah, I'm now doing Bookcrossing as well.
This is the final book in this series. This one is written by Sylvia McDaniel and is written very well. Ethan is the youngest of the four boys, and Beth is from a rich family in Chicago who is to merry another. Yet she ran to another man. Ethan did not want to merry he thought he wanted more time to make up his mind. Yet things happen, what can they be. Enjoyable read. You will enjoy it.
Beth eventually came around, but she was the most difficult character to like in the series - not just because she was shallow, but because her dialogue was quite repetitive.
This is a series where each book is written by a different author. For the most part, I found this one tried to connect with events with books 1-3, though at times there were parts that didn't completely match up. Over all, I liked this story a lot. I liked the author's portrayal of Ethan and Beth.
Ethan wasn't an idiot like his three older brothers. I found him to be a lot smarter, more trusting, flirty, charming, protective and sweet with his wife. Even if he had issues with his wife, he didn't turn on the idiot side of his brain and say or do stupid things. Thank heavens! That was refreshing.
Beth had a lot to learn, as she was a spoiled girl from an extremely rich family. She really didn't want the marriage fully, just in name. Ethan had his work cut out for him if he was going to win over her love and affection.
This story had me smiling and chuckling a few times. I definitely loved all of the times Ethan woke up his wife with kisses and how affection he was as well as his sweet endearments from the start of their marriage.
I didn't want to like Beth, the society runaway debutante turned mail-order bride. I absolutely didn't like that the mother of the four men forced them to marry just because she thought it was time. It was pretty chivalrous that the brothers complied to save the reputation of both their mother and the women brides. Beth tries hard and works to earn the respect of the rest of the family. This makes her a better person than me. I am that city pampered female that shudders at the thought of farm animals and chores. But Beth wants to be accepted so tries her best even though she intends to leave as soon as she can. Time and family and feelings grow so there is soon love and decisions to be made. Can she still run back to Chicago?
I really enjoyed this book about Ethan and his surprise bride, Beth. Running from an arranged marriage to an old family friend, Beth accepts Ethan' s proposal. Only Ethan nor his three brothers are aware of their mother's plot to get them wives. Beth is spoiled and used to a wealthier lifestyle than ranch life. Ethan lives above the barn in a loft and it's quite humorous as Beth tries to adapt to this new life. Beth cannot wait to escape back to her father as a married woman and live a life alone. Ethan will forget about her eventually, won't he?
Although I enjoyed the series and the mishaps, this book/story left me angry. I understand the point of Ethan making a place in the barn as his own. What young man doesn't want his own space? But I can't understand why any family member would allow a newly married man live in a BARN with his new bride. There were two other houses that could have been used but no one wanted to let them use any. Then at the end the new rich bride couldn't get any money to have a house built?
The authors in this series did a fantastic job. Sometimes when different authors write a series, the details get lost and there is a disconnection. However, in this instance, all the details were not lost and the flow was great.
I loved this story. I felt Ethan and Beth were a great match and I loved there story. I loved the transformation of Beth through out this story and the way Ethan changed with it.
This was a sweet, fast read. I love this story and the characters. Beth is a strong and courageous woman who knows how to keep on going when things get tough. Ethan is a kind country boy who knows how to support and encourage his wife even if she was a mail ordered bride. If you're looking for a story to curl up to with a cup of coffee or tea this is the story for you.
