The Twelfth day by Alicia Dean a five-star read. This is the first book by Alicia Dean I have read, and it won’t be the last. This is a Christmas book with a twist, and plot twists that keep you guessing until the last few pages. The story is about Sabrina Spencer, a high school science teacher who has a deep-seated hatred of all things Christmas so she has plans to lock herself in a cottage in the middle of nowhere to watch some Chickadees nesting and eating sunflower seeds, she plans to record it for her students to watch, as she has no other plans for the holidays she may as well make the most out of her time. Her hatred of Christmas revolves around the song the Twelve days of Christmas as when she was a young and carefree teenager someone murdered her family and hummed the sing while keeping her tied to a chair. Something she has managed to put behind her as much as possible, until twelve days before Christmas she starts to receive messages. Sabrina starts to panic but manages to keep a level head, and it helps that she has a hot handyman to keep her distracted Josh Craven is everything she needs to distract her, some man candy that his handy assistant Dustin Reynolds keeps revealing details about, like the fact he likes to drink and hook up. Sabrina feels safe with him, as he wouldn’t be interested in her. She’s just a science nerd, unless his interest in her is less than savoury, lots of people are interested in her after the murders. Is Josh the person behind it? Or is it a case of mistaken identity? You will have to read the book to find out.
A great set of crime stories by some great authors! All of these stories were awesome! I can’t really pick a favorite. They were all written really well, with great detail, and kept you reading on. The first story tells of an abused little boy and his trials and tribulations. Another story consists of ex-FBI agent and his friend and their girlfriends. It tells of how they catch burglars dressed as Santa and what Sydney and Grey do for the Women’s Shelter. Another story tells about Jamey’s pop being harassed. Things start happening that causes alarm. The catch in this story is who is doing it! Another story tells about the take-down of 2 people who are getting women to work for ISIS. There’s also a little romance involved. Another story tells about a robbery in a toy store that turns bad. The 911 dispatcher becomes deeply involved. There’s also some romance in this story. Another story is told in an odd sort of way. It’s told in segments or dreams. It tells how Monty’s ex gets released from prison, and what happens when he comes back after her. Another story tells about a failing writer who lands a great story to write. A biography about a serial killer. What happens when he kind of gets her under his spell, so to speak, is astounding. Another story tells about someone, who was tortured when she was a teen. She tries to escape to a cabin at Christmas to get away. The person who tortured her is in jail. But she starts getting messages that make her think he’s out. What happens when he shows up at the cabin?! She’s a very quick thinker! Also, a little romance involved. I would recommend this set of books to everyone, because they are awesome reads.
I purchased this set because I love the books of Misty Evans, Adrienne Giordano, and Alexa Grace but I must say that now I love every author who contributed to the set. I was sure there would be several novellas that I would enjoy; from past experience I believe that these authors are very careful about who they work with but eight amazing novella our of eight is a wonderful surprise. While there are definitely edge or your seat moments most of the books are not too dark for a Christmas collection; on the other hand, they are not a typical holiday selection either. They are wonderful suspense tales mostly with strong Christmas setting.
