Short term memory can handle from 5 to 9 items for 30 seconds
With age, the memory deteriorates because people don't make effort to strengthen connections between neurons, not because neurons die
This means that with training even old people can have a great memory
Linking method: link items in one story to remember them
PEG system: each number from 0 to 99 has an image associated with it
Major system: each number from 0 to 9 has sound associated with it
Memory palace
To remember name: 1. Make sure you hear name clearly 2. Repeat the name to the person 3. Come up with image 4. Find peculiar feature on a person's face 5. Glue picture and peculiar feature on person's face
