With a picture book like this, I normally don’t read much of the essay, just the captions under the pictures.
But I flipped the essay section open to see what he had expounded and lo and behold… it was a good font size (who’s getting old!???) and a very easy read, (I’m not studying, I’m relaxing, enjoying a book!) and it was relatively short, basically a broad overview of England’s history, from the 400s to modern times.
It was easy to read, I didn’t need to have any background in English history. It was a great overview. I really surprised myself by finishing, and being able to finish the “lecture part” of the picture book.
Another note: there was one caption for about three or four pictures, which meant you had to turn the page-the caption for most pictures was not on the same page. The pictures took up the whole page.
