I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book 4.5 stars which rounds up to 5.

So first off, I just have to say that Jacqueline Smith wins for writing the best dedications. On her dedication page she writes, “I’ve dedicated enough books to my family and friends. This book is for my cat. And Harry Styles.” But honestly, let’s be real, enough books are dedicated to people’s family and friends. Random side note: I freaking love Harry Styles.

description

Okay, so back to the book. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked this, but I didn’t like it as much as the first one which is why I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5. The reason why I didn’t like it as much was because nothing super duper exciting happened until the last 50 pages. The last 50 pages were the core of the story and they were a crazy 50 pages. Pretty much all hell broke loose and their world kind of imploded. It was insane and will definitely make you want to read the third book. That’s actually something I really like about this series; it always leaves you wanting more.

Another thing I really like about this series, especially in this book, is that it explores the intricacies of being in a boy band. Being a celebrity is one thing, but being a part of a famous group is another. There’s just so much that goes on backstage that we never see, it’s no wonder that so many of them end up going their separate ways. This book in particular really highlighted that well.

Overall, this was a great installment to the Boy Band series. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

4/5 Stars

Summary:
This is the second book in the Boy Band series, it follows Melissa and a band The Kind of September who are one of the top boy bands in the world! With this second installment in the series, paradise becomes a bit hazy. People are keeping secrets from each other. Trust is severed and hearts are broken.

Dislikes:
Personally Jesse was just ruined for me here because of what he did and it just made me so frustrated because he handled the situation like a 12 year old pre-pubescent boy. That is just a personal nitch though.

Likes:
The story flowed perfectly with good plot and perfectly placed twists. I love Jacqueline's writing so much. I swear it just gets better with every book!

Overall:
I enjoyed the book but not as much as the first one. The story is fast paced, you will not be able to put this book down. Definitely give this series a go if you like contemporary :)

**SHAMELESS PLUGGING: You can also visit my blog https://ninireadspng.wordpress.com/ for more reviews (with gifs) and more bookish posts **

DISCLAIMER: EVEN THOUGH THIS BOOK WAS SENT TO ME BY THE AUTHOR FOR REVIEW, MY OPINIONS AND THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK WAS NOT IN ANY WAY BIASED OR MANIPULATED.

CHARACTERS. I am going to repeat myself again, I am absolutely inlove with The Kind of September! Sam and Oliver are ultimate babes! I can't get enough of them, actually I need more of them! I could use all the exclamation points the world has to offer to prove my point! I am in tears and deep gratitude to Jacqueline for making me a part of this adventure. The boy band, drama, characters, fans and every single persona related thing in this book is lovable and relatable.Of course this excludes the monstrous freak named Tara Meeks. I appreciate that her friend, (i forgot her name), is not in the scene anymore. Thank you!

PLOT. It's pretty explanatory that since this book is a sequel to Boy Band, it'll have the same aspects and vibe like the first novel. But this one features a more complex and bitterly sweet story line. I praise Jacqueline again for a book that gives off the most relaxing aura. Everything in the book seems natural and not super predictable. There were twists and turns, secrets and betrayals but overall everything seemed worth all the painful feels. I appreciate that the writer took into consideration of explain most of the things since this can stand as an individual novel as well.

WRITING STYLE. All I can say about the writing style in this book is that, it is exquisite and simple at the same time. Everything was put into thought and very well-written. Omg the kisses and intimate moments!!! Thank you for not proceeding with a sex scene! The words chosen by the author mix in very well and are fitting for the vibe that she pulled off. They give depth and meaning without being too metaphorical and confusing. I continued to enjoy the song choruses each chapter, may it be from Chloe, Morning Muses or TKOS!

ROMANCE. OH MAH GODS! Perfect! Spot on! Beautiful couple with a touch of love triangle drama. (I can't say anymore or else I'll end up spoiling all of you Cheeselings!)

FINAL VERDICT. If you're looking for a book, read this. If you're looking for a hot boy band, read this. If you're looking for some awesome one-sitting contemporary, read this! PEOPLE JUST READ THIS!

Since the first book in this series ended with a cliffhanger, I just couldn’t wait to dive into Backstage. I was so engrossed into this story and these characters, I just needed to see what would happen.

Now I don’t want to spoil anything so I’m not going to go into details but damn did this book keep me on my toes!

Sam and Mel went through a lot of tests, and every time I was so curious to know how they were going to handle everything and if they were going to make it out alive. To say I was emotionally invested would be an understatement.

I just adored them and I was rooting for them throughout this books. I had a goofy smile on my face the whole time because they were so adorable!

Don’t let me get into the other members of the band because I just love them all and I would just ramble on about them and I can’t choose between them! They all have these elements that make them unique and like them in their own way. Oh, and I WANT A CHRISTMAS ONESIE PLEASE!

I also enjoyed the lyrics at the beginning of every chapters and can I just say the tweets were hilarious?

I laughed, I talked some sense into the characters and just experienced everything just like they were. Did I mention that I LOVED how Jacqueline could make you feel like you were right there with the characters? Well I do.

I’m just in love with this series and I’m happy there will be another book to come! After the ending in this book, I want to know how everything will play out!

Worldwide, I’m waiting for you!

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way alters my opinion of the work.
“All those romance movies would have you believe that once you find that one perfect guy, everything else just magically falls into place. The real problem with stories like that is that they end before the Ever After part actually begins.”
First off, the dedication page in this book is hilarious and made me chuckle so I feel like that should be acknowledged.

Secondly, ohmygoodness why am I such a fiend for this angsty romance stuff?

It does not matter how old you are. Angst makes for a good read, and this book is no exception to that rule. I especially like that the characters are around my age. Don't get me wrong, I love YA novels (they are my first love and my current obsession) but it's nice to have a break from reading about 16 and 17-year-olds... Not that those additional few years makes these characters exempt from all the drama that comes along with secret romances and bad friendships. Now put that drama on a "worldwide" stage because we're talking about a boy band here!

The writing is fantastic and fun to read! Melissa is such an easy protagonist to like, which is great because I find myself quite easily annoyed by YA heroines these days. Her narration is just so likable. I don't know how else to explain it. In regard to the characters in this sequel, we have some of the boys being cute and charming as per usual, and some of the others--specifically two of them--acting like idiots (and bad friends) over a girl who is definitely not worth the drama. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to be a Sally Spoiler.

Again, there is the predictability that comes along with plotlines like this, but that does not take away from the book's overall entertainment value. The reader can expect that things will blow up eventually; they just have to keep waiting and waiting for that explosive moment. So exciting!

I know I've only read book 1 and 2, but I can confidently say that this entire series is so fast-paced and hard to put down! Each book ends on an intense moment, so you can't help but start the next one! Fortunately, I started out with all three books in my possession (Thank you, Jacqueline) so I did not have to freak out about not having the second book after Boy Band's cliffhanger.

This shouldn't surprise you at all, but I'm starting to read Worldwide right away. You can expect the review in a couple of hours.

Backstage is the second book of Boyband series. It follows the secret romance between Melissa Park and the very famous Sam Morneau, member of the hottest Boyband: The Kind of September.

I super love the holiday vibe on the first chapters. It's a perfect backdrop for Sam and Melissa's moments. I have mentioned on my review for the book 1 that I need more of Sam and Mel's moments and that's what I get on this book. It's just a right amount though and not over the top, just enough to make you swoon from first page up to the last! The characters of this book are so amazing! You'll adore the main characters and the whole TKOS squad. And I'm sure as hell that you'll despise with all your heart and soul the antagonist. I swear I was infuriated.

While this sequel has a lot more drama (and betrayals) than the first book, i am so amazed how the author still managed to make the story less heavy. The writing style is very reader friendly, I think anyone could get addicted with Jacqueline E. Smith's stories.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. I'm not gonna lie, i love it more than the first one. The ending is so cute, i felt so giddy and so happy and so needy cos I can't wait! I can't wait what's going to happen next now that- okay i have to keep my mouth shut now before I accidentally spill one of the best parts of the story 😂🤐

So yeah, it has everything I want in a YA Contemporary: awesome characters that are still relatable, right amount of drama, and a whole lot of feel-good moments. I highly suggest it to those who loves to have a feel-good reading experience and especially to those who are fan of Kasie West's books!

I have been waiting for this sequel for months and it goes without saying that I devoured it in one sitting as soon as I had time. Boy Band ended with a cliffhanger I never saw coming. It was explosive and terrifying.
I went into this book with a horrible feeling in my stomach, waiting for the shoe to drop. There is a huge secret being harbored by a couple people that could destroy everything the guys and girls have worked for. It could even destroy the relationships they have with each other.
I have grown emotionally attached to the characters ever since book one, especially Sam and Mel, and it hurt to see so many things tearing them apart. I am so scared to read what is going to happen next with the boys but I will hold on to the little hope I have. My heart goes out to every single one, since to me, they feel as if they were my very own set of best friends. They made me tear up and laugh just like any friend would.
Sam and Mel are one of the most adorable couples I have read about. I am a sucker for a best-friend-turned-boyfriend relationships and they never failed to make me incredibly happy inside.
This book was little cliche but did I mind it? Heck no! I seriously loved how Jacqueline incorporated lyrics from songs by TKOS on top of every chapter. It gave it a wonderfully realistic feel and they always touched my heart.
This book was full of drama and beautiful romantic moments. It was full of betrayal and loyalty. It was hilarious and heart-breaking. I think this is one of the rare moments where I am in love with a cliffhanger!! Ahh! I loved it so much that I am willing to wait forever for whatever happens next. The happiness I feel over that ending will keep me floating until the next book comes out, no doubt!

What happens when you're secretly dating the hottest member of the world's most popular band, and you are keeping at least a million other secrets? Loads. Of. Drama. Poor Mel, the smart and spirited heroine of Boy Band, has a lot on her plate in Backstage. I was able to read this book in advance, and it was an absolute treat. This YA novel, despite keeping a fun and light platform, has heart and humanity laced in every page.

I love the development of Mel's character in this novel. She was a relatable and likable character in the first book, but in Backstage she is brought to light in another different way. We struggle along with Mel in this novel, and throughout this whole book I really felt for her. Just like in Boy Band, I was cheering her on the whole way, and her inner dialogue and thoughts were written with wit and charm.

One thing that I love about this series is the smart dialogue. I can hear the voices of each character in my head (Josh is my favorite, just sayin') and the book reads like a conversation. I feel like the characters are my best friends, and I really feel for them throughout the conflicts in the book.

Just like a song from your favorite band (hopefully a boy band!), this book will bring you joy and fun. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did!

I read Backstage by the lovely Jacqueline E. Smith, and it had just the right amount of drama.

Things ended on one bad cliffhanger in the end of Boy Band, and although these books make me feel like I’m reading a One Direction fan fiction, I really do enjoy reading them.

I love the characters still, I love how the relationship between Mel and Sam developed, and I definitely recommend this series to anyone who needs a lovey dovey cliche light read, because this one fulfills that really well.

My Review:

First off I would like to thank the author, Jacqueline E. Smith for sending me a copy of Backstage to review. This in no way swayed my opinion of the book.

NO, NO, NOOOOOOO!

I don’t usually start off my reviews by talking about the ending of the book, but the ending literally has me so devasted that I just can’t….I can’t…just thinking about it has me about in tears. ( LOL )

I don’t like having spoilers in my reviews, & this review won’t have any, but the ending was sad & happy at the same time. I was glad for Sam & Mel, but then…..Ugh I can’t say! You must read for yourself!

Like I said in my review for Boy Band, these novels are SOOOO refreshing. I had such a fun time reading this book, like the last! I was laughing & of course, what you can see from the beginning of this review, having a total meltdown.

Let’s talk about the characters:

Melissa – I LOVE MEL! I loved Mel in Boy Band & I loved Mel in Backstage. She is such a loveable person! She is the type of girl I would love to be BFFs with, not only for her character, but she is also friends with The Kind of September ( AKA BAES ). Even though I disliked what she wasn’t telling everyone I still see why see did it.

Sam: Oh Sam….he is just irresistible! He is just all around a great guy. I almost started crying cute tears when he got matching tattoos with Mel. UGH! They are so adorable together!

Josh: I really love Josh’s outlook on life. He is always smiling & being positive. I think as readers we can take away the trait of being positive in hard times from Josh.

Jesse: I have mixed feelings about Jesse. One part of me is mad at him, but the other thinks part of it really isn’t his fault. I do think he was sincere in his apology though!

Oliver: Probabaly the sweetest, in my opinion, of all of them! Oliver’s characteristics are something I want in my future boyfriend. I feel so awful for him though & if you read the book you will see why.

Cory: Poor Cory! I feel so bad for him. I just REALLY wish he would forgive easily though, but I do see why he would be so mad. I don’t know, I just feel bad for him!

Joni: I can totally see why she is mad at Mel. If my friend did that I would be mad as well. I was shocked at her secret though. I really didn’t see that coming.

Tara: I don’t like this girl. Everything that is happening with The Kind of September is this girls fault. That’s really all I have to say about her without spoiling you.

All together I really enjoyed this book! It kept me interested all through the book & had me wanting more. If your looking for a fun, short read this is your book!:)

(This is the second book in the series, so there are bound to be spoilers from the first book. Duh.)

Melissa Parker briefly enjoyed the high of her new relationship with her best friend and member of the hottest boy band, Sam Morneau, before being knocked back down by discovering a scandalous affair involving other members of the group. Sworn to secrecy, Mel is now holding information back from her best friends, information that could rip the band apart. Lies and half-truths begin to pile up. More and more, secrets are invading the group and everyone wants Mel to keep her mouth shut.

I cannot fully express how much I love this book. I’ve been desperately (and somewhat patiently) waiting for Jackie to write this book and release it. This one is just as good (if not better) than the first book and well worth the wait.

Like I’ve said in a previous review of Jackie’s work, she has an amazing knack for breathing life into all her characters. They all have so many quirks and feel so real. This book lets us learn even more about all the guys in the group, The Kind of September, and their personalities all shined in it. I just love all the guys! Sam, of course, is my favorite member of the group (more on him a bit later.) Oliver and Josh are great too! Josh is the life of the party and I always laughed whenever he entered a scene. He would brighten anyone’s day. Oliver is so sweet and courteous. He’s dependable and so many times I wanted to give him a hug. Jesse tries so hard to be funny (and he’s just not). I really enjoyed seeing his growth in this book. Cory is, sadly, so blinded by his love for Terrible Tara. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention Joni. She’s so strong and blunt. I love the friendship she has with Mel and how protective she is of the group.

Now, onto the real stars of this novel: Sam and Mel. I love both of them so much! Their relationship is beautiful, breath-taking, sweet, and just so adorable. I might have fallen in love with Sam right along with Mel over the course of this book. He’s just so amazing to her. Ever since reading the first few lines of Boy Band, I’ve loved Mel and her personality. Her voice is so unique and her wit is spot on. I also loved that she didn’t enjoy keeping secrets from everyone. She knew if the truth came out, especially that she knew something and didn’t tell, it would blow up in everyone’s face. It’s so refreshing that she was realistic about it and didn’t delude herself into thinking keeping secrets was okay.

The song lyrics were stunning in this book and each time I read them, my mind started putting music behind them automatically. The tweets from fans always made me laugh. #TOKS #Meliver #JoshAndPizza I’m so glad they were included in the book, it really added an amazing dynamic and made it feel so real.

All throughout this book, I found myself hiding a smile or attempting not to burst out laughing. So many emotions played through me while reading this and kudos to Jackie for really making everything so palpable. The whole time, I felt a kinship to everyone and they felt like great friends I got to spend a few amazing hours hanging out with.

Drama, drama, drama. That’s all I can say about some of the later events in this book. Well, really the whole book is filled to the brim with drama. I’m so glad that the ending gave us a moment to breathe after the crazy, wild ride the book took us on. I really can’t wait till the next installment in the series.

What’s It About?

“I thought my romance with Sam was the hardest secret I’d ever have to keep.”

Backstage begins where Boy Band ended, with Mel being the unwilling recipient of a secret she would rather not know about. In addition to this, she is having a secret romance with Sam, that even the band isn’t aware of. Mel is keeping a lot of secrets!

Before ‘The Kind of September’ goes on their third world tour, they celebrate the holidays together in style. And then, scandal erupts…

Rumors about the band continue to trend on Twitter and one of the members is left betrayed and heartbroken. Will this be the end of TKOS?

My Thoughts

Sometimes I read a book and I like it so much that I jump into the character’s body. I live and breathe inside of them. Everything stops around me and I’m no longer myself. This book was like that for me. I enjoyed “being” Mel and living in her world. :)

I was eager to read this story after one heck of a cliffhanger at the end of Boy Band, (Book 1). It began with a Holiday movie night, which was perfect for this time of year. I love reading stories that are relevant to the season!

Something I forgot to mention in my previous book review was how funny this series is! It really does have a lot of humor. -For instance, for Holiday movie night, the band is wearing Christmas onesies! HILARIOUS! :)

I also loved the rumors on Twitter. The tweets made me laugh sooo hard. “#JoshAndPizza” had me rolling!!! I loved all the tweets and it’s kind of depressing to me to think that TKOS isn’t real and that these cuckoo “Septemberists” don’t really exist!

Mel turns 21 and gets a tattoo that represents my fave song by TKOS, “Snowlight”, so that was perfect. ❄

Overall, I love this series. It has a plot I enjoyed getting lost in and the action never stops! I would recommend this novel to fans of young adult/ new adult fiction, romance, and of course anyone who likes “boy bands”. :)

My typical problem with books centered around romances is that the author is promoting unhealthy behaviors (i.e., victim blaming/gaslighting/creepiness). Here, the problem is actually with the FRIENDSHIPS. These are not adult friendships. These are ... middle school friendships, truly.

There is a central thesis running through the text that your friends are entitled to information about your romantic relationships and that having healthy boundaries is inappropriate (the author calls them "secrets"). If you are single and want to date someone else who is also single, and you are both of appropriate legal age, then no one is entitled to that information. Furthermore, if you catch someone cheating, it is perfectly acceptable to keep that information to yourself - the responsibility for disclosure is on the cheater! They are the one doing something wrong. They put you in a terrible position. They are supposed to be the one to take responsibility for their own actions. The main character was continuously gaslit by her friends the whole book for wanting to have boundaries and keep information to herself.

Also, Joni is a hateful character who behaves hypocritically and never takes responsibility for treating people badly. I have no idea why the main character considers her a friend. She's not. Again, very bad modeling of healthy friendships.

In all, dreadfully boring as well - I found sections repetitive, skipped many pages to get to action. IDK. I also didn't like that the main character seemed so unambitious. I'm not interested in reading about a slacker who hangs around more successful people. No time for losers here.

This part was better, so much better than the first one. I loved this! The secrets, lies and all the spices adding up. It was amazing and enjoyable. It did keep me on my toes. I wanted to know how everything was going to be revealed. I really like the style of writing of this author! She is amazing!

“And you know, sometimes you just can’t cheer a person up. Sometimes, they just have to be miserable for a while and work through their heartache on their own terms.”

Sam and Melissa together were so cute. They were not over the top or boring. They were your typical best friends turned to lovers love story but with a lot of action surrounding them. I liked the details a lot and they did not bore me at all.

I just realized that there was a third book and I am excited to get my hands on it -soon I hope-

It turns out that what happens backstage doesn’t remain backstage after all.

Mel just turnend 21. She and Sam are doing something that you would never expect becouse he is a super star-they are dating. No one is supposed to know about that ,and some other intresting stuff that is happing with their life. The Kind of September is about to have its world tour on the road.

Before that happends some very -like I mean very intersting stuff is about to couse heartbreak, lies, secrets, undo freind ship, fist fights, word fights, and a lot others. The band might seme lilke it is fine and cousaul ,but once you get inside the bands mind, like were they practice, their love life ,and their feelings you can actually see that they are really breaking apart from each other. If you want to find out what happesnds next then you should read the book first. I would recommend this book to Aime s.,MC Guane, MS.Reicks, and to all of the Boy Band Book fans.

Love is a roller coaster.

True relationships are complicated. We are pulled one way and then another, sometimes at the same time.

That’s what Backstage is about: the balance of love, honor, integrity, and trust. The heart knows what it wants, but do you act on it? If you do, what happens to those around you? Is it for the common good? Is it only for your heart? When feelings are given free rein, there’s never an easy choice.

Suspense, love, and heartbreak: you’ll find all that here. With Mel, Sam, Joni, and the others in the band, it’s never going to be simple, but isn’t that what love is all about?

And now it’s time for the next one! A great read!

And the story continues…

Mel and Sam are as cute as ever. Jodi has her hands full managing the band and late-night meetings. Oliver is still in love with Jodi. Cory is still in love with Tara. The rest of the guys are loving that their album is doing great, and they are about to go out on tour.

Until everything takes a turn for the worst. Lies are revealed, relationships are ruined, and the band not make it out in one piece.

The drama and suspense of what will happen next will have you flipping pages as fast as you can.

The story ends on a cliffhanger and continues in book 3. I cannot wait to see how the band, fans, and friends handle the fame, rumors, and accusations that threaten to tear them apart.

The drama builds in this second book in the Boy Band series! And all of the secrets floating around Mel definitely keep her on her toes as she tries to simply enjoy her new relationship before the band takes off for their third world tour. But things are never that easy, especially for a world famous boy band and those closest to them!
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series and am quick to pick up the next one to find out how things unfold! I just love Smith!

I didn’t like this one quite as much as I liked the first book, but it is still getting 4 stars because it was a very enjoyable read. My main issue with this book, was that the story dragged a bit in the middle, which is something that often happens when you have one story split among multiple books. That being said, I love this author and I love this story and I am here until the end. Bring on the next installment!

Drama, drama, drama!

The second book in this series was like reading an issue of US Weekly! As a fan girl, all of the gossip that is spread about a celebrity you love, brings up all sorts of emotions. BACKSTAGE does a great job of encapsulating how not only fans, but the people involved in any sort of scandal would feel. Looking forward to reading WORLDWIDE and continuing the TKOS’s journey!

Backstage picked up where Boy Band left off, with Mel finding out about Tara cheating on Cory. I could really feel for Mel, trying to figure out what the right thing to do is. This book is a real page-turner and the end was just Whoa! Lots happened and I can't wait to read Worldwide, which I bought as I got close to the end of Backstage (I also bought Spotlight as well, so I don't have to wait to find out what happens).

Quick, fun, fiction ❤️

A quick read that could be considered YA but is it really?? Again the storyline kept me captivated and I looked forward to getting to sit and read any spare moments I could in my crazy ballet manager life.

MY GOD SO MUCH DRAMA! Uhhgg I’m here for it 😭
I did find the plot a little predictable but at the same time there were smaller plot points I did not see coming.

This takes me back to my 1D days of reading and writing copious amounts of fan fiction.

Even better than the first

I think I'm still swooning. Love the relationships, love the villain, love the banter. Exactly the fun series I needed right now.
