The most wonderful time of the year?

Katie Warham has just one wish this year…to have the best Christmas ever!

She didn’t think that any man could tempt her under the mistletoe this year, but Sam might just prove the exception! Darcie Boleyn

Darcie Boleyn has a huge heart and is a real softy. She never fails to cry at books and movies, whether the ending is happy or not. Darcie is in possession of an overactive imagination that often keeps her awake at night. Her childhood dream was to become a Jedi but she hasn’t yet found suitable transport to take her to a galaxy far, far away. She also has reservations about how she’d look in a gold bikini, as she rather enjoys red wine, cheese and loves anything with ginger or cherries in it – especially chocolate. Darcie fell in love in New York, got married in the snow, rescues uncoordinated greyhounds and can usually be found reading or typing away on her laptop.

I couldn’t write a review straight away after finishing this book because I couldn’t see through the tears (of joy). This is a really moving second chance romance with so many twists and turns you doubt it reaching a HEA after all until very near the end. It is a heartwarming tale of love lost, reconnected and new opportunities but with obstacles to overcome first.

Katie Warham is dreading Christmas with her family. They won’t all be there because she recently lost her beloved grandmother who she’d been very close to, she’s not sure how she’s going to cope with her diverse family, their mix of judgemental attitudes, crazy behaviour and reactions. When she finally arrives to find the man she’s never been able to forget, the one she judges all others against and finds them wanting, her ex-boyfriend, is also there - with his two children - she’s even more perplexed. He's now a widower and the attraction between them is at least as strong. Is there any chance of rekindling their love or are there just too many risks involved? Should they take a chance on love?

What a great story to curl up with, though you’ll probably not want to put it down till you’ve finished reading it. It is well written with a superb selection of complex characters with interactions which cover the full gamut of emotions. There are some hilarious, laugh out loud moments, others are heart wrenching. Throughout the emotive writing makes it so easy to empathise with the emotions of the characters, you feel there hurt, pain, turmoil and love. Even the children are brilliantly portrayed!

The plot has nothing straightforward in it - there are many past events and attitudes explained, surprises, shocks, discoveries and announcements to keep the reader turning the pages to find out what happens next. I’ll certainly be looking out for more by this author in future! This is a keeper, a great story that I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys a very moving romance.

Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too for provided an ARC for me to read in exchange for this, my honest review.

'Wish Upon a Christmas Cake' is Darcie Boleyn's debut and such a sweet, romance read. The cover is simply stunning, and I think the team from Carina UK had done an amazing job on the cover art.

'Wish Upon a Christmas Cake' is a story about old sweethearts, and I absolutely adore those kind of stories. Katie and Sam used to be together (for years actually), but after an unfortunate event shaken their lives, they parted amicably and moved on with their lives. Katie decided to focus on her work and never look back on her past, however seems she doesn't have much success in her love life. Her parents invite her and the rest of the family in a gorgeous manor to spend the Christmas together. As one of closest and oldest friends of her brother Carl, Sam is invited too and after years of not seeing each other, Katie and Sam are now in the same house spending the most beautiful and magical time of year together.

Many things have changed for both of them, both Sam and Katie tried to move on with their lives, however the sparks are still there and Katie just might get her Christmas wish come true.

This was such an adorable, and fast read. I really liked the story, though it did have a more serious tone at times. It was so enjoyable to see how things were gradually building and the romance didn't seemed rushed or forced. As most of the other light hearted Christmas stories, it was predictable but it didn't mean I enjoyed it less because of it. On the contrary, I was thrilled I'll get my dose of a big fat happily ever after and I sure got it.

Sam was an adorable character, he's gentle and kind and though he's been unfortunate first by losing Katie, then his wife, he's a dedicated father and an amazing friend. He appreciates the people in his life and does everything to make them happy. However, Katie was less likable, in my opinion. She's focused on her work and despite fully understanding what happened to her, I simply didn't approve of some of her choices. She seemed doubtful without a real reason, and I didn't understand why she needed so much time to realize some things. The romance was sweet yet dragged at times, and I wished things could move faster.

'Wish Upon a Christmas Cake' might not be that memorable Christmas book for me, but it was definitely an enjoyable one. Perfect for curling up by the fire on these cold November days. If you're a romance fan, or love your story with a bit of Christmas magic and sparkle, then this is a book you'll love to check out. Despite it being a debut, it's clear Ms Boleyn has a talent, and I'll definitely be on a watch out for her next release.

A warm, Christmas story of second chances, love, loss, and family.

Katie has thought of everything to avoid Christmas with her family. She could stay at home taking care of her cake shop, Crumbtious Cakes, and avoid family entirely. The Christmas spirit wins though and an unexpected visitor is there to meet her under the mistletoe. Her first love, and now widower, Sam is joining the family Christmas with his two children, two dogs, and a lot of unspoken feelings. Katie made a wish on a Christmas cake and she's about to find out if Christmas cake wishes really do work.

I really enjoyed Wish Upon A Christmas Cake, it's a wonderful debut by Darcie Boleyn. The characters are so well described I felt like I was watching it all happen in a movie; I was picturing moments from The Holiday the entire time. The minor characters, particularly Katie's brother Karl and his beau, Angelo, were my favorite. They brought life to scenes and the interactions of all the characters brought understanding to the overall emotion of the house. I really enjoyed reading about Katie and Sam's past and present, how their lives worked out after so long and where they were headed going forward. Both characters are dealing with grief, old and new, and their meeting again after so long really brings some feelings out. I teared up several times, laughed out loud quite a bit, and smiled even more.

If any of my followers are looking for a lighthearted read for the holidays, I highly suggest you pick this one up. Not only does it contain more depth than you'd think, it's got all the qualities of a romantic and beautiful white Christmas.

The title of Wish Upon a Christmas Cake by Darcie Boleyn is delicious, and the second chance romance woven into this story was just as delicious. I had no problem falling into this story that made me feel like it was already Christmas!

Darcie evokes a host of emotions through out Wish Upon a Christmas Cake as Katie very reluctantly goes home for Christmas. When she gets there, nothing is as expected and over a few days her life and her feelings change so much. For a long time, Katie has been all about her business. Trying to forget the past even if it makes her who she is today, she keeps busy. Katie doesn't believe she'll ever have her own happily ever after, so she's no longer looking. The last person she expects to see when she arrives for the family Christmas is an old boyfriend she's never forgotten - and his two children.

Family dynamics, memories and secrets are woven so well into this story. Katie and Sam get to know each other again and discover the chemistry between them is still there...but a lot has changed over the years and there is more than just the two of them to think about now. Katie's relationship with her family, especially her mother is a strong part of Wish Upon a Christmas Cake, and I liked how we learned about this...the past, the present and what the future might look like. Family secrets are revealed and I really liked how this was done and how the impact on the story was written, and how the characters handled it. I liked how the Christmas with her family that Katie was dreading turned into so much more than she anticipated, that Katie could start to heal from the past, and I really hoped that Katie would finally take the time for herself. There is a lot going on in Wish Upon a Christmas, just like in real life. Darcie writes smoothly and clearly and this multi dimensional plot made the characters feel real and the plot believable. I felt very involved and couldn't wait to see what this Christmas would mean for Katie.

Wish Upon a Christmas Cake was entertaining with heart ache and heart lifting moments. It was easy to feel connected to the characters in this story, and to feel like I was right there with them. I liked the grown up, mature feel these characters gave me and that made them even more real in my mind.

I completely enjoyed everything about Wish Upon a Christmas Cake and would recommend it to romantic women's fiction readers.

Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is very much a story of loss and true love with a sprinkling of Christmas thrown in for good measure.

Katie has never really got over her first love Sam, they have a lot of history together so when she turns up at a wonderful manor house which has been hired out especially for a family get together for Christmas with her family and Sam is there, lets just say she is faced with a whole load of emotions that come rushing to the surface.

Katie is a woman with her head screwed on, she has put all her time and effort into setting up a business with her good friend Anna and had started to give up ever finding a man to live happily ever after with, that is until of course Sam comes back into her life. She has a wonderful bond with her brother Karl and was also very close to her granny whose death she is still coming to terms with.

I loved reading about Sam's two children, Holly and Jack. They are such sweet and adorable children who really pulled on my heart strings.

Even though essentially this is a romance novel, to me it had a lot more of a deeper meaning and certainly is not your typical girl meets boy story. The author touches on a couple of things that sadly occur in real life which made it a lot more realistic and not your typical fairy tale.

Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is a lovely book and one I can highly recommend.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Carina UK for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a wonderful Christmassy read.

Katie is dreading going to spend Christmas with her family and when she turns up, her first love meets her there unexpectedly. He's now a widower with two young children.

The Christmas sounds so lovely with everyone pitching in to make it a wonderful time for the two little ones. You can feel the joy in the shopping and the skating trip and choosing a tree.

It totally wraps you up and makes you want to carry on reading. Lots of romantic interest and characters you just want to add to your friends list.

With many thanks to Carina UK and Net Galley for the chance to read this one.

Three stars: A holiday romance that starts off with holiday feels and cheer, but then it goes downhill.

Katie plops down on the sofa in her cozy bakeshop. It has been a long day, and she wants to relax, but she must prepare for her family Christmas, which she isn't looking forward to. This will be the first Christmas without her beloved Granny. Besides, Katie never enjoys the drama that incurs when she spends time with her mother. Still, her parents are moving to France, so this may be the last time they can all be together for the holidays for awhile. When Katie arrives, she is startled to find Sam, her ex boyfriend and the love of her life, there with his two children. Is it possible to reignite the flames from the past with a simple wish on a Christmas cake?

What I Liked:
*Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is a book that features a second chance romance, holiday cheer as well as working through difficulties in familial relationships. I liked that it had a realistic feel, and I especially enjoyed the holiday setting during the first portion of the book.
*The romance is a second chance romance. Katie and Sam started dating when Katie was only seventeen. Then a heartbreaking and emotional event caused Katie to pull away and leave Sam. Neither ever got over the other, though they tried. This is a romance that takes its time to reignite, especially considering the circumstances. I was a bit leery when I learned Sam's situation, but once he explains what really happened, I was onboard. I liked that it never felt rushed, and that both parties were extremely cautious. The romance felt very genuine and realistic, and I liked watching it slowly unfold.
*Even though the romance is the main focus of the book, there are other relationships that are explored. Katie has always had a prickly relationship with her mother. I liked the way Katie and her mother came to terms with the past, while setting down a new positive foundation for the future. There is also the relationship between Katie's brother, Karl, and his boyfriend, and how they are forced to keep it a secret because of Karl's career. Then add in the Sam's relationship with his kids, and Katie's best friend Ann's romance, and you have an interesting and eclectic batch of relationships to enjoy and explore.
*The beginning of the book is set in a cozy manor house in the English country side during the Christmas holiday. It has snow, Christmas trees, gingerbread cookies and plenty of holiday cheer. I loved the holiday setting during the first portion of the book.
*The ending draws to a nice close without any leftover issues or questions. This is a stand alone.
And The Not So Much:
*The first half of the book was charming as it was set during the holidays, and it featured two old friends and lovers reuniting. I enjoyed the sparks and the chemistry and the holiday theme. Then the second half the book returns everyone to the real world. The second half falls off the tracks a bit. It basically is all about Katie continuing to second guess her feelings to Sam. Lots of stumbles in the romance. I totally understood Katie's hesitation and her dilemma, but it got old to have her constantly rehashing her worries over and over. It took away from the feel good for me.
*I loved the way Katie's mom came clean about the past, and I was excited for the possibility for the future, I was hoping for a bit more though as far as the future, and I was a tiny bit disappointed that she continued with her plans for France.
*Katie has an up and coming bake shop. I was excited when I started the novel as I always enjoy books with a cozy bakery setting. Unfortunately, very little time is spent in the bakery, and the wonderful food descriptions that I love were not really there.

Wish Upon a Christmas Cake starts out strong with its lovely holiday setting and the igniting of a second chance romance, but unfortunately the second half flounders with too much second guessing as far as the romance goes. I did enjoy all the different types of relationships and how everything settled out, but the second half was flat in comparison to the first.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.

If your looking for your perfect festive read to curl up to on a Sunday afternoon then I cannot recommend this book enough - I loved it that much I finished it in one sitting, which is rare for me of late as I've been so busy.

Katie Warham is the main character in the book, she comes across as a kind yet sensitive soul, but one that is living her dream running her own cake business, Crumbsious, or so she thinks!

As Christmas approaches, Katie is dreading spending time with her family, particularly as her beloved Granny passed away only two short months ago. She's never felt that she has made her mother proud or lived up to her expectations, especially as her older brother Karl is the golden child with his celeb status, although it is clear he dotes on Katie.
To lighten the mood her best friend, flat mate and business partner Ann tells her to wish upon a piece of their famous Christmas cake, in which Katie does but isn't sure what will come of it.

Katie arrives at the very glamorous Hawthorne Manor in which her and her family are staying for the festive period, only to be fronted by an unexpected face of Christmas past... her ex and one only true love, Sam.

Katie and Sam have history, and appeared happy until events took a turn for the worst, I wont give out too many details as spoil it for you, but Katie pushed Sam away and it's clear as the story unfolds that Katie and Sam still have strong feelings for each other only each are nursing a broken heart with Katie facing her first Christmas minus her Granny and Sam facing the first one alone with his young children, Jack and Holly, since the death of his wife a year a go.

Whilst Wish Upon A Christmas Cake was a fast pace book, and was based from just prior to Christmas to early spring, it wasn't short of detail.
Darcie has a great way of telling a story with in depth details, building up a picture in your own head and making you feel as if you are part of that particular scene.
There were lots of ups and downs to the story as Katie and Sam battle their feelings, as Katie and her mother try to build bridges and they try to move on without Granny in their lives, but ultimately it was a love story based around Christmas and the epilogue which was based on the following Christmas wrapped the story up beautifully - I just loved Katie and Sam's stories.

Wish Upon A Christmas Cake had be smiling throughout, all of the characters had fabulous personalities and the bonds between Katie, Karl, Sam and his children were a joy to read.
The book made me scream and gasp at some of the scenes between Katie and Sam.... They are the type of characters you just know should be together yet find disruptions along the way.

If I had to sum this book up in one sentence it would be something like ~ It made me laugh, it made me cry but was wonderfully heartwarming, festive and romantic!

No question that is is awarded 5 flowers!

Wish upon a Christmas Cake is a beautiful and heart warming tale, that really tugged at my heart strings. There is a lot of emotion and feeling that has been poured into this book, and it is delightfully told.

Katie Warham runs a tearoom, Crumbitious and is sort of dreading the family Christmas she has agreed to attend. Her beloved Granny only died 2 months ago and the pain is still raw. So she makes a wish upon her Christmas Cake to have the best Christmas ever.

What she wasn't expecting was her ex-boyfriend, and first love Sam to be there, with his two children, Jack and Holly. And what she really hadn't fully realised was the Sam was widowed over Christmas just over a year ago.

It doesn't take long for everyone to see that there is still a connection between Katie and Sam, even if Katie is trying her hardest to ignore it, due to the reason that ultimately led to them splitting up all those years ago.

Also at this family Christmas is Katie's mother Esther, who Katie has always found in the past to be a bit critical and abrasive, her lovely father, her slightly famous brother Karl, with his new boyfriend, who is very sext, as well as Auntie Gina who is slightly mad.

With a gorgeous setting, in a large manor house, the stage is set for a memorable Christmas, and not in the ways that Katie had been expecting.

With both main characters trying to move on from their grief, as well as two young children, you can see why I often had a lump in my throat at some of the situations, for various reasons.

I found Wish upon a Christmas Cake to be a delightful debut novel from Darcie Boleyn. I really enjoyed the story, and the Christmas section although didn't really put me in the festive mood, was critical to the story, and well thought out, given the characters circumstances.

One thing is for certain, it is always wise to have a wish upon a Christmas cake, as you never know when wishes could come true.

I read somewhere once, that your grandparents held the frontline against death. When they were gone, it was up to your parents. When they were gone...

Wish Upon A Christmas Cake is a story of love, loss and second chances. The premise sounded really good, and the story is quite decent. But I felt the story was twice as long as it needed to be. Throughout the story, Katie is plagued with indecision. I can understand why, but it still got a bit tedious to read her thinking the same thoughts again and again and again. It may have been realistic, but it was not fun to read. I also really didn't like it when Karl (Katie's brother) warns her that she'll become an 'old spinster', as if that's something awful.

But you need to live, Baby Sister, before you turn around and find yourself an old spinster. Life won't wait for you."

On behalf of all the spinsters out there - young and old - let me just say that I find this incredibly offensive. Being a spinster is not something bad. We need to reclaim that word. (See: Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne.)

All in all, for a debut, it was not a bad book. But after that stunning cover, the synopsis and the great reviews, I was disappointed.

What a gorgeously delicious book this is! It just makes me wish I was reading it by a roaring fire, with snow outside on the ground and a plate full of mince pies beside me!
The lovely Katie runs her own tearoom with her friend Ann and has thrown herself into her business after a traumatic loss 9 years ago. She is invited to spend a family Christmas with her family, including her parents and her brother Karl, and also Sam who was her first love. Sam is a recent widower with 2 small children but there is definitely a spark when he meets Katie again. Is it possible that love could come around again for the second time?
I adored this book, I loved the strong Katie who was trying to hide her vulnerable nature alongside her grief for the loss of both her baby and more recently her granny. And Jack and Holly were absolutely as sweet as a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows! All set within that quintessential English Christmas that we all dream of spending, full of good food and drink, spent with those we love the most but remembering those no longer with us. This book perfectly balances those emotions and I found myself tearing up through the last few pages as the story came to its perfect conclusion.
I can highly recommend this as your guilty pleasure when you want a little break from the stresses of Christmas but the story also works as romance for anytime of the year. Loved it!

This is hands down one of the most heartwarming Christmas stories I've read. Both cover and title are cute and have the promise of a fun, romantic winter read. After just a few chapters however, it was quite clear that Wish Upon a Christmas Cake would be much more than just 'cute and fun'. It really got to me. It's emotional and passionate, heartwarming and hopeful with a bit of humour. The issues Darcie's characters have to deal with are tough and complicated, but she really succeeded in dealing with them in a believable way. Some wine and good food and a bit of a romantic atmosphere didn't just lead to a "happily ever after". Her characters worked through ups and downs and it made me fall in love with them even more.
Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is a must-read this holiday season, and Darcie Boleyn an author to watch!

I must say I absolutely adore this Christmassy book cover! My only wish I had the printed version of this novel because it would be displayed right at the top of my bookshelf but not only the book cover is gorgeous I also fell in love with Katie's Warham story! What a stunning debut by Darcie Boleyn.

When I requested this book (via NetGalley) I could not wait to
dive inside its pages and devour it in one go but then I spotted Jenny in Neverland planning to host a blog tour, and I jumped at the chance to be part of it. Yay!

So here is my take on Wish Upon a Christmas Cake.

The Blurb

Katie Warham, the co-owner of Crumbtious Cakes ( fantastic name!) has one wish this year... to have the best Christmas ever!
If she could only spend the festive season the way she wants to but instead she is preparing herself to be spending Christmas holiday with her judgmental mother, crazy Aunt Gina and loved-up celebrity brother Carl.
But Katie certainly did not expect to add her ex-boyfriend and now widower Sam and his two children into the merry mix as well. This Christmas Katie's wish may just come true!

The Characters

Katie is a funny, quirky and lovable leading lady. I instantly bonded with her character and was curious to find out more about her past, and the reason behind her split up with Sam, the ex-boyfriend. I didn't have to wait too long, and I truly felt for Katie and understood her hesitation to commit fully to any new relationship. That was the reason behind Katie's determination to have a successful and flourishing business, and she was so hard trying to forget about having her own family for the foreseeable future or maybe ever.

Sam, the hunk of this story, is a gorgeous, sweet and very desirable ex-boyfriend who has managed to acquire a family in the ten years after their split. There is an instant chemistry and rekindling of the
passion between Katie and Sam at the beginning of the book and sexual current keeps on building throughout the whole story. They both know they've always loved each other, but there is so much more at stake now than there was years ago. Katie is hesitant and worries that she is getting way to attached to Sam and his two beautiful children, Holly and Jack. Sam, in turn, feels he needs a deeper commitment from Katie because of the needs of this young children.

Katie and Sam have been trough lots of highs and lows during the last ten years, and they seem to be eagerly waiting for life to provide them with new opportunities, happiness and definitely hope. I was so hoping that they both realise that the time they had apart had changed them, made them stronger, and they can come back together with far more to offer.

I quickly discovered that the supporting characters in this story were highly likable, very well developed and complex protagonists bursting with love and care. I especially enjoyed the way Katie and her mother were trying to repair their daughter and mother relationship and despite some rather significant misunderstandings and a couple of secrets the Warham family were a very tight unit.

The Settings

The authors description of settings and festivities were so vivid and magical that it made it very difficult to put down. I loved the Crumbtious Cakes Cafe and the mouth-watering offerings Katie and her friend Ann were happily baking. The Christmas festivities were taking place in a gorgeous manor house that seem to ooze with charm and opulence.

My Roundup

Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is a story that glides in such seamless manner. It made me laugh and cry a lot ( especially at the end). It brilliantly highlighted the importance of a loving family and true friendships, and if this is Darcie Boleyn debut, then I truly can not wait for her next book.

Usually I like to read at least one Christmas or wintery book at this time of the year but this is my ninth Christmas based book so far! I don't know if it's been a bumper year for Christmas reads this year but I have read so many lovely Christmas stories. Wish Upon a Christmas Cake is another romantic, festive read. Katie has immersed herself in her business since breaking up with her cheating boyfriend, Harrison, earlier in the year. Her business is a cake shop with the wonderful name of Crumbtious Cakes and the cakes we read about in the first couple of chapters sound mouthwatering! Her business partner and friend Ann persuades her to make a wish upon her Christmas cake for a happier year ahead. When Katie arrives at the large Hawthorne Manor her family have hired for the Christmas period she is quite taken aback to discover that her first love (and ex-boyfriend) Sam has been invited too with his two young children, Jack and Holly.

I really loved the way the romance between Katie and Sam was rekindled. They hadn't split up because they didn't love each other any more but you'll need to read yourself to find out why. The old attraction is clearly still there for both of them but this year, and in particular this Christmas, both are in mourning. Sam's wife died the previous Christmas and Katie's much loved Granny also died during the year. Their shared history and confused emotions about whether they should acknowledge their feelings for each other was convincingly portrayed. They so obviously love each other still and are so right for each other but now there are children involved too and Katie's dedication to her business mean they both have other commitments to consider.

Along side the love story, there are plenty of other characters and things going on that will keep you wanting to read on. Katie's mother and father are about to emigrate to France and want this one big family Christmas together. Katie gets on so well with her dad but has always had a difficult relationship with her mother. Her adored big brother, Karl, is rather famous and this year has brought his boyfriend Angelo who is very insightful and not afraid to speak about things others in the family ignored. Her dotty Aunt Gina is a bit more in the background but provided a good few smiles heading off for some 'afternoon delight' with her latest man Tanberk.

There's plenty of snow, plenty of emotion, plenty cosy moments by the fire and a lot about second chances and true love which all help to make this a lovely festive read. Definitely another to add to your Christmas reading list.

Let me just admit right here that I am not the world's most festive person, but something about this book really warmed my heart for the festive season and I'm now wishing for a white Christmas.

I am always a little skeptical of a will they won't they romance novel, however something about the pairing of Katie and the delectable Sam truly captured me, to the point that in sections of the novel I had a full on crying moment, yes full tears rolling down the face, bit of mascara the whole works while truly wanting everything to work out for Katie.

Katie was a character after my own heart, she'd been hurt but had fought hard to move on from her past and she now had a flourishing cake shop with her best friend, sadly what was missing was someone to share it with who could really make her heart sing! In walks Sam, back into her life after years apart, but with two children in tow. Could anything ever truly be there again with two people who were clearly in love but went through so much heartache together?

Quite how Darcie managed to conjure up my Christmas wish in man form I have no idea, she's clearly the book boyfriend fairy god mother. Sam was tall, strong, gorgeous, with eyes to drown in and thrown in for good measure he was also funny, kind and a wonderful father to his delightful children Jack and Holly. What more could a woman want for Christmas? I will take one Sam this year please Darcie!

The supporting characters in this novel made the story a winner for me as I loved seeing Katie's relationship with her mother change throughout the story as well as how close she is to her brother Carl. There is no way you can read this novel without falling utterly in love with Holly and Jack, they are so well written, Jack's reserved and sensitive side after the loss of his mother made me want to wrap him in hugs.

A fantastic debut by Darcie, I can't wait to read more from her and this was definitely one to warm up the incoming winter nights!

If you want your own Sam this year, maybe you should make sure you wish upon a Christmas cake, I know I will.

Katie would almost rather skip Christmas this year… but she knows the reality of life and her family. So she’s heading for the gathering with a wish for a wonderful Christmas never thinking that her wish is truly about to be granted.

She expected to find the loving eccentric family she adored – she never expected to find Sam and his two kids as well. The man she had loved, the one that no one since has been able to live up to.. Sam. How was she supposed to survive this Christmas with the love of her life and two adorable children who already had another piece of her heart right here, so near and so far. But perhaps Christmas wishes can come true.

I do not have enough praise to heap upon Wish Upon A Christmas Cake. It’s a second chance at love, mixed up with a lovable, crazy family and Christmas all rolled up in one delightful story. No, I’m not going to give you more details for you need to experience this one all on your own. But you will find a heartwarming story, a family so much like our own, realities of life that cannot be changed and a love that deserves a second look as well as a happy ending at last.

If I had to pick five Christmas stories to give to friends and family this year – Wish Upon a Christmas Cake would definitely be in that bundle. I don’t think I can give a higher recommendation than that. Go on indulge yourself and get lost in a Christmas story that you’ll be re-reading next year and beyond.

*I received an e-ARC of Wish Upon A Christmas Cake from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

What a lovely, feel good, festive story this is. It is the perfect book to read while curled up on a winters day on the sofa.

I love this time of year because we get books coming out which are nice, simple stories with a lot of laughs, some tears, and no in your face adult scenes! This book is exactly that.

The story is a simple enough one of lost loves being reunited many years, and relationships, later. There are obvious complications, so it isn't as easy as simply meeting again. There are also family ties which make things even harder for those involved.

The characters are all well written. I loved the character of Karl, flamboyant elder brother. The kids are also really well written, their innocence is portrayed really well through the writing.

Katie is a hardworking young woman with her own business, but she can't seem to hold down a relationship. She has had her heart broken in the past for various reasons, and feels that she doesn't have any chance of finding someone who makes her happy. She has memories which come to the forefront every Christmas, and this year is even harder for not only her, but all of her family.

Sam is a hardworking guy who combines his job, working from home, with being a full time dad to his two young children. He has been burned in the past, and is concentrating on raising his children as best he can.

When these two meet again during a family Christmas celebration long forgotten feelings come back again, leading to some heartwarming scenes between them.

A story recommended for lovers of simple stories, with enough of a storyline to keep you reading.

I really enjoyed this book it was full of drama, friendship, romance and had me laughing from the first chapter right to the very end. But in some parts had me feeling a little teary but I found this all added to the story.

The characters where all relatable especially Katie who is the main character and I found I really connected with her the most and found she was like me in a lot of ways. She seemed very laid back but then she could worry a lot about what people think and how people see her, but I think that has a lot to do with her past but I wont go into to much detail with that as I would ruin the story for you.

There are a number of other characters with the story who play quite a significant part in Katie’s life. Whether that be the hunky ex boyfriend Sam, her opinionated mother Esther, loving dad, her peace and love Aunt Gina or even Stephanie and Sportucus along with a few other characters who all seem to back a huge impact on Katie’s life throughout the story.

I really enjoyed this book, it was really light hearted, Christmas read and found it really easy to get into and before I knew it it was over L

The chapters where of a good size and I loved the writing style that Darcie has as I found the story really flowed, didn’t lose any pace and really set the Christmassy warm feeling that I love.

I want to congratulate Darcie on her debut novel and thank her for producing and coming up with such a wonderful story.

So snuggle up with a hot chocolate, blanket and the fire on and a book that I highly recommend that you read to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Katie loved Sam, years previously she lost their baby & decided they weren’t meant to be together. She moved on to Harrison but he couldn’t compare & she finds herself single again.

It’s nearing Christmas & Katie is longing for a lovely peaceful festive season. She is due to spend the holidays with her parents, aunt, brother etc … while busy at work in her precious bakery business that she runs with her best friend she makes a wish upon the Christmas cake … but what will the outcome be?

This is a lovely book, warm & cosy covering loss, hope, turmoil, laughter, family & emotions all with a festive backdrop of snow & celebration.

Katie arrives at the holiday location to find Sam (the ex) has also been invited to spend time with her family .. he is recently widowed & has two cute as a button kids .. will the spark reignite or has too much happened for either of them to consider it .. beautifully written it encompasses a whole generation of family life from the absent much missed Granny through to sad memories of the baby. Katie soon realises that her parents are ‘human’ & learns to look forward as the truth is revealed.

A sweet sometimes tear-jerker of a book .. escape into a cosy corner & enjoy!

Thanks to the author, Netgalley, Carina UK & Jenny at Neverland for allowing me to read this in return for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a great story about loss and love and how when you least expect it, things can take a turn...for the better. The characters in this book are very dynamic and Sam's two children offered comic relief at moments when I was tearing up.

Overall, a great read for the Christmas season!

This is such a lovely festive read but you certainly don't have to wait for Christmas to be in the mood for this book. Grab yourself a cup of tea and a slice of cake, put the heating on and lose yourself in this book based on Katie's and Sam's world. If you like the warm feeling in your tummy of a romantic feel good factor book, then this one written by Darcie Boleyn should be up there on the top of your list. 5 shinning stars

Tender sweet love story but, fair warning, you might shed a few tears along the way. Katie and Sam's story tugs on the heartstrings but in a very good way!

Kick off the Christmas season with this lovely romance!

It took me so long to finish this, I don't know why. The story is nice though, about baking, family relationships, friendship, lost love and it's about the celebration of Christmas of course.

Well this has been a truly lovely read, which was well written and had been entertained from start to finish.

I loved getting to know all of the characters, there were quite a few of them, but not enough to lose track of who is who, it was just right and as most of the characters were from one family, it felt very close knit too.

I really liked the character of Katie, she’s clearly not had an easy time of it, but she hasn’t let that stop her when it came to her career, the wonderful sounding tearoom/business “ Crumbtious Cakes” that she co-owns with her best friend.

Sam, the other main character in the story was very likeable too, handsome too, going from his description and how Katie clearly went weak at the knees whenever in his presence. Sam is a widower with two adorable little children, Holly and Jack and also happens to be Katie’s ex-boyfriend. It was interesting getting to learn of their history/past relationship and seeing how the two of them interacted together after so many years.

It was a great story, always lots going on, not just with the main characters, but other characters too, lots of little back stories happening to, so never a dull moment in this story. Not to mention it’s set around Christmas time, so what’s not to love. Oh and there were a few funny moments throughout the story too.

The premise is interesting: a second chance romance, after a traumatic break up ten years ago, now that she's devoted to her business/career and he's a widower with two little children. However, I don't think the execution delivers.
First, I find there's an excess of inner thoughts, with the female protagonist reflecting on how she feels, reminiscing on the past, trying to predict what the future will be... It gets repetitive and in some cases it doesn't really contribute to the story. On the contrary, it slows down the book and, at some point, the reader (at least me) loses track of what was happening (where was she, who was she talking to, what were they talking about...)
Additionally, the characters are not well defined, as if the author couldn't decide how they're meant to behave, and some of their dialogues and behaviours are not very realistic. The female protagonist comes out as maudlin and not very mature...
The general feeling is that the writing is somewhat amateurish. The book would have likely benefited from some editing and trimming.

I really liked the premise of this story and I enjoyed most of the book. There were some parts that I felt were repetitive and I wanted to say out loud just take a shot and make a decision. Katie is a strong and independent woman but a tragedy in her past has really held her back and then there’s Sam who is a wonderful man and even though he has moved on he never forgot his past. I love Sam’s kids they are so adorable. I enjoyed reading about these two reconnecting I just wish there wasn’t so much indecision. I was so thankful when finally a happy ending was in sight, and I did love the ending.

Loved it !!

This is a great story, moving at times as well as funny in places.
It demonstrates how things can change for people when all can seem lost. I loved the character of Katie.
This certainly is a heart warming and festive romance which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This is well written as usual by Darcie.
A full 5/5 stars for me and I thoroughly recommend this book to existing Darcie followers and new ones.

Very much a chick-lit kind of Christmas romance. Pretty unsubstantial. I read it yesterday and when I saw the title I couldn't remember what it was about for a minute.
