The second book in the Mycroft Holmes Adventures series
Amelia Jones has turned Mycroft's world upside down but he's oddly satisfied. For a woman she's in control of her emotions and eager enough to learn that he finds enjoyment in teaching her, but she's not perfect and Mycroft isn't used to people making mistakes.
Spending time with the Holmes brothers came with a threat Amelia expected, but when the danger comes from her own line of work, she doesn't know where to turn. Can she keep Mycroft happy with her progress, while also keeping herself safe?
The second book in this series. I enjoyed the first book more, as it was faster paced and was littered with riddles that I enjoyed solving. Nonetheless, it was still a great read.
The second installment of this Holmesian-ish series takes up where part one (The Hundred Year Wait) left off. Amelia Jones, the fictional author and protagonist of the series, is congratulating herself on how her rather unusual relationship with Mycroft Holmes is progressing. It’s not exactly a normal relationship, shall we say. That much was established in the first book. It has distinct undertones of master and servant, and I suspect this is something that will develop in future books.
Book 2’s main focus is the stalker who is targetting Amelia, with the main conflict being how she attempts to uncover the stalker’s identity and how much she should lean on Mycroft to solve her problems for her. Does he owe her anything? It’s an interesting situation to put these two characters in, and it helps to push forward the development of their relationship.
Having now read 2 books in this series of short stories, I find it to be an interesting storytelling vehicle. It’s a series of connected, developing shorts, which kind of gives it the feel of the old serialised adventures in newspapers. One leads nicely into another, with each being a self contained adventure. Appropriate really for a Holmesian story. It’s fun. Give it a try.
Again, I loved the book. The build up to the action part of the book was amazing, it continued with the terrorist plot from the first one, but that was mainly a side story. The author managed to portray all the emotions and reactions of someone who was being stalked, I couldn't find a fault. Looking forward to reading the sequel when it comes out.
I enjoyed reading this book, the Holmes brother's are a little strange but I like them. Amelia has a stalker and it's up to the brothers to find out who it is. A lovely cozy mystery.
First Sherlock Holmes has been a favorite of mine since childhood. Many authors have tried to pick up the pace and style of the original and most did not achieve a good readable story. This series has so far and pushed Mycroft more into the story and added a new twist, a lady. Love the series.
Imagine, Sherlock and Mycroft actually being alive all those years, and still giving the bad guys a hard time. Though not exactly as Arthur C Doyle would have written the story, it is absolutely great. I can just imagine Mycroft shaking in rage over little quirks that upset him as he solves the great crimes of the day. Good Books.
Relationships continue to develop as Amelia deals with a stalker and Myron pursues the terrorists. Book 2 of 9 of what is turning into a guilty pleasure.
