Clan Grant #8

Highland Harmony: Avelina and Drew

Rate this book
Avelina Ramsay despairs that she will never fall in love. Though every lad she meets is entranced by her comeliness, shyness prevents her from speaking with them. Part of what silences her is the fear that beauty is all she has to offer. She longs for something more, for a deeper calling and sense of purpose, for a stronger connection with a lad. Desperate for help, Lina leaves home to stay with Jennie Cameron, her closest childhood friend. There, at the Cameron keep, Lina will meet the Highlander of her dreams and discover that her destiny is much richer than she ever could have dreamed. As soon as he encounters Avelina Ramsay, Drew Menzie feels an overwhelming need to protect her. Never before has he met a lass who is at once so comely, so kind, and so strong. For reasons he keeps to himself, Drew does not wish to settle down and take a wife, but he cannot deny that Lina calls to him like no other lass. So when a neighboring clan threatens her, he steps forward to act as her protector. Little does he know that protecting Lina will prove a complicated task, for she has newly discovered otherworldly abilities that both set her apart and make her a target. Lina and Drew have the potential for a blissful, harmonious future, but conflict is about to shake the Highlands—and Lina is fated to play a pivotal part in the outcome.

1.5 stars.

I am so greatful this is the last book of the series. There is so much I disliked abut this book I don't know where to begin.

First, I hated the hero Drew. He was a manwhore and even after meeting Avelina, he took a wench in the kitchen. This strikes out at my biggest pet peeves. Granted he didn't "cheat" but he still had feelings for her and did what he did. The lame ass excuse of.. well he did it because he wanted Avelina and couldn't have her cause she innocent just doesn't wash with me. I also hated the lame ass heroine (Avelina) for forgiving him because a man has needs. Please, spare me. She should have dropped him then and there. She was just as lame as the hero IMHO.

As for the writing, the dialogue is at times childish and immature, there are too many inconsistancies in the storyline than I care to detail, and the characters are flat and uninteresting, having no personality.

Another thing that was irritating, was the authors failure of creating a dislikable antagonist. I didn't hate him but felt sorry for him. In fact I was hoping the heroine would have married him instead of the hero. SHe prtrays him as abused by his parents, all his life. Ridiculed by his clan members for no reason. A man only seeking to gain the attention and love of his parents. Yet he is constantly getting punched in the face by the "hero" who is more of a piece of shit than the antagoinst.

I also tire of all the filler about the 200 clan childtren and the useless boring activites of the family life. How much can one read about a swimming in a loch?

The epilogue was better than in the last book, at least it was about the main characters.

The romance was meh close to non existant, and the one love scene was at the very end and also meh.

I will read only 1 more of her books which I already purchased, and if it sucks as much as these past few have, I will no longer purchase her books any more. I am done with LeVeque and Montclair is soon to be off my list of author as well.

Ugh....Why?.....What?.....*then some contorted confused face

Sorry I could not stand this book. I hate that I paid money for it and I hate to say that because I really like Keira Montclair as an author and I've found the Clan Grant series addictive thus far.

Things I didn't like;
Avelina had absolutely no backbone. I acknowledge that growing confident in herself was clearly supposed to be part of her character development, but it was too extreme. Drew is random and is also overly crippled by self-doubt.

I found a lot of the dangerous situations Avelina was put in overly contrived and up until this point in the series Montclair has done a good job bringing in new characters a couple books early so at least they have some dialogue and you get to know them. I don't feel like that was done here with either Avelina or Drew and I felt no connection to them.

The ending was rushed and all over the place only to have the picture perfect family scene attempt to tie a bow on it on the last page.

That's all the complaining I can do without spoilers so;

SPOILER ALERTS:

Ok so suddenly we're faire land!? I was so confused by the first scene with the sentient mouse directing the antagonist that I had to re-read the scene. Where did this come from? The most supernatural this series has ever gotten so far is a couple characters having visions of deceased relatives in a dream. This sudden departure really ruined this for me, just because in the context of what I've read so far it didn't make sense.

Ok and so now there is a magic sword, that isn't a sword because it can fit in her pocket, that controls the fate of the family and has the, oh so convenient, catch that the owner has to get married within a month of obtaining it; really?

I could go on, but that's probably enough for now. You can check out the rest of my review if you want on my blog; thanks!

I love Avelina and Drew. Both have obstacles and personal battles to overcome and I think in a way they both have their own journeys in this story but find a way to fall and love and support each other along the way. it was really sweet. This was my second series by this author and I've found that both times by the last book in the series, certain paranormal elements get added and I'm not sure I'm really a fan of that since it doesn't really come up anywhere else in the series.

Fantastic End

What a fantastic end to the Clan Grant series with Avelina Ramsay and Drew Menzie's story. There was not a slow moment in the entire story. A true testament to this fantastic author, Keira Montclair. She takes us on a complex journey within the Highlands. These two each have things that happened to them, which have made them into two flawed individuals. Angelina loses her speech when around men who are not within her family circle. Therefore, suffering consequences from someone who sees her weakness. Drew, drinks in excess and indulges with women to get away from what haunts him. Each flees to their best friends clan. Drew's best friend is Aaeden and Lina's is Jenny. Jenny and Aaedan are married. There are several twists and turns. There is suspense throughout, along with longing and passion. There is also a mystical element. It was well incorporated.

One of the things I loved in this last story of the series, is the author included all of the main characters from all 8 books including their children. It truly was phenomenal. It did not take away from the hero and the heroine.

For someone, such as myself, who has read all 8 stories it was truly delightful. I am happy to know the new series, which will be about the descendants of those from the Clan Grant Series, will start with Loki's story. I truly look forward to this new series.

Thank you to this great author. If I could rate this higher, I would do so without question.

This is a good Highlander romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.

I liked Avelina, and understood her fear of men, since she was a victim of attempted rape (twice!). It made sense for that kind of trauma to result in social anxiety and fear. But I did think that she took a lot of stupid chances with her safety -- like going to Lachlan's camp alone -- when she knew that he wanted to rape her and force her to marry him.

I mostly liked Drew, and thought his family's treatment of him was just awful -- but it bothered me that he was such a womanizing playboy at first. I get that it was his way of forgetting his painful past, but it still bothered me. He did get better after he fell for Avelina, though.

I was glad that Avelina and Drew found their HEA -- they were good together, and Avelina needed someone who understood her.

I did think that the stuff about Avelina's gift, and her interaction with the fairy queen was a little odd. None of the other books in this series have had a paranormal aspect, so it seemed strange to add that to the last book of the series. I don't have a problem with including the fae in a Highlander romance, since many Scots did believe in them -- it just seemed odd that it would ONLY be in the last book of the series.

I also liked most of the other characters, especially the children, who are so much fun. I'm looking forward to reading the spinoff Highland Clan series, about the next generation of Grants and Ramseys.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Avelina Ramsey worries that she'll never fall in love and marry. The local lads of her clan are enchanted by her beauty, but she always gets tongue-tied when they speak to her. When she's nearly assaulted at home, she heads to her closest friend, Jenny Cameron, for help. There she meets the man of her dreams, Drew Menzie. Avelina also begins to have strange dreams.
In a neighboring keep, a young lad is destined to be laird but can never win the favor of his parents. This causes an evil to grow inside him, and somehow, he is the first to discover a legendary sapphire sword. As a neighbor to the Camerons, he visits Aedan for some time away from his demanding parents. When he spots Avelina, he becomes obsessed with having her and attempts to assault her, but is stopped by Drew just in time.
Soon, Avelina is visited by the Fae Queen at night, who tells her that she has been chosen and the sapphire sword belongs to her. Another dream tells her that one of her nephews is in trouble and needs her, so she rushes to his side. Somehow, she can cure him and tells Jenny and her sister-in-law about the Fae Queen. Many legends in the Highlands have spoken of the Fea, so it isn't difficult for them to believe her. With the sword in her possession, Avelina must marry soon or bad things will happen to her clan. She chooses Drew, but he has a reason for wanting to remain a bachelor.
Years ago, Drew's parents lost all of their children except for Drew, and in a drastic and misguided effort to keep him safe, they did horrible things to him. When Drew finally accepts his feelings for Avelina, he has a long overdue talk with his parents and rushes to her side.
The evil man is searching for the sword and is determined to possess both it and Avelina. Drew saves her in time, and they are quickly married.
After about a year, Drew and Avelina return to Dre's home with their new baby girl to see his parents. It has taken him a while to forgive them and heal from his own trauma, but now they can all be together.

****AMAZING SERIES****

What a talented and imaginative author! Keira you rock!

If you love historical highland romance, this is the complete package. Wonderful creations of fiction. Romance, adventure, and intrigue awaits you. Even if this genre doesn't flick your brick, it is well worth the time spent reading it.

Scenes of intimacy are done with class and style. Yet they are still loving hot.

I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this series. Eight books and all fast reads because they are written well. And hard to put down.

EXCELLENT character development flows from one book right into the next.

The editing was terrific. Never hit one bump in all the books. One name was accidentally used in present day verbiage instead of the historical version. That is a grand slam in my world.

I am starting the next series about the all the wonderful kids created throughout this first series. Can't wait to start on Loki's book. It is the first in the next generation series..

Thank you KEIRA MONTCLAIR for all your hard work and putting yourself out there just to entertain us. You are courageous. Now off I go to find LUCKY LOKI.

The negative reviews on this book are so ridiculous and full of misinformation, don’t even listen to them. One reviewer is mad that the H had a fling after meeting h. Seriously? They only just met, they hadn’t even really spoken to each other yet! And! He didn’t go through with it anyways!
The one thing I do agree with is I wish the Lachlan would have his own love story, he deserved better. I’m not done with the book yet so I don’t know how it ends for him just yet...but I had to react to these ridiculous reviews. However it’s a bit close minded to think all antagonists are pure evil. I think the real evil the fairy queen refers to lay within his parents.

I found it refreshing to have a H that has a dark and scarred past...and he almost even seems to have a bit of ADD(constantly wandering, both physically and mentally). Which if so I approve of, because it shows that having that doesn’t make him any less of a man or functioning adult, and he is worthy of love.
I’m also glad that they didn’t have sex immediately in the book. The other reviewers seem to not like this book because it doesn’t fit their personal checklist.

Harmony.

Drew and Avelina. Drew is heir to the Menzie clan. His father is verbally abusive and Drew drinks to escape it. He stays away from home as much as he can. Avelina is beautiful and cant escape the eyes of men who want to take advantage of her so she leaves her home at clan Ramsay to stay with her friend Jennie at clan Cameron for a while. She is attacked again there and Drew comes to her rescue and vows to be her protector. There is an attraction between them. Avelina soon discovers she is a chosen one by the fae and has seer abilities. She is the holder of the sapphire sword and must marry within 2 months. Drew has sworn to never marry and yet they only have eyes for each other.

I'm looking forward to reading the series about thier children, Loki the most... If you have noted the chance to read this series start with book 1 you will not be able to put it down... Some of the books have triggers in them some of the triggers are small but some or extreme, so read with that warning... But remember there has to be "bad" in a book so it can be good in the "end"... Loki book 1 here i come...

The Clan Grant Series

I have read many books, it is a dedicated passion of mine and I must say that I couldn't put my kindle down as soon as one of these books were opened. To go on such an exciting journey with these characters brought me so much joy. I cried when they faced incomprehensible challenges, laughed when they shared in their victories. These characters were brought to life for me and I would recommend these books to anyone who has a live for reading! Now on to the Next series!

Fantastic Series

Well. "Clan Grant Series" has come to it's finale. But one still has hope that Keira will let us visit them and all of their extended families. I loved every one of of the novels and Highland Harmony was the cherry on the cake, so to speak. Angelina and Drew's story was one of feeling of worthlessness, feelings of just not good enough to be loved by someone. But they both learned that you can choose your own destiny and not let your future be set by others. You do have a choice and Drew and Angelina made their own fairy love story come to pass!

Highland Harmony by Keira Montclair
The Clan Grant Series Book Eight
Avelina Ramsay loved her nieces and nephews and they adored her. Yet, she wanted more. She wanted love like the rest of her siblings and the Grants had found. But she had become so shy around men that she couldn't even speak up if they were mean. It was time to get away and find herself. No place better than going to stay with her best friend, Jennie Grant Cameron.

Drew Menzie disliked being around his parents—between his dad's negative ways and his mother's clinging. He'd become someone he didn't care for much either. Drinking and carousing. And then he met Lina. Too bad he promised himself he'd never marry. Because if not for the that promise, a girl like her could change his mind.

Loved this story. It's the end of the Clan Grant Series so it was bittersweet. Seeing the last of the single siblings finding true love. This one also has a mystical aura to it.

Loved the Grant Series

Even if some of the books were not as great as others the whole series is grasping you cannot stop with one book you must follow the path of each member of the clan. I also loved that each story had a completely different plot made of strong characters, and sometimes the women were even stronger than the men. Really recommend the series, I will definitely read the childrens’ series. My favorite were Alex and Logan.

Clan Grant Ending

What an exceptional ending to this series. It not only combines all the characters from each previous book but expertly highlights Avelina and Drew individually. A wonderful mixture of highland history and mystical folklore. A must read series by an exceptional author.

A touch of magic

And this story was exciting because you just can't figure out where the characters going.
Angelina is determined not to be ignored and she isn't shy about demanding understanding.
Drew doesn't want a wife and is determined to not take one.
You will be enchanted the whole way through.

Love Ms. Montclair

Her books are always stunning. I love the strong family ties in all of her stories. Adding in the tiny bit of mystical just it that much more charm for me. Follow Drew and Lina's tale and fall more in love with the Grant's and Ramsay's. Highly recommend this series!

Confusing

I had to leave a review on this one. Why was it so stupid ?. I could not believe the turn of events that happen, why did the author make Lina so fickle? I only enjoyed part of this particular book, just plain confusing, it could have more enjoyable if not for all the twist and turns. I would not recommend this particular book to anyone.

This entire series is amazing

This book in the series surprised me. Up until now, most of the stories have been wonderful yet very realistic. This one however,Deals with the Fae and all of the other worldly type of things, like seeing the future and magical swords. I enjoyed reading this book very much.

Loved it! I read this through KU. Another solid book from Montclair. This book was a bit different in that there was an element of the supernatural above and beyond the usual destiny/fate stuff. It was fun. I also really liked seeing the whole clan (all extended relations) spend time together. For a lot of the book I really didn't like the [MMC], but by the end I was won over. 5 stars.

I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. It was my first book in the series but I wasn’t confused as I felt it could be a standalone. The whole fae aspect of it I could’ve done without, but it was a nice change from what I normally read and didn’t delve so much into the fae world that I was put off or confused. I really enjoyed it

Oh this book got me so mad I wanted to kill for all the events that Angelina went through. Then my mind relaxed and I kept reading so much was happening that I couldn't put the book down I had to read it in one go. So engrossed with the storyline I couldn't wait to read what happened in the next chapter. Great read gets the blood running red for vengeance.

Wonderful series

What a great series these have been. In this book I liked the help from other clans. I felt the fae was interesting in how it helped and I had never seen the fae in a book before that I can remember but I enjoyed it.
