Zombies.

The living dead, brought back from hell to feast upon the flesh of the living, inflicting their unholy curse to any who suffer even the slightest wound. They hunt you, kill you, and then devour your brain for sustenance. They are evil incarnate, here to terrorize your life.

Except that they aren’t. And they don’t.

It turns out that everything that we thought we knew about zombies, thanks to movies and books and television and such, wasn’t quite as faithful as they wanted us to think. I should know, I see and deal with them on a daily basis. It’s my job. I work for the Federal Office of Organizing Dining for Zombies, or F.O.O.D.Z. for short.

Oh, and my job sucks.

My name is Cassandra Cole. Welcome to my world.

Edible Complex is a stand-alone horror-comedy novel and should not be taken internally. Consult your doctor if you feel that Edible Complex may not be right for you. Known side-effects of Edible Complex are laughing, groaning, and occasionally shuffling around your house in a state of undeath. Edible Complex is suitable for ages teen and up.

Zombie apocalypse stories are a bit cliche these days but "Edible Complex" endeavors to be different - and succeeds. From its opening line of "So, the zombie apocalypse happened" all the way through the ending it tackles thing from a non-traditional standpoint. The zombies of the story aren't Romero's zombies, nor are they runners, or any other sort most of us are accustomed to...but they sure do like to eat.

The story winds along and introduces creepy villains and a highly original (and thought-provoking) rationale behind the dead's rising. It is a breezy read, quick and fun, and worth the time spent. The characters are believable and, the treatment of the zombies? I haven't rooted for a zombie (Curly) so hard since the days of Bub.

A good time that you will not regret.

It isn't everyday you see a zombie tale where the zombies are eating cabbage. In fact, I believe there's only one day I saw that. And it was when reading this book. The main character is also very interested in what shoes people are wearing. And her feelings. Well, let's just say Brett does a fantastic job with characterization on this one. His portrayal of a female lead was spot on. The particular things she noticed, were the exact things a woman would notice, that would usually slip by me, but I could totally see her noticing. This zombie tale brings comedy back to the genre, so if you were missing it from movies like "Shaun of the Dead" or the "Hot Fuzz" type of comedy. You've found it right here. Except with a female lead. This book is fantastic. It will make you want to tell all your friends. It will make you want boiled cabbage. It will make you want Corn Flakes for breakfast! FLAKES!!!
