My name is Cora Graham. I live in Northwest Arkansas with my wonderful husband and two awesome children, our sweet dog Carly and not so sweet cat Mr. Gru. I am a stay at home mother of two very energetic, very handsome (not that I'm biased or anything), imaginative, keep me on my toes every second of the day little boys. The thing I absolutely love to do most in life is spend time with my family.

I'm a pretty boring, quiet person in reality. I have an unhealthy (what the husband thinks) addiction to coffee. I need coffee in a don't talk to me until I've had my first sip kind of way. When I'm driving alone in my van (that I love) I happen to think I'm the best singer in the world and there is no song I can't sing. Don't laugh, you know you do it too. And to my husbands baffled amazement, I love love love martial arts movies. They're my guilty pleasure.

What no one knows about me (until now) is that I've always had these imaginary conversations flowing through my head, with these imaginary people, telling me their imaginary stories. Since having kids of my own, I've discovered a bravery I didn't know I had. I tell my boys to be brave in all things, there is nothing they can't do or become. Of course with kids, those dreams can change daily. It's their bravery and dreamful little minds of becoming a scientist, policeman, firefighter (I've even heard ninja) that gave me the inspiration to do what I've always done in my head. Tell stories.

My hope is that people will love reading my stories as much as I've come to love writing them.

“Every time I look at you, I think about kissing you.”

This was a YA contemporary romance featuring a dancer with a secret in her past.

I felt quite sorry for Lilly in this story, as she was obviously scarred by what had happened to her earlier in her life, and deathly afraid of the culprit to boot. She was really close to her twin brother though, which was good for her.

The storyline in this was a bit about the romance between Lilly and a new boy at school called Carter, and a little bit about why Lilly disliked her father so much. Carter was quite flirty with Lilly, but the romance was pretty slow building, although there was a little bit of a love triangle forming at one point.
I did feel that the pace was quite slow in this book, and it was maybe a bit overly descriptive in places, so I think it would probably flow a lot better if it were streamlined a bit, but otherwise it was an enjoyable story.

The ending to this was okay, and I was happy that we finally got to find out what was going on with Lilly and her father.

I thought this was a great and interesting story. The characters were very likeable and have been through hell in their lives. I'm a sucker for flawed characters. I can't stand when everything is perfect.
The main character, Lilly, was tough, but I also found her very endearing. I admired her love for dance and thought it was great that she instead of choosing drugs or alcohol to dull her pain she threw herself into dancing.
I also really enjoyed her relationship with her brother, although at times felt they seemed a little too close. I loved that he was protective of her though and the author did a great job of showing exactly why he was so protective. Carter was great. He was tough and had a checkered past, but I think that just added to his likeability.
The writing was very good and flowed easily. And you could really feel the characters pain. I also loved that there were two major twists in this book that I absolutely did not see coming! I love that! I usually can see them from a mile away and although I knew there was something up I did not know what it was until it was actually revealed in the story.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an uplifting story where the heroes come from a tough beginning.

Lilly and the other characters were okay, but I didn't love them. I did feel quite sorry for Lilly throughout this though, as she had quite a bit to deal with.

This was an okay read, but I did find the pacing to be a bit slow. Parts of the book were dragged out a bit too much, and it ended up making the book feel a bit bulky in places.
The storyline itself was alright though.

Overall, An okay read.

"I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review."

OK, so the only thing that didn't work for me with this book is that it has ended.
I loved the characters and the situations they were put in. The fact that they had to face their worst fears and come out better at the other end.
I am very angry because I have written an amazing review earlier but damn goodreads didn't save it, I am beyond enraged right now :@
If you look closely there might be smoke coming out of my nose and ears.
Anyway, I loved this book and everything it wanted to transmit. The dedication, the need to be better, to succeed.
In my opinion every girl should have a Carter or a Luke in their lives. The world would be an amazing place to live, Heaven on Earth.
I fell in love with Lilly and admired her spirit and determination, her logic and her thinking. I just wanted for Carter to come forward a little bit earlier in the book. He took his time that boy. But in the end everything turned out like I hoped it would. It was an amazing journey and I hope that Ms. Graham would consider writing a sequel. It really has its foundations made out perfectly.
Thank you again for this story and I will be watching for new releases.

***Minor spoilers***

I thought this book was an alright read. It wasn't fantastic to me, but it also wasn't bad. It takes a long time to get into, but once it starts getting interesting it doesn't stop.

This book is told by Lilly, a talented dancer who dreams of getting into The Elite Academy of Dance and to become a part of L'Elite, a troupe of dancers who dance professionally all over the world. She lives with her twin brother, Luke, since both of her parents are out of the picture. She meets her love interest, Carter, when she is dancing with her school dance team at a party. After she meets him, they begin to get closer but for some reason, Carter keeps pushing her away.

I enjoyed the characters in this book. They're all strong and lovable. However, I found it really annoying that everyone was always trying to coddle Lilly as if she couldn't stand up for herself. Yes, the girl has been through a lot, but sometimes Luke and Carter act more like bodyguards than friends. In my opinion, Lilly is a strong girl and can take care of herself more than the boys want to admit.

I found the story extremely slow and it dragged in a lot of places. Just as I was thinking that maybe something would happen, nothing would. It was also a bit predictable in places. I only really started getting into the book at around the 80% mark when the secrets started getting spilled and stuff started happening.

Overall, this was a pretty cute book and I enjoyed seeing Lilly's character overcome different things in her life. She started off the book strong but by the end she was even stronger. Her audition song for the Academy is called "Recovery" and that's exactly what this book is. I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy reading about a character who struggles to recover from their past, but eventually finds the strength to move forward. Plus, the romance doesn't hurt either.

Lilly and her overprotective brother Luke have had a tough time growing up and now only have each other to rely on. Lilly has a tough exterior but inside she is scared and hurting. Instead of losing control and becoming a wayward teenager, she throws all her energy and pain into dancing. Her dream is to get accepted to The Elite Academy of Dance and refuses to let anything get in the way of her dream. But then she meets Carter who steals her heart and she is made to question whether she can open up and trust.

I think the dancing was a fresh element to add to a YA contemporary. It's something different. I think you'll be able to appreciate that element even more if you're a dancer yourself or have an interest in dance. Some of the heavy descriptions of the dances were lost on me but only because of my lack of knowledge of contemporary dance and not through fault of the writing.

I also enjoyed the mysteries that were woven throughout the story. There are two plot twists to keep you on your toes. They aren't obvious but they also don't feel so far out there that you can't comprehend the why or how. They are both believable and very well written.

The character development throughout the book is very well done. The characters are memorable and well thought out with even the side characters being easy to remember. It was also nice to see a genuine friendship between Lilly and Andrea as there is a tendency to have some tension in a female-female friendship. Carter was intriguing and actually feels a bit older than a high-schooler but I liked his relationship with Lilly. He was caring and genuine and their chemistry comes across very well.

Overall I enjoyed the story and I think the author has a talent for bringing a mix of different characters to life.

"I wasn't one to believe in love or happily ever afters. But I did fall in love. I wanted the happily ever after. And this is my love story . . ."

I've now read two adorable books in a row. Oh, yes!

In the beginning of this book, I wasn't sure how much I was going to like it. But around twenty percent through it cranked up the awesome and things started to get intense and interesting.

I really liked the relationship between Luke and Lilly and how throughout most of it, this was the most real and stable relationship she had. I found it refreshing compared to the typical distant siblings in YA. I also adored her friendship with Andrea. I also loved everything having to do with dance. That aspect was amazing.

Her relationship with Carter had lots of bumps and bruises, and I liked most of them. Only thing I found a small problem with was when she blamed him for her father and his mother's actions. I've had friends who've gone through stuff like this, and I thought her reaction was a bit over the top for a girl who "doesn't like drama."

Other than that, this book was adorable, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a cute, light romantic read filled to the brim with cuteness.

Why you should read Pretty Dancer?
1)It made me cry. This is a good thing because I normally don't cry during books so the fact that I did means that it truly affected me emotionally.

2)Lilly. She's been through so much in her life and all she wants is to be able to go to Dance Academy of her dreams. She's determined, hard-working, and has a really hard time trusting people.

3)Andrea is sassy and the most epic best friend Lilly can have.

4)Carter. He's hot, ridiculously nice, and he cares so much.

5)Luke and Andrea. They're ridiculously epic and I love them. This gif pretty much describes them throughout A LOT of the story.

6)Pretty Dancer has left me with wanting to read more. I now seriously want a story from Andrea's perspective because I honestly really want to read her story.

First of all I would like the thank the author for sending me a copy of this book.

Overall I enjoyed this book. There were times where it got really good and I couldn't stop reading and then from time to time I would get frustrated. The main character Lilly has had a hard life and things have been tough and because of it she has a hard time trusting. The romance of the book would have been better if 75% of the book wasn't them clearly liking each other and being difficult about it. Luckily, everything in the end works out. She get's to finally move on from her past and be successful & accomplish her dreams. You can't ask for a better ending.

This is a contemporary romantic novel that many many people will enjoy. The writing is great and the story, despite being a romance, is actually quite unique. It is about love, about a heartbroken girl who’s pushed everyone away until meeting that one guy—as she put it. But it’s also about dance. I’ve read books about music, religion, workaholics, cancer, but never dance. I’m a huge fan of contemporary fiction so when I got the request I was ecstatic.

We have a very hard working girl who wants to make her dreams a reality, a very longshot kind of dream to get accepted into The Elite Academy of Dance. I like books like this, despite being forced to cheer for the protagonist, I found enjoyment in watching the problems play out, watching our protagonist go through her pretty adventurous love life and roller coaster career in dancing.

What I liked most about this book was its narration; first person, present tense. Not an easy narration to do but it’s absolutely amazing when it’s done right and Graham totally did it here.

I liked this book very much and I even reread some parts because the writing was great and the plot was intriguing but I do have a few complaints. I feel really nit-picky doing this but gosh…I have to.

My biggest complaint is actually the main character herself. Lilly.

She’s a beautiful auburn with a bangin’ body—due to hours of dance—she’s one of those hot girls who’s single because she’s ‘one of the guys’ which apparently makes her untouchable. I don’t mind that, really I don’t. Those kinds of characters are supposed to be the ‘unique’ ones. Because they’re not beautiful, blonde Barbies with godawful huge boobies and rich daddies, that means they’re not-your-typical-female-lead. But really, how many books are actually written about the beautiful blondes with an easy life?

Yeah. Not so unique after all.

Not that I have a problem with girls who aren’t girly, I myself am far from girly. What annoyed me with Lilly was that she had to go around announcing her awkward hotness, and her awesome friendship with every male on the face of the earth and how boyish she is because makeup sucks, and so do high heels, and everything pink and pretty and girly, and God did I mention how friggin boyish she is??? Like, I get it! You’re not a typical girl, you’re not a girly girl but you have a dream of making it big in the most stereotypically girlish career on the face of the earth…dancing. Because that’s not girly at all, right?

Please note, I am not at all bashing Graham’s writing or her story. I loved this book and will probably read it again just for the enjoyment. I loved hating Lilly because she’s just that annoying BUT I somehow wanted things to go her way. I hated everyone who hated her and loved all her snooty remarks and witty comebacks she bit back because its more fun to hear her thoughts than read her words. Lilly was cool on many levels, I just find it annoying when characters announce their flaws the way she does. It started to feel like she wasn’t girly but was maybe jealous of girly girls. I could be wrong but there was a lot of pinned up frustration in Lilly that I don’t think stemmed from her stressful dancing career.

My last and final note.

This is an awesome book, the writing is something that I really want to compliment. It s not every day you find a YA contemporary romance as believable and intriguing as this…BUT…I felt like the writing was a little mature for YA. Don’t get me wrong, there weren’t excessive curse words or gritty love scenes comparable to Fifty Shades. I’m talking about the actual writing itself. Graham should take her talents to the collegiate audience or older.

I actually did a double take when Lilly said she was in high school. She has such a mature voice and the flow of the book is so smooth I thought it centered on adults not teenagers. I mean Lilly’s narration is so adult-like, even the subject matter seemed mature. All this talk of love and heartbreak and wanting to focus on nothing but her career, that sounds like a struggling thirty-year-old twice divorced with a kid. I was surprised but it didn’t necessarily take away from the story. I just wish the characters had been older, there’s enough YA fiction out there. Give us twenty-somethings a good book to read.

If there is anyone who can catch a break in this new age fiction, its Graham for sure. I look forward to her future works. I’d like to read something from her written from a male’s perspective.
I would highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. Romantic readers will love this and YA fans will want to grab a copy right away. If you like strong female leads then this is the book for you.

I loved this book! This book was exceptional! I loved this book so much! Repetitive much?

description

Okay the dancing was not all like that, she mostly loved ballet but she did have some awesome moves atleast from what I deciphered!

I really did sympathise with Lilly, she really did lose so much so young and her brother, Luke was like the life line she was holding on to keep upright. Dancing....dancing was her escape, her coping mechanism and her dream to get in to the Elite, ones of the best dancing schools. Lilly's character is what I like to think of as the equilibrium - balanced. She was the perfect combination of going after what she wants whether that was her ambitions or in a relationship, she never held back. At the same time, she was funny, smart, understanding and lovable not to say she was perfect but she too just like everyone had imperfections. But it was her these strengths that made her stand out and such a lovable character!!!!

Carter....*swoons* OHMIGOD!!! He was such a hottie ;)

description

He reminds me so much of Ian Somerhalder, I just love the intensity of his eyes! Carter was one of those guys you would drool over and love instantly. From day one, he has this intense and electrifying connection with Lilly that could ignite sparks. Carter is very sweet, patient, understanding and supportive, did I mention he was a hottie?
I loved how the connection and the relationship with Lilly is developed and grown just like it would be in reality with two people getting to know one another not just rushed in to! There was however, slight mixed signals of wanting her, not wanting her which not only confused Lily but me as the reader too. Only as you get further in to the book do you realise and understand as to why he was behaving in such a manner

Like Luke, Carter also has a short fuse and is over protective of Lilly, but both do so with reason. Only difference is he subtle yet not subtle about it whereas Luke is in your face kind of guy. I admired both of these qualities! Loved Andrea, she was like the ice breaker and her commentary, you can't do anything but laugh at it and love her to bits for it!

+Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Cora!

Lately I've been reading a lot of contemporary YA with romance and (some) dance... hmm I've enjoyed them so far but I need a break, you feel me? Besides... I have exams *dies*

THE WORLD: Normal world. High School (aka hell for some people).

CHARACTERS: The main character is Lilly, girl who always stands up for herself, is a good dancer, has good grades, etc but has no boyfriend because a) she has never liked anyone and b) her twin brother Luke is super duper overprotective. Lilly's best friend and partner in crime is Andrea and she has so much sass! I liked her a lot. We also have the interesting male interest, Carter, who is supposedly the "bad" boy though now he's trying to redeem himself by being nice. The story is basically Lilly trying to get into The Elite Academy of Dance by preparing her solo while maintaining grades and figuring out her feelings for Carter. Plot-wise there is not much although there are a few "secrets" readers have to discover.

LOVE: Yup, there is love. Two couples and both cute. No triangles (thanks!) and no insta-love either.

PLUS: It's an okay book. It's entertaining so it serves the purpose. I also liked Andrea's character the best and Lilly's POV was also nice!

MINUS: It took forever for Lilly and Carter to get over their sh*tty mistakes and lifes seriously... they must have had serious trauma.

OVERALL: 3.5 stars. So yeah, it was okay, fine, but not one of those to wow (at least for me). Could be nice for some light reading in between expected books or so :)

—P.S. I Love That Book!

A wonderful lovely read.

Lilly and Luke (twins) have had a tough life but neither let the past take them down. Luke is the older twin and has taken on the job of protector of Lilly. Lilly's passion is to dance, dance, dance and all her troubles seem far away. She has a wonderful BFF that keeps her from becoming stuck in a rut and makes her have some fun. Both Lilly and Luke could have become just another set of damaged people using drugs, etc. to escape their past but they don't.

Lilly spies Carter at a party and there is an instant attraction for them but Carter is harboring secrets that keep him from totally commiting to Lilly. This leaves Lilly open to doubts, pain, and she starts dating another guy. I like how even through she doesn't fully understand what is going between her and Carter she tries not to let it get her down and keeps moving forward.

There is such chemistry brewing between these two. Carter treats her in such a sweet caring way, that it is easy to understand Lilly's confusion about where they stand. Will Carter's secrets stand in their way?

This was a really sweet romantic and lovely read. I really enjoyed the likeable characters and facinating storyline. I also loved the absolute neatness of the writing style and book layout......like the spaces betweet paragraphs and the ***** showing breaks in places or times. I hate when everything blends together and you need to go back and read it again to make sure you understand......and sometimes you don't it.
So looking forward to reading more by the wonderful author.

I received this book and a read to review basis, but this does not influence my rating.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story follow Lilly who has had a pretty hard life. She struggles to let people in and isn't much of a people person. Enter Carter. He's the sexy friend of her brother who sends Lilly's life through a tornado. With the support of her best friend Andrea and her twin brother Luke, she faces many challenges. The beginning was a little slow and there was too much description in place that I had to skim over. But all in all, Pretty Dancer is a great read that I recommend. I loved how Cora developed her characters into realistic people.Her passion for dancing is intriguing and her home situation makes her dancing better. Thank you for giving me a chance to read this book because I had to stay up to three in the morning because I couldn't put it down.

This was an amazing read. I thought the characters were great. The plot was great, but lacked in some areas that others. I thought the dance sequences were amazing as well. I thought the love between Carter and Lilly was great and developed over the book. I was shocked to find out that . Overall, really enjoy this book. Thank you Cora Graham for the opportunity and I can't wait to read more of your books in the future.

This was a great read.I really liked the plot that even with minor clichés the book had an unexpected reveal.
Lilly lives with her overprotective brother.Both of them share more than a sibling or twins bond, they have both been through more a lot which causes Lilly to push everyone out except her brother and best friend.
Then Carter enters her life her defences and wall seem to week for him and she lets him in, only to realise that he too has a lot of baggage and secrets and he never completely lets her in.the big reveal of all secrets caused a heartbreak for all the characters and helped us understand everyone.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found it very hard to rate PRETTY DANCER with an amount of stars. I loved the story; it sucked me in quickly and I found myself thinking about it a lot even when I wasn't reading it. It's my kind of story - some romance, some suspense, some friendship and family added in, nice character development throughout the book - and I have a thing for heroes (or heroines) with a passion, such as Lilly has for dancing. The dancing itself is described wonderfully, too; I have danced for quite a few years myself and I loved reading about it. It was written so lively that I could almost see it. In that respect, it's definitely worth four or five stars.

Actually, the main thing that bothered me was the amount of errors and typing mistakes. The writing style is wonderful, but those errors - such as someone going "week" in the knees, someone saying his "peace", and mixing up past and present tenses - distracted me a little. On top of that (it's not a huge deal, but I'm going to mention it because it's one of my pet peeves), there was the occasional mixing up of words such as "their", "there", and "they're"; or "your" and "you're":

"...if Luke catches you anywhere near me your dead..."

"There alike in so many ways it's creepy."

Maybe I'm nitpicking - and the story is definitely interesting and well-written enough to compensate for the errors - but the fact that I kept noticing those errors so often did make me reconsider my final rating. I eventually went with four stars because I caught myself still thinking about the story a few days later, meaning it certainly left an impression.

Back to the positive now, because there is a lot of good to be said about this story. It's one of those books that I could hardly put away (I was up quite late a few times because I wanted to know what would happen next) and the plot itself never caused me to lose interest. It's nicely paced and has that flow that I very much like in a book.

The characters are all interesting and well-developed. There were some twists in character that I did not see coming. Lilly is a believable main character - a girl who has been through a lot and is still trying to deal with it all. She's easy to relate to; she makes bad decisions and wrong assumptions and she has flaws, which makes her seem more real. I'm also glad the author made her and Luke eighteen years old - there are already too many sixteen-year-old book heroines running about acting way older than their age. Lilly and her friends behaved just as eighteen- and nineteen-year-old normally would.

Lilly's brother Luke is a kind, yet tough, and overprotective older brother. Their relationship is sweet and realistic; a brother and sister who have only had each other for a long time. Andrea is the perfect best friend - one of those friends anyone would wish for - and Carter, too, is a realistic and likable character, his actions understandable even though they sometimes frustrate the reader (and Lilly) to no end.

The fact that there are many things hinted at, but not revealed until later into the story, keeps up the suspense. There is a constant, slumbering anxiety about possible bad things happening and yet once they do happen, they take you by surprise, either because of the timing or because the bad thing happening was not at all what you expected to happen (at least, it was that way for me).

I am very glad that Cora Graham took me on the journey that is PRETTY DANCER. Language and grammar errors aside, this is a great book that I think deserves more reads; so if you happen to be in need of something to read, go and check out this book. As long as you have the slightest bit of hopeless romantic in you (or an awful lot of it, like myself), you won't regret it.

Review @ BookPoisoning

“Hey, pretty dancer. Think you could put on a private show for me ?”

First of all, I’m actually really surprised that I ended up liking this book. Okay, it sounds really bad when I put it like that. The thing is, I first got interested in this book because it was about a dancer. Dancing has always been super important to me, and I’m sort of currently looking for more books about dancers and dancing that doesn’t involve a former ballerina telling her story (not that it’s not interesting, it’s just that there’s so much more to dancing than ballet, and it’s driving me crazy not to find anything good !), but this book turned out to be more about a girl who happens to love dancing, falling in love and overcoming her demons. Anyone who knows me knows that love-stories aren’t really my cup of tea, so I have all the rights to be surprised by the outcome here.

I liked this book. The story managed to captivate me, I, surprisingly, actually liked all the characters, despite their many flaws (seriously Luke’s over-protectiveness got a bit old, and not cute at all, after a while), I think it was mostly well-paced, even if the ending was a bit too rushed, it felt like the author wanted to wrap-up as many sub-plots as possible, which actually doesn’t really leave any loose ends (that I can see, at least), so that’s another good point. The romance itself was exquisitely slow-burn, you have both characters desperately and so obviously pining for each other, you really feel like they earned their little happy ending.

The only downsides are the several typos throughout the book, it gets a bit annoying, and also, sometimes the narrative gets a bit repetitive, and there are a few clichés here and there, but it’s not actually that difficult to go past that and focus on the story. Obviously, since I‘ve succeeded.

I still consider that it’s not really a book for me, it was cute and all, but since I’m not the kind of reader to go for the romance, it sort of leaves me … not disappointed exactly, but not completely satisfied either, even if you can feel Lilly’s passion for dancing and her determination to make her dream become a reality. But it’s a very fluffy book, despite the very important angst, and it sort of has the same effect as a feel-good movie.

So, for those who are more into romance, this book is definitely for them. For me, I’ll settle for saying that this journey was an unexpected little success, which is not a small feat at all.

~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pretty Dancer" is told completely from Lily's point of view. As we get to know her, we see the doubt she has about her self worth, her talent and worthiness. The fear she has of people finding out her secrets cripple her emotionally. We glimpse into her soul and witness the heartbreak of loss and the dark pit of loneliness. Lily is so broken she does not believe in love or happy ever after. She fully expects life to slap her down again and again. She learns to put on a mask of strength, cover up her emotions and pours herself into her only love, her dancing. The attraction between her and Carter thoroughly confuses and distracts her. Her negative perspective about life, her lack of trust and the way she pushes others away severely hampers the growth of a relationship between the two. Coupled with Carter's big secret, his guilt and his own issues of the lack of self worth, the relationship struggles, seemingly without hope of surviving. Emotions run rampant throughout this transformation of Lily. Slowly, secrets are revealed and just when one feels the mental turmoil is over, a letter appears that suddenly puts all the pieces together and answers all the questions. The revelations bring tears to the characters as well as the reader. Amazing story....beautifully written to make it feel real.
A very emotional read that will not disappoint. Lily has been through so much in the last few years. Her and her twin brother were emancipated after they lost their mom and their father went to prison. Lily loves to dance and makes it her life. She wants to get into the prestigious Elite Academy of Dance. She knows how to defend herself because her brother taught her a few kickboxing moves. With everything that she has been through, she does not trust anyone besides her brother and her best friend. Carter is gorgeous and she's attracted to him at first sight from across the room. The way he introduces himself to her will make you laugh. He pursues her and doesn't give up. He tries pushing her away from getting to close time after time. What happen to their mom? Why is their father in prison? Why does she have trust issues? How did Carter introduce himself to Lily? Why does he want to keep her at arms link? Does she get her chance to get into Elite Academy of Dance?
Do not let the plain cover fool you this book was amazing and was an absolute roller coaster ride. A huge thank you to Cora Graham for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I knew from the first few chapters that me and Lilly were going to get along just fine. Not sociable, not trusting, people getting on her nerves yup sums me up perfectly as well. I would've loved to have hung out with Lilly and Andrea. Andrea played the best friend role to perfection and I loved her Texan quirkiness. Luke and Carter my oh my I would not want to have to choose between those two guys. They were both amazing and I fell in love with both of them from the start. I felt like all the characters in Pretty Dancer were just done to perfection and it was hard to fault them. Even the "satan's barbies" played their role in the story and played it well.
I was really looking forward to an emotional read for the weekend and Pretty Dancer certainly bought the emotions. My heart broke for Lilly time and time again. To live what she lived through and be hit with all the drama that comes at her throughout the book was just incredible. I loved her completely crazy moments and also any girl that uses a high heel as a weapon is definitely made of awesome in my opinion. The letter from Mitch just wow I don't want to go into too much detail cos you know spoilers and all that but just wow.
You may be asking yourself why the 4 star rating if I clearly loved the book and the characters so much. Well unfortunately I just felt that it was far too slow and wordsy at times. Things that could've been summarised in a paragraph or two would go on for a few pages. There were times where Lilly was just rambling and the rambling would go on for pages. When the book was at its greatest it was emotion filled and amazing but when we had the wordsy pages it dragged and I would start to lose focus.
This book was fantastic though and was the perfect weekend read. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for anything else that Cora Graham releases. Also at the time of publishing this review the book was only 98 cents so I urge you all to go pick it up while it's so cheap.
Life is hard enough when you’re a teenager. Anyone who has navigated the fun times and the not so fun times of high school rumors and gossip will relate to that. Pretty Dancer is about a brother and sister in high school who are trying to find their way while dealing with the difficult lot in life they have been handed. Emancipated from their hateful father, Lilly and her twin brother Luke only have each other to rely on. Their bond is unbreakable and unshakeable. Their characters are likeable and believable.
Lilly’s dream to break away from all the drama in her life is to have the opportunity to become a dancer at The Elite Academy of Dance. That goal is all that she desires…until she meets that one special guy in her life that actually makes her feel special. But a relationship with Carter is not what she was looking for, and after all Lilly has been through, can she even trust Carter? Can she dare to open her heart to let someone else in? You will want to know their secrets.
This is where good writing comes into play, and for a first-time author, Cora Graham manages to do this with perfection. The book flows easily. All the characters are well thought out and developed. You will either love them, or hate them, just as the author intended. You will feel what Lilly feels…her heartbreak, her determination, and her strong instincts for survival.
This book is targeted for teens and young adults but you don’t have to be in high school to enjoy it. The writing will pull you back to a time in your life that you never forget. Tumult, angst, happiness, first dates and first loves are all part of the journey.
I will admit that I did not see the ending coming. Keeping a secret like that was shocking.
Pretty Dancer is a very good read!
A pretty read
Oh I loved this book. I don't know what I was expecting exactly, but I can tell you it wasn't this raw and emotional read. Gosh it was so cute!!!
The writing was perfect. As of late, I've been having issues finding well written new books. I'm so glad I was given the chance to read this one because the writing was amazing. The author created a strong voice that made me feel. I cried when Lilly cried; I laughed when Lilly laughed; I loved as Lilly loved. I couldn't ask for anything more from this book.
The plot. Oh boy is this a killer storyline. I promise you that you will make it through without having your heart weeping. It's such an emotional rollar coaster. This is more than just a love story. This is about a girl finding herself again. Lilly needed to overcome a life changing event. This is the story of her acceptance and healing process. Utterly amazing! The romance was a perfect bonus coz let's be real here Carter is so swoon worthy.
The characters were so well developed. Lilly was a lovable and imperfect character. I liked her tongue and watching her grow into a stronger, better person. And her relationship with her brother was my favorite part of this book. These two are so close and the things they would do for each other are limitless. Totally sweet. They're two best friends were great too. Carter was a total sweetheart and Andrea is such a caring friend.
I recommend this book to everyone who loves a good emotional roller coaster and a story of one girls journey to happiness. Enjoy!!
Pretty dancer was ok. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't horrible. There were times in the book where I got really annoyed and that was because of Lilly. Other than that, the book was not bad.
Cora Graham did an excellent job on developing the characters. I just loved every single one of them. Even Sarah. Sometimes when I read books, authors really focus on the main characters and they forget all about the side characters. In Pretty Dancer, that didn't happen.
Lily was ok. Yes, she was annoying at times, but I did understand her. I can't expect the main character to be emotionless. It just made me upset how Lilly kept jumping into conclusions and getting jealous every time the guy that she liked talked to a girl. But, Lilly can be funny. I love her relationship with her brother Luke. Who's her over protective twin brother (and who's two minutes older than her). He take cares of her and he's not like most brothers who are embarrassed of their sister. Also, I love her Texas best friend Andrea. She was extremely amusing. In other words, she was hilarious. I liked Carter, he was sweet. He never gave up on Lilly and really cared about her.
The book flowed pretty well. It wasn't confusing. It didn't jump to one thing to something completely different. It was easy to predict though, but there was two plot twist that I did not expect. At all.
To sum up everything, the book was fine. It was funny, sad in some parts and happy. I would recommend Pretty Dancer for readers who enjoys reading books that will satisfy them at the end.
Pretty Dancer by Cora Graham is one perfect read for all. Her novel is is a contemporary romance. A realistic story of a brother and sister and their struggles. Every reader can easily relate to this novel and to each of the character's own issues. I love the sister and brother pack that is formed within this tale. I sense and visualize the scenes and their events as they happen. Cora Graham is a new author to watch out for! Her writing will forever lure you into her new world of fiction.
Pretty Dancer is a story that shows us readers what happened to Lily and her brother Luke. They finally manage to leave their awful father and then struggle with drama at school. But Lily has a plan and that involves going to an Academy for Dancing. However her plan did not include meeting a boy who will leave her wondering if she could trust him or not. And then Lily's brother Luke is a kind protective older brother that readers will love. Both he and Lily take care of each other. Then there's Carter the guy who frustrates Lily to no end and there's Andrea a good friend. Cora Graham has beautifully woven together a masterpiece that readers will continue to read and enjoy time and time again. I loved reading her debut novel and look forward to more by this new emerging author. Also, I highly recommend this read to everyone. Overall, I rate Pretty Dancer a five out of five stars.
Wow! Just wow! This book is amazing! Well written with a deep and emotional story, sexy and witty characters, a great plot and lots of twists, you won't be able to put it down! It shows us how a passion can help us survive the ugliness of life, but only love, even if only a little bit can change it all! I never wanted this book to end! This is what Carter and Lilly will do to you! You will be sucked in from the beginning and really feel part of the clan! Suitable for teens and onwards, this young adult story will just make your day! Sweet and emotional, you will feel Lilly and Carter's sexy chemistry with only kisses... Which shows the talent of the author!! You will become a puddle without any scenes being graphic! You will feel the emotions as if you were the characters. I just loved every minute of this book!!!! And i have to say i wouldn't mind a sequel or Luke and Andrea's detailed story as well!!! One more thing to say: Two Thumbs High In The Air!!!!!
"Hey, pretty dancer. Think you could put on a private show for me?"
Pretty Dancer by Cora Graham is an amazing contemporary romance.
It presents the story of Lily, a talented dancer who struggles with her past. Her character is perfect. She is witty, strong and passionate.
Lily lives with her twin brother, Luke, by themselves. Their mom passed away and their abusive dad is in prison. So now on their own, even before they’ve graduated, they rely on each other to survive.
She keeps all her sorrows and trauma inside of her until Carter arrives. He is hot, mysterious, uber-sweet with a danger vibe radiating off him. He confuses Lilly so much and yet it's clear he is so totally into her, then why does he push her away?
All in all, Cora Graham has beautifully woven together a masterpiece that readers will continue to read and enjoy time and time again. I loved reading her debut novel and look forward to more.
Life, ambition, faith, friendship and love story.
1st : the bond between the twins, that was impeccable bond and i really love how the brother will do anything to protect the sister and how they taking care of each other after all what happened in the past and after they know the truth about their life, they keep theirs just for their self and with slowly but sure, their lives is moving forward to the happiness
2nd : the friendship it was the kind of friendship that will last forever
3rd : the love story, every woman want a lover like Carter.
My comment are :
1. for me too much explanation about Lilly feelings but not from Luke feelings, i mean because they twins i thought will be great if we know about both feelings
2. finally Lilly made it into ELITE, but what about Luke, Andrea and Carter after their school? are they finally become what they wanted to? a sheriff, a vet and a child counselor?
but of all that i really like the story
xoxo
A compelling story, the sadness of two young kids on their own, the hint of mystery surrounding the events that created them to be emancipated so young, the sweet bond between a brother and sister, the true friendship bond with these two kids and the few people they let "in", and of course, the developing relationship between Lilly and Carter.
The author has the ability to describe, making me feel that I am right there, whether it be a dance scene, a party, a fight--a kiss. Wonderful.
I struggled with Lilly as she found her way, had to come to terms with her past, her future. Carter is the perfect boyfriend. Where can I find me one of those. ha ha
