Love at the Beach #2

His Temporary Fix

Rate this book
A one-night stand with a sexy soldier romance

I'm done with being there for broken men who only want me while they're in pain. Zack’s home from Afghanistan on compassionate leave, and he’s hurting. That should be my cue to head straight in the opposite direction, especially when he makes it clear our night together is only to take his mind off his sister’s funeral. But when this sexy soldier kisses me, I can’t think of anything else.

Falling in love would be a dumb idea, especially when he only sees me as a temporary fix.

The last thing I wanted was to come home to New Zealand.

The last thing I expected was to fall in love.

Includes bonus short story - The Right Present.

DNF / DID NOT FINISH

DNF @50%

Honestly if I had to rate this one it would be a 1 star only.
At first I thought, "okay, it's fast paced, pretty random and generic hook-up but it could be a nice quick and hot read for when you're in-between books."

Then the Godzilla cock made its apparition and it went from unrealistic to bad porn aesthetics...
“He filled me with a smooth glide, hitting every sweet spot on the way. Jesus. If he went any deeper he'd be hitting my ribs.”

But I had to call it quits when the characters took upon themselves to exorcize the heroine's bad memories about the location her parent died in a car crash a few years ago.
What more natural and heartfelt than getting head in your car—on the middle of the road— from a stranger you met 2 days ago, because it will create a "better memory" of the place your parents died?
“Did I give you a good new memory, Holly? Something to remember me by?”

Really?

I'm not even going to start to explain myself on how wrong this feels.
I'm pretty sure my mind is still trying to figure out HOW a guy with a dick the size big enough to bruise ribs when he fucks can walk on a daily basis. Did Calvin Klein have a kevlar armored boxers briefs available I wasn't aware of?

2.5 - "Time is precious." Stars.

The synopsis of His Temporary Fix, promises one thing and then approximately half-way through then diverts off in a completely different direction.

I was expecting a sex-fest at the beach where our Hero and Heroine end up with more than One-and-Done feelings for each other, and then all of a sudden Holly and Zack are turned into New Zealand's answer to Sherlock & Watson. This story is novella length and to be honest the amount of plot points the author tried to cram into it left it all a bit up in the air.

Holly is back in New Zealand to care for her brother, she meets Zack on the beach, they have sex, a relationship develops. That was enough for me,

It almost felt like I got half of one book and then half of another. It was well written, I would certainly think about reading more from the author in the future, I just didn't need so much crammed into a novella, a lot of which didn't really add anything to it.

"you make me want more... You make me want everything."

His Temporary Fix is a standalone novel by new-to-me author Sofia Grey. I can tell you right off, that the book cover is what attracted me to the book. Usually that’s what I see first, and then I read the synopsis. Sometimes, however, I don’t read the synopsis at all. That was the case with this book. It is told primarily from a third person point of view between the main characters, it has an HEA and there is no cliffhanger.

If I had one complaint about this book at all, it’s that it’s extremely short. The plot and content within it are very well done, but I would have liked to see more. For the length of the book it’s also not rushed, so that was another plus for me. It may be shorter, but you do feel as if you’re getting the full story.

The connection between the main characters was well established, but I had the problem of actually feeling it between them. I was reading it, it was translating, but I wasn’t feeling it. To be completely fair here, it may have been me that day, and not the book. You do know the attraction is there!

Also because of the books length, you do focus on the main characters more, and less on the supporting ones. Even in that case though, they still felt fleshed out. You know who they are, and I think the author did a great job on that front, as well as with making the plot work.

My biggest complaint here, if you can call it that, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I wanted more book. Other then that, I give it a solid three star rating. I liked the plot, I liked the story line, I liked the characters!

This was a short and sexy novella. Holly is staying with her brother at the beach while he recovers from a car accident. Zack is on leave from the military to attend a funeral. They meet and have instant chemistry which leads to sexy times. I did enjoy this story. Zack and Holly were hot together. There was a little drama and mystery but I did have a hard time connecting to these characters, maybe because of the length of the story, the fast pace or how much was packed into this short story.

THIS BOOK IS A NOVELLA!!

Holly Jacobs is home to help care for her younger brother after he was in a car accident. Zack Winter, staying in a rental property a few houses down from Holly, is on temporary leave to attend his baby sister's funeral. They meet and feel an instant kinship over the lose of loved ones (Holly lost her parents when she was young). Between burying Zach's sister and finding out new details about her death, Zach and Holly's connection grows in their short time together.

I've read novella's that have the feel of a full-length novel. This book isn't one of them. I felt rushed through the story and relationship. And because of that, I didn't really get invested in these characters. I definitely would of really enjoyed this as a full length novel.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

His Temporary Fix by Sophia Grey was a well-written romance novella but felt very rushed. I have read novellas that felt like a complete book but this book left me wishing the author edited some parts and kept the focus on the couple and didn't detract from the storyline when Holly and Zack met. When Holly and Zack met on the beach, they are both temporarily in town for different reasons. Holly is there to help her brother while he recuperates from a car accident and Zack is a military soldier, who is in town to attend his baby sister's funeral. Needing to erase the pain and guilt for not being there for his sister, Zack leans on Holly and finds comfort in her. Soon, these two strangers form a connection. But what happens when their agreement for only two nights isn't enough?

While I liked the premise of the story, I just wished the author didn't include unnecessary characters into the storyline and rushed the ending. Overall, it was an okay book.

Zack Winters has taken leave from the military to return home to bury his sister. He retreats to the beach to try and calm his mind and try to deal the pain of his excruciating loss. He can't seem to find anything to take his mind off his sister, and he is in great need of of a good distraction. When he meets beautiful girl walking her brother's dogs on the beach, he makes a pass at her in hopes that one night with her will take away some of the pain or at least subside it for a while. After one kiss he's left wondering if one night is going to be enough...

When Holly Jacobs meets a handsome soldier on the beach in need of a friend and a little consoling she offers her shoulder, and in return he offers her a night of passion. As much as she wants to resist his charms, one kiss and she is immediately lost, and left wondering if her heart can handle only one night with him...

This was my introduction to author Sofia Grey, and I have to say it left a good first impression. One sentence in and these characters drew me into their world, and had me hanging on every word. Their touching story captured my heart, and had me feeling the pain of their loss. It was a moving story of loss, hope, and love, and I highly recommend you give it a chance. I truly enjoyed it, and I think you will too!!

What a great emotionally packed sexy intense little novella! Holly and Zack bonded over deep loss and I could totally feel their pain. He looked to her for comfort and she has such a big caring heart that she could not help but let him in. The two of them were so spicy together, yet so in tune with each other outside the bedroom. They truly helped the other during dark moments. This novella was beautifully written from start to finish with a little twist in it. I truly wish it was a little bit longer so I could enjoy their HEA a little more.

This was a very enjoyable quick read. Although short, it's very well written with great character development and a story with several twists. Zack and Holly are great together and seem to come into each others lives at exactly the right time. He's dealing with the death of his sister and is looking for a distraction. A night with Holly would surely do the trick. Problem is Holly tends to give her heart away too easily. Can she risk one night with him??

I definitely recommend this one.

I am a Sofia Grey fan – both of her Snowdonia Wolves series and her Talisman series – as well as the few contemporary romances of hers I have read. I much prefer the Paranormal to the contemporary but Sofia is one of the (very) few that I will look to if I am in the mood for something different.

I know that when Sofia writes her books come from a place of love and creativity but I also believe they come from her heart with a truth in them no one can deny. Whether that is intentional is something you will have to ask her but for me, I don’t want to know. Personally I enjoy being able to relate to her characters in such real (and sometimes painful) ways and her books have helped me. I believe there is a part of Holly in everyone in the same way that pieces of Zach exist in all of us. We have all made bad decisions in relationships and have learned to live with the regrets. We have all had to walk away from people and relationships due to changes in our own lives often beyond our control. We have chosen avoid someone we loved because of our own feelings towards the people they chose to have in their lives. And we have all dealt with the guilt of not being there for someone; even though we may not have been able to because of work or we simply were never told there was a problem, the feeling of letting that someone down persists.

As an author, Sofia has a very rare ability to infuse deep and real emotion into every word and gesture of her characters. I have found that even her short stories or novella’s, just as with her full length books, are so complex and intense that reading them is like spending time with friends. You have such an emotional reaction to these characters that they instantly become part of your reality. Which is why I am delighted to recommend this book, future books of this series and really anything that she writes.

This short read had all the feels of a full length novel for me. I really enjoyed reading this story and fell in love with the characters immediately. Sofia Grey did an awesome job fitting so much emotion into a short story!!

Holly is taking care of her brother after he has been in a car accident. She is just getting off of a broken hearted relationship and swears that she is not going to be that gullible again. When Holly literally runs into Zack one night in the shadow's, she knows immediately that there is something special about him. Holly can tell that Zack is dealing with some serious grief so she sets down and talks to him. Holly thinks that she will be able to relate to him because she lost her parents at an early age. When holly finds out that Zack is mourning the death of his sister and that her funeral is the next day, she is drawn to Zack even more and feels bad for being so attracted to him. The sparks begin to fly immediately. Although Holly does not give in at first, her self resistance does not last long.

Zack is a soldier that is home on emergency leave to bury his sister that died from an accident he has been told. When things don't add up for Zack, he sets out on a mission to find out what really happened to his sister. He has tons of guilt for not being there for his sister. He wishes that he had done more.

Do Zack and Holly get through his grief and find a way to make a relationship in all of this? This is such a great short story that you need to read it for yourself. Is there a possibility of a HEA for these two in the midst of all this grief?

Thanks Sofia Grey for a great read and I can't wait for more from you for us. This was such a well written story and it flowed really well. I read it in one sitting!

This is a relatively short story with great characters and an intriguing plot. It explores grief, loss and new relationships but also includes many detailed sexual activity descriptions so I would suggest should be for adults who appreciate such materials only.

Holly Jacobs has returned home to look after her brother who was injured in a car crash on the same road where both their parents were killed in a similar accident. She's out walking his two dogs in the beach when the dogs knock over a man, Zack Winter, who had been stood in the gentle waves. He is obviously distracted and their conversation reveals he is on leave from the armed services to attend the funeral of his sister who had apparently fallen down the steps in the home she shared with her boyfriend. He welcomes the distraction Holly provides and the attraction between them is mutually instantaneous but should she give in to her desires and open herself up to heartbreak again?

This is a novella telling how Zack feels guilty for not being there to protect his sister. When revelations make him question how his sister died, Holly helps him investigate further and eventually the truth is revealed. This is not a story that anyone who dislikes reading stories filled with detailed sexual action. The story itself explores reactions to grief and guilt together with the search for truth and romance but, for me, the constant sexual escapades actually detracted from the otherwise well written, enthralling storyline - but others may well thoroughly enjoy reading about them, it'd wouldn't be good if everyone liked exactly the same types of writing, would it!?!

Thanks to the Author, publisher and NetGalley, took , for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Three and a half stars

I enjoy Sofia's stories, and she writes a very busy novella, keeping the reader on their toes, this one was no exception.
Zack and Holly meet by accident, and there is that instant attraction, but not one that jumps out and grabs you, this is subtle. Although our couple are only together for a couple of days, there is a lot happens to keep us entertained. Along with a romance starting up, we get a bit of a twist, in the death of Zack's sister, with our couple becoming detectives of sorts.

As is usually the way with Sofia's stories, there is sweet romance, but this time we get the added bonus of a bit of mystery as well, and of course a happy ever after. There is also, the standard New Zealand connection, with the story being set there, with characters either based or moved to New Zealand from overseas.

I did feel with this story that Ms Grey had opened up a bit more in her descriptions of the sex between the couple than in previous books. Might be just me.

Thanks to Entangled Publishing through Net Galley for supplying this book.

I was fortunate enough to be asked to re-read this story again before it's re-release. I actually think I enjoyed it more the second time around! Ms Grey's books are so enjoyable, and she writes about your average everyday people, who are anything but boring!

Grab a copy of this and others by Sofia, and enjoy a real honest down to earth read!

Zack Winters is an officer of the military, who has come home to bury his dead sister. He tries to lose himself in memories and self-reflection instead of dealing with the pain of losing his sibling. Nothing seems to work until he meets a beautiful stranger walking two dogs on the beach. He hopes that a hot night with her could get rid of the pain inside him. After the first kiss, he doesn't know if he will ever get enough.

Holly Jacobs wasn't looking for a fling with a soldier when she came home to look after her brother. She soon realizes that a night of passion might be exactly what she needs. The only problem, one night might not be enough to quench her need.

Even though this is a short novella read, I felt very connected to the characters as well as their storyline and emotions. I felt such pain and sorrow for Zack having to deal with what he does. I was so happy that Holly was able to distract him, even if it was only for a short while during the nights.

This was my first read from Sofia Grey and after reading His Temporary Fix, it definitely won't be the last book I read from this author. This story stole my heart and left me wanting even more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

This is my first time reading anything by Sofia Grey and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Zach is on leave from the military for his sisters bury ,and decides he needs to clear his head and goes to the beach, Zack need to take his mind off his sister, but how could he preoccupation his mind. But then he meets Holly while she's walking her brothers dogs and instantly he makes a pass at her, in hopes of a one night stand with her would kill the pain of his sister. But just after one kiss he knew it wasn't enough .Holly knew something was bothering him and she offered him her shoulder ,but he offered her one night of steamy passion , she tried to resist him but his charm was to much for her ,and any ways after that kiss she was instantly lost. But her first though was could she deal with just one night with him. Ms Sofia Grey has put in some amazing emotions in this story that grabs you and holds you from start to finish . The characters deal with loss ,hope , love, caring which is all wrapped up in this story . I could go on and tell you more about this great story ,but that would spoil the story for you .I highly recommend that you read this book ,you won't be disappointed .

When I picked up His Temporary Fix, I was looking for a quick, sexy book that'll keep me company before I jumped into a more intense book. Well, it was quick and it was sexy... What I wasn't expecting was for it to be such an emotional roller coaster that broke my heart. Oh, my god. I absolutely loved every moment of this short novella. In fact, I wish it was longer because I did not want to leave Zack and Holly without knowing that they will be okay and that their future together is bright. I wanted to gather them up in my arms and give them a soothing hug. I was disappointed that the story is only in Holly's perspective. I would have loved Zack's as well. I wanted to know what was going on in his heart and in his head as he got to know Holly in the short amount of time they were together. His Temporary Fix was a magnificent healing romance that'll warm your heart. I have my fingers crossed that Sofia Grey will release an epilogue or a bonus scene that'll revisit them at the end of the book. Those of you that have read the story will know what I'm talking about. Overall, a marvelous novella.

There was sex, and then there was Zack.

This sexy novella length romance complete with a happy for now ending packs a punch with all sorts of emotional feels as Zack and Holly meet on the beach in the small town where he's arrived for his sister's funeral. Holly knows about grief, having suffered the loss of her parents at a young age, and consoling Zack is no hardship, as they connect on an intimate level. The sex scenes are steamy and intense, with the knowledge that this is a very short term fling before he heads back to Afghanistan, having been given leave to attend the funeral. There is a mystery surrounding Zack's sister's death though, and some suspense added to the story as the plot thickens (so to speak). I really enjoyed this one, the romance between Zack and Holly on the fast track due to the circumstances, but with a very satisfactory ending. It's a quick read, but engrossing and a definite page turner. 4 stars.

The twist and turns and the obvious chemistry between the characters were amazing!

I loved reading about Holly's internal struggle when she tried to change her personality, but her old habits kept coming back. Wounded men were her weakness and it made her an easy prey. However, there was something about Zack that tugged at her heart.

I also loved how Zack wasn't the scary type of soldier. He was human and it didn't sound like he had been completely broken by the army just yet... except that he was broken over something else. Holly was the perfect distraction and I definitely loved the public encounters they had ;)

They were very aware of each other's feelings and they were also very open. I enjoyed witnessing the honesty between them.

Besides the romance of this story, I really appreciated that I couldn't predict what would happen next. I was pleasantly surprised that the author was able to inject mystery in such a short novella. I think if you were looking for well-developed characters in a novella, this book would be the one to read.

Holly is home taking care of her brother that had been in a car accident when she meets Zach while walking her brother's dogs on the beach. Zach is a soldier on leave so he can be at his sister's funeral. Neither is ready for anything serious. Holly is drawn to Zach the first time she sees him. The sadness in his eyes convinces her to go back to his place with him not for sex as she tells him but she just doesn't want to leave him just then. Zach wants to lose himself in Holly and as much as he wants that he knows it can't happen because she's not the temporary... she's a keeper. Within a few days of meeting each other neither would believe how much would change for them. Each found a place in the others heart in a short span of time. This was an amazing love story. It felt like the story was actually longer than is was due to how well written it was. I love the characters and the story and would definitely recommend this to all my book friends or anyone else that loves a great romance.

This book is so full of heartfelt emotion! There’s something so enticing about a broken hero, and in this book, Zack is a wonderful leading man. He’s sexy as can be and knows his way around the bedroom with Holly, but more than that he’s struggling to keep it together after losing his little sister. Holly is a little broken herself, and together these two strangers are able to find solace and comfort in each other’s arms. For such a short novella, the author does a spectacular job at developing character. Never once did I question the motivations of Holly and Zack, or their obvious feelings for one another. The book has so much emotion and pain packed into such a short story, and it was easy to root for these two strangers to fall in love.

The romance is steamy and passionate, and there is obvious chemistry between the main characters. If you like your romance with a little more emotion and heart, you’re going to love Holly and Zack!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley/Entangled Publishing for an honest review. "His Temporary Fix" by Sofia Grey is the second book in the "Love at the Beach" series. This is Zack and Holly's story.

Zach is on leave from the military for his sister's funeral. Holly took a temporary leave from work to come and care for her brother that was in a bad car wreck. Holly and Zach meet and there is instant chemistry between them.

For a short read there was a lot packed into this story. Holly worried that she would miss out on a promotion at work since she was away to care for her brother. Zach was dealing with his sister's death and family issues. Zach is only on leave for a short time. The chemistry between Zach and Holly was very intense for two people that just met. The reader had no problem feeling the emotions of the main characters. I did enjoy the story but it felt rushed. FYI, contains mature content.

This was a decent, 3.75 star read.
This book is about Zack and Holly, who meet while Zack is home for his sister's funeral. I believe this is more of a novella and could have used more story and character development, like, I would have loved for the story of the two of them to develop further, and it was just all...almost too fast, but, what was there was written very well. Zack and Holly fall fast and hard for each other, and on the side is the sadness of his sister's passing and the reality behind how it happened.

This was a sweet but sad story of a solider coming for a funeral of a loved one. Zac is lost and sad and doesn't know how to stop thinking about his sister. He is beating himself up with grief. He needs something to take his mind of things for a while. Zac meets Holly a sweet pretty woman on the beach walking her brothers dogs. She is just the distraction he needs. But is Holly willing to be his distraction while he's on leave? Take a chance on this fast paced read and fall in love with Zac and Holly.

I was totally surprised once I dove into this book, the description gave little away and there is a lot more to the story. The connection for Holly and Zach is a slow build but solid and true. Holly is home to help her brother who hurts himself and when Zach and Holly run by to drop groceries off, Zach's world is turned upside down. What he learns totally throws him for a loop. The story had just enough drama and love story with hot scenes to keep me going for more. Just wish the book was just a tad longer, honest review in exchange for ARC.

This was a short novella. Holly is staying with her brother at the beach temporarily. Zack is on a short leave from the military to attend a funeral. They meet and chemistry is great. Zack needs to forget and he thinks that a one night stand would be great. This was a well written romance that featured a strong heroine and a grieving soldier. I wish the story was a little longer. I felt it was too much information for a novella.

His Temporary Fix was an OK read.

While the storyline was good and Zack and Holly shared some very steamy sexy times together I found the story was a little rushed. Maybe if it was a full length book the author would have had time to develop her characters and give her readers time to form a deeper connection with them thus making it a more satisfying read.

I do love reading novella's for a quick fix, a quick pick-me-up, in between long novels. When they can pack emotion, connection with the characters, a great plot and storyline into less than 120 pages, well, that leaves me very satisfied and wanting to read more by the author. His Temporary Fix gave me all that and then some.
