RAMS Analyses Guide

Rate this book
From the start of a project it is essential that the examination and evaluation of the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) parameters are considered as design parameters and given equal importance. The purpose of these evaluations is to ensure, before production commences, that the design (which includes both hardware and software) does not contain features, that could be detrimental or cause unreliable or hazardous equipment operation.

As system complexity increases, reliability, maintainability and safety become more difficult to define and achieve as a design parameter, more difficult to demonstrate in development, and control in production and thus more difficult to assure as an operational characteristic under the projected conditions of use.

These difficulties can never be eliminated completely, they can however, be minimized by the exercise of very deliberate and positive reliability, maintainability and safety engineering methods throughout the evolutionary life cycle of the system or equipment.
