You met Ryder Richardson in Being Sawyer Knight. Now, this is his story.

I’ve done it. I’ve stuck a whopping two fingers up at my parents, I’ve made a name for myself as one of the world’s biggest porn stars and I’ve finally found a family I belong in.

Life is amazing. I get paid to do all my favourite things. Fuck. Party. Travel the world. What’s not to love?

And then he comes along. Mason George – Back Door Studio’s newest exclusive model and the guy who has the potential to either fuck it all up, or take me on the best ride of my life.

~ Ryder

I’m desperate. I’ve got nothing and nobody left. Entering the daunting world of adult entertainment is less of a dream and more of a necessity. Signing as Back Door Studio’s latest model has the ability to either ruin or make me, but I made a vow at my first audition never to let myself regret it.

I continue to question myself each day, but no amount of whats, whys or what ifs will change where I am or where I’m heading. Am I strong enough to do this? To embrace it? To enjoy it? I have no idea.

The only thing I’m certain of, is that if anyone can teach me who I’m supposed to be, it’s Ryder Richardson.

~ Mason

After meeting Ryder in first book 3 (yeah I know, don't judge) and then book 1, I was very curious about his story. He seemed like a really "put together" and happy guy in the other books.....but boy was I wrong ....

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor I was wrong gif

Book 1 was all about hiding who you really are and coming out and standing up for yourself and I thought this book would be the same kind of story, but it really wasn't. Ryder's story is a much more emotional one. For those who have triggers, there is self- harm, rape, substance abuse and a reference to suicide in this book.

In this book nobody is hiding their sexuallity, they are actaully showing it off. Which is quite different from the first book. Ryker is a model, and a porn star. He has landed a big contract for "Back Door Studios" not so long ago. Ever since, his career is on the up and up and Ryder is as happy as can be. What's not to like about his life, he get's to have lots of awesome sex that he gets paid for and he has made some great new friends.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor life is great gif

Things are going pretty well... sure his past pops into his head every now and then, but he pushes it away and continues to be his "happy go lucky" self.

That is until he meets Mason....

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor uh oh gif

Mason is at the end of his rope....he needs a job, because he needs the money and what better way to make some fast cash than being a porn star....so he interviews for a job at "Back Door Studio's".

After acing his interview and doing a short scene with Ryder, he is hired and his future is looking brighter. It seems he has even made a new friend in Ryder, who also offers to let him stay at his house...until he can find a place of his own.

Slowly these two become friends and  they spend some very intimate time together.....

Things change between them afterward though.....and not for the better.

Feelings are rising between them and especially Ryder is having a very hard time controlling his emotions, when his past comes crashing back....

I enjoyed this one a bit more than book 1 because it wasn't as heavy on the insta-love. It was a bit heavier on the angst though and it did have some OTT moments if you ask me. There were a few things that were just a bit much in my opinion.

Now I am not a big fan of books about the porn industry. That's because I have a hard time seperating love and sex in my mind and I don't like my characters having sex with someone else while have feelings for another person. This one wasn't so bad though.... I could actually understand and I didn't feel any rage, when they were doing a scene.

This was a very enjoyable read for me, though again.... book 3 is still my favorite and Matt the Twat is still MY MAN !!! :P

My adoration for this story sort of snuck up on me, surprisingly, because I am not (and doubt I will ever be) a fan of the “porn star” trope in my romance books. I often can’t wrap my head around the mind-frame of many characters in these stories; the view here, that sex and love can easily be disassociated from one another, was well discussed and ultimately acceptable for me as an idealistic reader.

Everybody’s mind works differently. Some people need their partners to commit to them completely, body and soul, whereas others are content knowing who’s coming home to who each night.

This perspective may not apply to me personally (I’m definitely of the “commit completely, body and soul” persuasion), but I really respected the way this whole issue was discussed in detail, at different points throughout this story, by various characters who came down on different sides of the conversation. It helped me accept the actions of the characters; actions which I have, in other stories, adamantly despised.

But this was more than just a story about two porn-stars falling in love. Hell, if that was all this was, I may not have even finished it. Luckily, the story was engaging and the characters were emotionally complex. Both main characters were dealing with a shit-ton of emotional baggage. There were some seriously intense personal trauma situations being dealt with here, including mental, emotional and physical issues, many of which may act as an emotional trigger for some readers. . So if you’re looking for fluffy porn goodness, this probably isn’t the story you’re after.

That being said, the emotional depth in this book and the way it was all handled, made me fall for this story and its characters, hard. I can’t say I relate in any way to the emotional turmoil Ryder was going through (lucky me), but it was handled in a way that had me right there with him, crying right alongside him (on several occasions). The second half of this story was a tough read for me. This may not be the case for everyone, as we all react to and handle this sort of angst differently, but I can safely say I was moved.

I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as its flufftastic predecessor, Being Sawyer Knight, but that was probably more to do with the porn-star aspect than anything else (because, to be fair, this was the better, richer story of the two). I can honestly say though, that this was the best handled porn story I’ve read to date. (And now I feel like I’ve written the word “porn” way too many times for one review, and possibly alluded to the false idea that I have much experience reading books with this theme – eh).

I shall now be immediately purchasing book #3 (The Making of Matt), because I feel like maybe I’ve been flying through this series so quickly simply because I’ve been dying to get to “Matt the Twats” book since roughly page 10 of book #1 – it’s going to be epic!

I received this book as a beta read in return for my honest opinion.

Ryder Richardson is a porn star!! He likes to fuck, drink, party and have fun with the best of them. So when Mason George shows up for an interview with the porn company Ryder works for, he didn't think anything about it. Once Ryder found out Mason has to money or a place to live, he immediately tells him he has a spare room in his apartment that Mason can use until he gets back on his feet. So when Ryder helps Mason by showing him what it's like to "bottom" on film, he doesn't understand why he feels a connection between the two of them. Ryder immediately starts using his coping mechanisms by drinking and fucking!! At this point in the book tensions between the two of them are so thick you could cut it with a knife! And of course, Mason doesn't understand what he could have done to piss Ryder off so bad that he is avoiding him. Once Mason confesses he wants to have a relationship, Ryder refuses and says because of his past there can be no future with him. Does Ryder eventually let Mason in even though he has never told a single soul about his demons. Or, does he keep them bottled up and push Mason away even further??

This was definitely a great 2nd book to the series!! I was drawn to Ryder's character in the first book, so I was anxious to see what this book had in store for us. Like the first one, this one does not disappoint. If you love M/M books, then you have to one click it!!

** JEN'S 4 STAR REVIEW **

This book is certainly not what I was expecting when I first read the synopsis. We met Ryder in the first book and I knew that he had a past that wasn’t greatest but to actually hear his story through his eyes was really emotional on many levels.

This story is about two men that come from two very different walks of life that get into the porn industry for different reasons. Life hasn’t been easy for either one of them. They both live with the pain and loneliness from their pasts but after a long and emotional road find solace and love with one another.

Ryder is such a broken man. On the outside he’s this cocky, strong, happy go lucky guy that just exudes confidence but on the inside he is battling so many demons. My heart went out to him so much throughout this book. You could really feel his desperation and his pain.

I gotta say I just fell in love with Mason. He really is such a standup guy. No matter what is being thrown at him he deals with everything with such grace. When Ryder tries to push him away because he can’t handle anyone seeing the ugly that is inside him, Mason doesn’t ever give up. He sees the real Ryder and he wants nothing more than to get to know him better, be there for him and love him.

Ryder and Mason’s journey isn’t always easy to read. I was angry at times and saddened. I honestly had a hard time wrapping my head around some of the hate that came into play. I wanted to jump into my kindle and protect Ryder. He deserved so much more then what he got. I’m just so glad there was someone like Mason there to help him pick up the pieces.

What I hadn’t expected was how much the porn industry would come into play throughout this story. I rather enjoyed seeing things from a different perspective. It wasn’t just focused on sex or what happened when the cameras were rolling. There was a real story behind all of it. Nicole really did a great job showcasing this budding relationship with porn mixed in. I really liked how she showed us how all these people came together like a family to support one another.

I really loved that we got to see some of the characters from the first book. Sawyer and Jake are still going strong and throughout the book they play a very important roll. We get to know Matt a lot more in this one and I cannot wait for his story. I’m really excited for it. It’s going to be one hell of a ride. Elle is as fabulous as always and big things are happening there too. I really can’t wait to see where all these characters end up as the series goes on

Another Fabulous Story!

Taming Ryder really had it all. I loved Ryder from Being Sawyer Knight, the first book in this amazing series and I was so happy he was getting his own story. Ryder lived his life in the fast lane ~ maybe too fast. Partying it up every single night can only numb Ryder from the pain of his past for so long. And make no mistake, it was pretty bad. He's such a great guy with so much to offer ~ well sought out in the porn vid business, talented hair stylist full of confidence, sass and charm ~ but that couldn't be further from the truth. Ryder is so broken inside. While helping Ivan, his boss and father figure, with interviews and auditions, Ryder was so taken back with Mason, the last candidate of the whole bunch. New to LA, Mason has nothing. No where to live and barely any money left to his name. Ryder offered for Mason to stay with him in his apt. I really fell madly in love with Mason. He devoted so much time and effort to try and fix what was going on in Ryder's head. The closer Mason and he became, the further Ryder pulled himself away from not only Mason, but Matt, Sawyer and Jake with only a mild connection to Elle, his best friend. The events that have taken place, past and present, to Ryder are heart wrenching. To enforce just how bad things had gotten, Nikola tapped into Ryder's psyche so we could see and feel his pain every time he intentionally cut himself. When he did, I could have fallen to my knees and cried.

This story was a whirlwind of emotions that swirled around in my own head throughout the course of this book. It was full of sexy, sweet, mischievous, heart wrenching, unforgiving, angry, mysterious, compassionate and stubborn headed guys. In some parts, Matt was hysterical in his own dumb ass way! Other times, Ivan was compassionate and understanding as a boss to all his boys. Then there were the parts where Ryder despised himself and felt so undeserving of Mason's love or anyone's for that matter. As the book neared the end, it felt as if their happily ever after wasn't going to happen as things went from bad to worse. All I'll say is, thank god for Jake! He was kick ass!

In all, this story touched me very deeply. Mason and Ryder really had to work hard for their love to endure all the obstacles and demons that seemed to be lurking in every corner. Nicola Haken did a beautiful job with this book. I truly think that she is one of the most talented authors out there today ~ Looking forward to The Making of Matt due out next month

It's official! I'm a Nicola Haken SLUT!!
She has made a true fan out of me.
I'll admit, the beginning of the first book was a little "rough" for me, but about maybe 25-30% in, I finally got the feel for her and it was smooth sailing from then on. I had NO problems with this book...at.all.

Ryder, the beautiful porn star, has many internal demons and doesn't ever plan to get close to anyone...until Mason George.
They have a rough go for the first few months, and I can't blame Ryder, given his past. He has been through so much, and no one he's willing to share it all with, not even Elle.

His journey through emotional freedom is just that, emotional...I can't tell you the # of times I had tears in my eyes. You can feel is pain through the pages, and THAT is what makes me a Nicola fan!!

Mason has a past in his own rights, but he is always the rock, he is built for these kinds of things, and its just what Ryder needs. I love the relationships Mason develops as well with the other characters, especially Matt ((and ooooh I can't wait for HIS story!!!)) And of course Jake and Sawyer make cameos, and Jake is as baddass as ever!! ;)

This book has humor, drama, shady pasts, and love & family, what more could you ask for?? Besides an amazing story, and well.... porn?? It is well executed! and I would 1-click ANYthing of hers in the future!

I give this book 4+ stars

Wow, Nicola completely got me with this one. I was not at all expecting it to go how it did, and I was literally on the edge of my seat, my heart going crazy, my stomach in knots, just waiting to see what would happen. I'm usually pretty great at working out early on how books will turn out - I think I annoy Nicola at times with my notes when I click on - but Taming Ryder actually had me gasping in surprise. Gasping!!!

Such a great story, and my heart ached for poor Ryder, and everything he had been through, and continued to go through. He's definitely a guy in need of some TLC and a HEA.

And now, I'm desperately awaiting my favourite characters story which is coming up next. Matt!!!!! This guy is hilarious and I can't wait for his adventure.

I did receive this book from the author as a beta read. Nicola did not disappoint. This book was so great. Ryder's story is an emotional one. Mason has his own emotional issues. Together can they figure out how to trust, how to open up and how to love and let another in? The story is one you will fall in love with both of them. Of course those awesome guys from Being Sawyer Knight are all there too showing support and how a family should be. Ryder has to face bis past to move forward and Mason wants to be with him every step of the way. When this book comes out, it is a must buy, a must read!!

I really liked Ryder in the first one, ot was at least intrigued. I loved Mason.
There were some moments where the dialogue seemed a little off for me. Matt was less obnoxious and I am gonna read his story.
My biggest problem with this was
No words dude, none but it made the story plummet for me. So yeah some things didn't work for me, I felt there were some missed opportunities since the story went that route there towards the end.
I liked this better than the first, Mason was such a sweetie.

Meraviglioso!!

I finished book 1 yesterday and tho I didn’t think much of it I decided to insist and read the other two books in the series. This one is a little better than the 1st one.

I found Ryder and Mason more relatable because they are both gay porn stars and gay porn stars is one of my things, since I spend a lot of time watching them. Who doesn’t? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ryder is super problematic, actually I think there should have been some TW, there’s rape, there’s suicidal thoughts, there’s self harming...it’s not pretty. But he eventually come around and meets Mason and things start to get better. It’s not magical dick tho. They work through their shit.

I’ll give it 3,5 cause it has more depth than the other but it still hasn’t achieve the level of excellence I was expecting.

With "Being Sawyer Knight" Nicola Haken popped my m/m romance cherry. I loved it, but wasn't sure if it was a one-time deal.
After reading "Taming Ryder" I know it wasn't. Another m/m romance that I absolutely loved, "Taming Ryder" is even better than its predecessor in my humble opinion.
And that says quite a lot.

Although it has the steaminess of the first book, for me it was more emotional and intense, less focused on the erotic side and more on the heart. But don't worry, the sex scenes aren't lacking in any way, shape or form.

Ryder was introduced in Sawyer's and Jake's story and had a vital part in Sawyer finally accepting himself. We've gotten to know Ryder as this fun-loving, take no prisoners, slightly crazy and slightly sex-obsessed hair stylist turned gay porn star.

This is how we are introduced to him in this book as well and I must admit that at times he irritated me. He was trying too hard to be cool, happy and fun. But just as in real life, the people that exude the aura of happiness, joy and fun, are often the ones that are the most broken and hide the most tragic secrets inside. Ryder is not different and quickly, we get to see a different person. A young man that feels lost and alone, who guards his heart and doesn't dare to love and fully trust people, having been let down before.
So he puts on a mask, living up to what he thinks people expect of him, not showing who he really is. The thing about masks though is, that they get cracks and once they do, you can't hide behind them indefinitely. Ryder's mask slowly gets those cracks when Mason steps into his life. From the start he feels an attraction to Mason that he doesn't understand and can't explain. And he sure as hell doesn't want to feel it. He tries to fight it, not allowing himself to feel more than a guarded friendship - because love has the power to hurt and to break.
Emotions as strong can't be subdued for long though and once Ryder opens up to Mason, allowing him to see his biggest demons, it looks like he might finally allow the one thing into his life he thought he never wanted - love.
For the first time he doesn't have to pretend to be happy. He actually is. That happiness is suddenly destroyed when people from his past reveal a truth so gruesome, so tragic, it has the power to break Ryder for good. It definitely broke my heart and made me hate with unparalleled fury.

Mason on the other hand is the complete opposite of Ryder. He is calm, laid-back and sensitive. He has no issues showing his emotions and acknowledging his own feeling. Having demons of his own, he has done his best to put them to rest and has now a healthy attitude towards life. His main problem is more the fact that due to his past, he feels like he'll never be able to achieve his dreams. He is on his own and at times his situation seems fairly hopeless. Not wanting to be anyone's charity case, he tried to do things on his own - a reason he takes on a job in the porn industry. But he hasn't counted in that the new people coming in to his life have big hearts and quickly see him as a member of their family.
Suddenly, he isn't alone anymore and has people in his life he can count on and how love him. But the one person he wants the most, is also the one person he has to fight for the hardest - Ryder.
Having been attracted to Ryder from the start, he's able to see that there is more to Ryder than he shows the world. The extent of the tragedy Ryder is hiding isn't something Mason expected, but he shows his true colors after finding out - loving Ryder even more fiercely and unconditionally, standing by his side giving him the support he needs. Even when Ryder's world falls apart and his trustworthiness is questioned, Mason's love and faith in Ryder do not waver. Instead, he fights with the help of their friends for the man he loves.

Their love story is beautiful. Yes, there is heart-break to the point of insanity, but there is also a lot of love, trust and respect that both have for each other. The same goes for the rest of their makeshift family - Sawyer, Jake, Elle, Kip, Matt, Ivan and a few others, that prove blood isn't always thicker than water.
The whole story was a perfect blend of heart-warming and heart-breaking moments and made me not only cry for Ryder and Mason, but also allowed me to smile a lot.

And as always with Nicola Haken's book, it had a good dose of real-life problems handled with the utmost realism and respect, calling attention to topics that need to be talked about: Homophobia, mental illness, self-harm and drug abuse are just a few of them. And she manages to educate and teach about them without shoving it down the reader's throat.

This is a perfect love story.

5+ cocky, sexy and sweet m/m stars.

Description ~

~ Mason

“Because the most exciting things in life always happen via the back door”

My Review ~

We originally met Ryder in Being Sawyer Knight, he was a walk on the wild side with a touch of the lonely young man he constantly hid from everyone. He worked as a stylist for Elle who introduced him to Sawyer and Jake. Elle also happens to be his best friend, his biggest cheerleader, and very much a big sister figure to Ryder.

Picking up with Ryder in his story, he's no longer working with Elle and is now living in California working as a porn star. In fact he's one of the most popular stars at Back Door Studio. However being a porn star isn't what defines Ryder. He's been shaped by his past experiences into someone that stays away from relationships, other than with Elle, Sawyer, and Jake. That is until sweet, sexy Mason George shows up at an open audition for new talent for Back Door Studio. Ryder sees something in him that calls to him, yet scares the living hell out of him.

Mason, on the other hand, it just trying to survive after his life kind of fell apart. The open audition was more a matter of needing money over having a real desire to work as a porn star. Ryder ends up letting Mason stay with him in his spare bedroom, and they end up becoming friends in an odd way. Mason is very attracted to Ryder, almost from the moment they meet. Ryder on the other hand, absolutely runs the other way the moment he has an inkling of a feeling for Mason.

The relationship between the two of them develops slowly but not without many bumps, bruises and hurt feelings. Ryder's been very damaged by his past, and once we hear what happened to him...well it's very understandable why he's the way he is. No young person should have to go through what he did, and to find out all the circumstances around it.. Well let's just say Ryder is a very strong young man.

This story was a very hot, but also a very emotional story for Ryder and Mason. Not just the relationship aspect, which was really well written, but the backstory for Ryder, which will literally tear your heart to pieces. While I loved Being Sawyer Knight, there was something more to Taming Ryder that made me love this story even more. I went into this story thinking it would be a quick yet sexy read. Taming Ryder ended up being one of my favorite books for the year.

Nicola Haken has quickly moved onto my list of must read authors, especially with this book. She tells an excellent, well-crafted, very emotionally charged story. Her characters are well written, and have interesting back stories and addicting current tales. I look forward to many more books it the M/M romance genre from this author. I highly recommend Taming Ryder for all of you ladies out there that love the Cocky Boys, and those of you that enjoy a well written story with two very sexy, yet adorable young men finding their way.

Rachel and Christina’s Tag Team Review, reviewing for Love Between the Sheets

Rachel: 4 stars

Christina: 4 ½ stars

Taming Ryder is the second book in the Souls of the Knight series by Nicola Haken. We met Ryder in the first book, Being Sawyer Knight, and for both of us, he really stole the show, so I was really looking forward to learning more about Ryder’s story.

CM: We both know of Nicola’s obsession with Jake Bass, the gay porn star that graces the cover of Taming Ryder, as you read the book, did you envision Jake as Ryder? I know I sure did! I think she did an excellent job of using Jake’s look, (young, innocent looking) to sell Ryder as the real deal. He comes off as cocky and confident, when the truth of the matter is he’s hiding secrets and a deep-seated pain that he’s never really dealt with. Jake’s natural look really lends himself to the role of Ryder.

RM: Oh god yes! I totally saw Jake Bass in Ryder. It felt like Nicola was telling Jakes story at times with all the similarities between them. Ryder really was a tortured soul and I was so rooting for him.

CM: There is no doubt that this is a steamy, steamy read! How did you feel about the connection between Ryder and Mason? It was a little instalovey for me, but I do think they had some great chemistry.

RM: I loved Ryder and Mason’s simmering attraction and I have to agree, this was one steamy read! I think they worked well together but I kinda liked Mason more than Ryder. Mason seemed to be more mature than Ryder, he handled things better and I loved how supportive he was. Ryder seemed to frustrate me at times but I like that in a book; it makes the characters feel real.

CM: I think the biggest disappointment for me with this book is that it felt like the story arc with Ryder’s parents, his dad in particular, was not fully resolved. His parents did a major, major number on him and I would have liked to have seen more development into what the fall out was, both in terms of their relationship, as well as Ryder’s father’s career. It was kind of a huge bombshell in his parent’s involvement in the matter, don’t you think?

RM: Yes, I agree. We were definitely treated to a ‘What the Hell?!’ moment where they were concerned. I would have liked a little more conclusion to their relationship. I have to say, my heart hurt for Ryder for what he had suffered both in the past and present at the hands of his parents. It made me so damn relieved that he had Mason to lean on.

CM: Any speculation as to where Nicola is going to go next with the series? I can’t tell you how excited I was to see Matt the twat get his own book! Much like Ryder stole the show in the first book, I felt like Matt stole the show in this one. Do you think we’ll get some major news from him, maybe about switching or joining both “teams”? I know I’m kind of hoping he makes a big revelation!

RM: Eeeek! Yes!! I loved Matt the twat in this book. I definitely think we are going to be hit with a revelation there, you can see it coming and I’m so excited for it! Matt did steal the show in every scene he was in for sure. I so hope that Nicola keeps the fun side of Matt going in his own book.

CM: Final thoughts. I did like this one quite a bit more that the first. I felt far more invested in Ryder as a character than I did with Sawyer and Jake, however I did like their inclusion in this volume of the story. I think it lends itself to create a family atmosphere, something important when it seems that for many of them, they lacked the “conventional” family they were born into. For me, this was a 4 1/2 star read. I did like it but I would have liked to see more development with Ryder’s family.

RM: I felt connected to the characters more in this book and it gave me more ‘feels’. I even liked Sawyer and Jake more this time around too. I agree that this book had more of a family atmosphere about it and that was so nice to read. I would give this story 4 stars. I can’t wait to go on Matt’s journey in his book!!!

Taming Ryder by Nicola Haken

Readers meet Ryder Richardson in book 1, Being Sawyer Knight, a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

I was anxious to get to know the mystery that was Ryder and Ms. Haken did not disappoint. Ryder’s journey is a powerful one, one that may break your heart, and hurt your soul for the pain this man experienced as a child (nope not telling you...read the book)

Readers quickly meet Mason George, the newest exclusive model at Back Door Studios because yes readers, Ryder is a gay porn star. Mason and Ryder meet during an “interview” one where the connection between these two was clearly something different.

Ryder and Mason develop a quick friendship and as Mason opens up about the pain from his past, it allowed me to fall in love with this character on so many levels. Mason’s desire to be a friend, a partner to Ryder warmed my heart.

Since I enjoyed book 1 so much, I also truly enjoyed seeing the cast from book 1. Sawyer and Jake with their new profession (not telling again...read the book) and Elle continuing to be a friend to Ryder. And there is Matt, oh Matt; he is too funny and so well… Matt needs a happy too.

The bond Ryder and Mason develop is one the reader can feel and is one that the reader will understand why Ryder is scared as it develops.

There are numerous sex scenes in this book and the author does a really good job at helping the reader feel the difference between sex for the act and sex for emotional connection.

I will not pretend to understand how a relationship works when your “job” is to have sex with others but I will say the author did have me believing Ryder and Mason could and would make it work.

I am very much looking forward to book 3 about Matt and I so hope to see more of this cast as their happy continues to develop. These characters truly do feel real and live in my heart!

Rating: 4.50 - 5.00 stars
Cliffhanger: No
Spoiler-free review

It's official I am a Nicola Haken fan. I really liked Being Sawyer Knight (Souls of the Knight #1) and Taming Ryder (Souls of the Knight #2) blew me away.

Ryder Richardson is effed up. He is drinks way to much, abuses his mind and body with drugs and cutting. Ryder is a porn star, model and hair stylist with a hard-partying past. He meets Mason George, and his world is turned upside down.

Mason is sweet, sexy and stable. He also happens to be Back Door Studios newest porn star and Ryder’s new co-worker. They become fast friends and roommates. Ryder starts to slowly lets Ryder into his heart...but will his past finally come back to haunt him? Can true love save the day?

This second installment in the Souls of the Knight series picked up where BSK left off. Nicola did a fabulous job developing the characters and story line. Ryder’s depression issues and heartbreaking past were very so intense and raw. Then there was the plot twist I didn’t see coming. The WORST PARENTS EVER award goes to Mr. & Mrs. Richardson.

The secondary character show stealer is Matt. OMG is he was a heart attack! I can't wait for Matt’s story. It will be auto-downloaded. Just send me the pre-order link now.

First I have to say that I am totally a Nicola Haken junkie...Yes I am! Second I am going to say that I recommend that you read Being Sawyer Knight prior to this book.

Why?....Because. No really that's not just it but this is where you will first get your feel of Ryder and his character. It is important to also understand where Ryder's falls into his own story from Being Sawyer Knight.

Now the review. Yes I loved Ryder in the first book, love him even more in this book because he just grows on you. With all his hard living, drinking, partying, sex with any man willing and able there is one thing about him he has both heart and soul. Ryder who was Sawyer's best friend Elle's assistant by day porn star by night has now gone into porn industry a.k.a. Kyle King.

Enter new freshman star Mason George who was a go-go dancer now shows up for a job at Back Door Studio for a job in the movies. Ryder shows Mason the ropes in the industry and with nothing but the backpack that he is carrying Ryder offers Mason a place to stay and help him get on his feet.

In the time that Ryder and Mason get to know each other Mason who is patient and kind will be there for Ryder when ever he is ready. The friendship between these two grows and will become stronger as these two men start to learn each other pasts.

The most important thing that I say in this review is that this is a love story between two individuals that have had nothing and now together have it all. Yes there is the hot sex scenes let's not forget because this is a Nicola Haken book but it is secondary to the romance of these two by far.

Sometimes books just stun you into a loss of words because of their awesomeness. This was that book for me. The vulnerability and fragility of Ryder and Mason is in contrast with the confidence they exude in public. It was this that drew me into their story and the emotional journey they go on together as they find their way through the fog of their pasts to their futures together. The grittiness of the story shown through the harsh realities of their lives and the fears that they both have about love and relationships had me rooting for their HEA.

Ryder is a successful porn star, happy to spend his life drifting from one man to the next and the thought of being in a committed relationship scaring him. The shadows of his past have left their mark and left him vulnerable and determined to avoid a relationship at all costs. When Mason auditions for the same studio as Ryder, the carefully constructed walls start to show cracks as he finds himself drawn to Mason and his equally fragile character. Mason has his own dark shadows that have left him vulnerable and more willing to take a chance on love.

Their journey is not an easy one and is one that, at times, makes for uncomfortable reading. But once again Nicola Haken has done it in a way that is sensitive and has you feeling for the characters. I loved both Ryder and Mason separately but together they are a force and stronger. Together anything seems possible. I am in awe of Nicola as she has once again produced one of the best reads of the year. She never disappoints and always delivers love stories of the highest quality. I loved 'Taming Ryder' and I can't wait to see what's next for Nicola.

Once again, it's difficult for me to decide, what's the fair rating for this book.

Actually, I liked a large part of this book.
First of all, I already loved Ryder in Being Sawyer Knight, the first book of this series, and was curious about his story. And then of course, I was happy to meet all the other lovely characters from BSK again. It was great to see Sawyer and Jack having some sweet moments. Elle was again an important and supportive friend. Oh, and Matt, he was as always good for some laughs (I'm looking forward to read his story).
Then there were the difficult issues and moments in this book. It contains self harm, rape and suicide attempt. In my opinion, the author has managed to write these parts convincingly and realistically.
Ryder's thoughts, when he felt lost and numb, and the urge for self harm was immense.....

Silently, I asked myself why I was doing this. I used to do it because I needed to feel. Something. Anything.

Exactly the words my daughter used, when she tried to explain why she had cut herself. I think everyone can imagine, how deeply it touched me, to read these words.

So therefore this should be a five star read for me.
Unfortunately I wasn't convinced of the connection between Ryder and Mason. I can't explain why, but I just couldn't feel the emotional bond.
And then, towards the end of the book, the story line turned a little unbelievable and things were wrapped up too quickly.

MY REVIEW.
So good i had to re read it!
I dont want to give too much of the story away in my review, but let me just give you some of
Nicola Haken's awesomeness, she does not disappoint in any of her books, and this one is exceptional. I fell for Nicola's characters in Sawyer and Jake's story, the first in the Soul Knight's series, Being Sawyer Knight.

Taming Ryder was so great and Ryder's story is an emotional one, your heart strings will be well and truly tugged. Ryder's tormented by demons from his past and survives by not getting too close to anyone, hes the love em and leave em guy, until Mason.
Mason has his own emotional issues, but together they make such a beautiful couple.
Throughout the book Ryder and Mason must work together to figure out how to trust each other, how to open up and how to love and let the another in. Mason and Ryder form such a strong wonderful bond throughout this story.
All the secondary characters really bolster the story up, i was glad we got a bit more form Sawyer and Jake in Ryder's book it was nice to catch up with them a bit.

Be ready for a roller coaster ride of emotions and edge of the seat moments, heart wrenching chapters followed by a tear filled love story that will knock you on your ass.
This book is just fantastic and i loved every word.

REVIEW
I was totally captivated by this story. Ryder we met in book 1 and you could tell he had a horrible past he was keeping to himself.

In this book we learn everything about Ryder and why he hides in the spotlight. He meets Mason who is now working with Back Door Productions and lets him move in with him. They quickly become good friends but something more. However Ryder will not get close or even think of falling in love with anyone.

Mason has just as many demons in his past as does Ryder so he doesn’t understand why Ryder is keeping himself some what distant. He has fallen hard for Ryder.

Can Ryder open up and learn to let love in his life?
Can Mason be what Ryder needs?
