I just finished this book last night. It was great and full of suspense the whole time. This is the second book in the series, there are five in all. This book is about a boy named Oliver. He is a vampire that was given a prophecy. His human friend and his zombie friend are his only companions. In this book lots of vampires are being slain and it looks like Emalie (the human friend)is doing it. Is she really?

The Sunlight Slayings by Kevin Emerson. This is the second of the Oliver Nocturne series, and Oliver is dealing with the ramifications of both vampires and Emalie thinking that he killed Dean. Sometimes, he even thinks that he might have killed him. Then, vampires start dying, victims of some strange occurrence where they die from the inside-out with their beings suffused with sunlight. Who is responsible? Is Emalie involved? Will Oliver's parents find out Oliver's lies? Will Oliver be one of the victims?
This is a page-turner. I'm really dying to figure out some of the secrets in this series, especially now that we've had two books in this world. If this series was not my current buddy read with Connor, I would have already picked up the other books and torn through them. As it is, I'm glad we've already got book three in hand to start next week (Book 39 of 2019)
THE SUNLIGHT SLAYINGS is the second story in the OLIVER NOCTURNE series.
It's been a few weeks since Emalie has distanced herself from Oliver, assuming he's the one responsible for Dean's death. But out of nowhere, Dean shows back up in Oliver's life. But Dean is now a zombie!
Everyone knows that the person who kills someone is the only one that can raise a zombie. Well, everyone assumes that Oliver is the one that killed Dean, but since he's positive he's not the one responsible, the two have to figure out who is Dean's master.
Besides trying to determine who the mystery master is, Dean and Oliver have to find Emalie and convince her Oliver isn't the guilty person. In their quest to reach Emalie, vampire youth are being slain by sunlight. Oliver learns that only a very skilled Orani would be able to do such a deed. Oliver knows that Dead Desiree in the underworld thinks Emalie is an Orani. But Oliver can't believe that Emalie would go so far as to try to kill him, because she believes he's responsible for Dean's death.
With wraiths, powerful magic, sunlight spells, and Valentine's Day fast approaching, Oliver and Dean have their work cut out for them. Though told by his parents to stay indoors and let the adults figure out what is going on, Oliver doesn't listen to them and gets caught up in all the drama that is unfolding. Dean and Oliver are just as determined to prove Emalie isn't responsible for the slayings as much as they want to prove Oliver isn't the one responsible for Dean's death.
Mr. Emerson writes a wonderful sequel to THE VAMPIRE'S PHOTOGRAPH. The action and adventure is just as contagious as the first one, if not more so. Oliver discovers some of the secrets surrounding his past, but he is still unsure of who he is or what he is destined for.
Now, if the reader is caught up in the adventures of Oliver Nocturne, they'll have to wait for the next installment, BLOOD TIES, due out November 2008.
The Sunlight Slayings is the second book in the Oliver Nocturne series, and begins where the last book ended. Emalie, believing Oliver killed her cousin Dean, had distanced herself from Oliver. However, Dean rises as a zombie, shocking Oliver as a vampire can only raise a zombie if they have done the killing. Everyone assumes that Oliver is the one that killed Dean, but since he knows he didn’t, the two have to discover who Dean's master is. While trying to determine Dean’s master, a sinister force is slaying young vampires using powerful magic. Oliver and Dean must locate Emalie (who was seen after a slaying). As an Orani, Oliver believes that Emalie is the only one who has the means and the motive to be slaying vampires. Oliver must deal with wraiths, magic, sunlight spells, and a human group of fanatics intent on stopping the elusive prophesy.
This a great second book, the adventure is just as exciting as the first, and allows the reader more insight into Oliver’s world of the supernatural. A quick read and definitely for younger readers but I think it’s unusually well written and find Oliver an interesting character.
If the YAs and older have Edward from Twilight, I dare say the younger age group can claim Oliver Nocturne for themselves. I can imagine that this story would stir a whole lot more of suspense and reaction from younger readers than from me as an adult. The story wasn't bad, and it was entertaining enough to make me read it till the end and even made me buy the next in its series, the Sunlight Slayings. In this second book, Oliver has more depth and becomes a stronger character. His adventures are fraught with risks and perils, and shared by his human girl-friend Emalie and their otherworldly companions. The story is fast paced, clean, easy and unambiguous. This is definitely suited for 5th or 6th graders, and for older ones like me who just refuse to grow up. I am pretty confident that the remaining 3 books in the series will not disappoint.
This book is when Oliver tries to be friends with Emalie but there is some kind of conflict about it because Emalie has this spirit and is trying to slay Oliver! But no fear, Oliver is taking control of Emalie ( as in being friends with her again and stop the evil spirit that is protecting her). But this is the sequel of the first book of Oliver Nocturne so if you read the first book and wanna read the second one... be prepared this book will knock you down. P.S I have the book at home so you can borrow it from me anytime.
This is the second book in the series and continues with Oliver trying to figure out if he was the vampire that killed Dean. Dean returns as a zombie in this book and really is the best character in this book. I didn't feel this book kept the reader as interested as the first one did. Someone is going around killing vampires with a Sun spell and it seems it might be Olivers past friend. I'm hoping the next book is better.
