YES, YES, AND YES!!!!! I love absolutely everything about this book. As somebody wanting to dabble into Mexican cooking with no experience or knowledge, this book ticks all the boxes. Completely informative about ingredients, methods, and other little tidbits I would have never thought of-only to be stumped while attempting the recipes. THIS BOOK IS FULL FRONT COVER TO BACK COVER WITH MOUTHWATERING RECIPES!!! While looking at each recipe, the author goes over variations, suggestions, and tips making it so simple as a newcomer to Mexican cuisine, I want to dive right it Bravo! Well done!! Take a bow-you deserve it!!
I really really love beautiful food pictures - and many of them! - in my cookbooks. I realize the price point of this book means there won't be many pictures, but it still hurts me to not be able to see the outcome of all the wonderful sounding recipes. Each chapter has one food picture at the beginning, and that is it. All the recipes sound wonderful, and look easy. I got this through Inter Library Loan, and the check out period and due date corresponded to my vacation, so I wasn't able to try any of the recipes. I may try accessing the book again later, but i can't fairly rate the book so just saying it has no pictures.
These recipes included bad and outdated advise. In one case a pot of beans called for two cans of tomatoes with the other ingredients, anyone familiar with cooking beans knows not to add acidic ingredients to uncooked beans. Not being a chef, I second-guessed myself and tried it. That meant an extra 4 hours until those beans were tender.
Eh. Got one potential recipe. I’ve had wonderful Mayan pork pibil in Mexico and we’ll see how the slow-cooker version translates. Hopefully Anja hasn’t tossed my achiote. 2/5
I first read this book on my Kindie but I had to buy a hard copy as I know I will use it lots.
Lots of simple slow cooked recipes for classic Mexican dishes. Some of the ingredients may be a little hard to source, but the book suggests lots of easy to find alternatives which is useful.
I recommend making the Red Salsa and Salsa Chicken. Both are very easy, tasty and were enjoyed by my whole family.
I really like this cookbook!!! I have not tried every recipe, but I am looking forward to completing all of them!!! If you like Mexican food like I do and you do not have all the time in the world for cooking you will love this cookbook!!! #WickedlyTwistedBookReviews #WTBReviews
