Demetri is rich, very much so, but he's always been lacking in one area, at least in his opinion. He's always felt his grandfather felt he was less than due to the circumstances of his birth. To make himself feel better, Demetri plans to purchase land near his grandfather's and turn it into a resort. The catch, the seller requires Demetri be married. While it's not something he wants to do, nor is the woman more than a friend in all honesty, he's planning on proposing to his "girlfriend," Christina. Who also happens to be the niece of the man selling the property. He's not looking forward to the marriage, knowing he doesn't rhink of her that way. Now the gorgeous naked woman that just appeared in his bathroom while he's showering? Oh yeah, she definitely has an immediate and intense impact on him.
Raina needs help. Her beloved uncle has been imprisoned in Egypt, wrongfully so, yet she's unable to garner his freedom. She needs someone with connections and upon hearing Demetri's destination, she ensures she'll be in the same place. Prior to boarding his boat, she stalked, err researched him, and knows he's a good man, willing to help others. However, her plan to hide quietly until she can leave the boat at the next stop isn't possible and she convinces him to play along as her new husband. Of course, the two men with the guns don't look convinced.
When Demetri realizes the extent of Raina's dilemma, he knows the solution. He wants them to get married for real. This way, he can purchase the property, Raina can use his connections and influence to free her uncle, and they can explore the intense chemistry between them. He figures a year should be long enough to accomplish all of that. So why then, when he envisions letting her go in a year, does his chest ache?
Raina knows she probably isn't Demetri's usual type. She's spontaneous to his planning. But she begins to see the man he truly is, the one he doesn't seem to want others to see for some reason. She knows she's falling for him and that their time together is temporary. So why is she beginning to fantasize about a future with him?
Will Demetri and Raina admit that there is nothing temporary about their feelings for one another? Will Raina's uncle be freed? Will Demetri's family accept his new wife? Will Demetri let Raina be herself? What happens when Demetri misreads a situation, jumping to conclusions where Raina is concerned? Has he lost her forever? Can Raina ever forgive Demetri? Do these two have a chance at a HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people embark on a journey by mutual need only, then realize all they truly need is one another. Psst...for those, like me, concerned with safety issues...Yes, Demetri had planned on proposing to Christina. No, they weren't intimate aside from sharing a few chaste kisses, none of which we ever see. No, he never thought of Christina in a romantic way, but he was fond of her as a friend, her family being friends with his.
On a purely personal note, Demetri referring to Christina, the woman he at first planned to propose to in order to purchase the property, as his girlfriend makes no sense because he then thinks how they're only casual and don't even keep in touch in between his visits to Gavdos. Those are contradictory statements. If they're casual, then she isn't his girlfriend, she's essentially a friend he visits from time to time that he's fond of. Plus, I really didn't care for the fact that the rings he and Raina used were the ones he'd purchased for he and Christina. That's pretty tacky. Thankfully, he did rectify that. Also, I got tired of him mentally comparing Raina to other women in the beginning. For example, "Most of his previous women bad been refined to the point of stuck-up. Raina was a breath of fresh air--intoxicating, addictive air." Yes, she always came out the victor, but the numerous references were unnecessary. With all that being said, I enjoyed this book aside from the things I just mentioned. I will read this author again.
