Brutality is an EXTREME horror tale. Please do not purchase this book if you are easily shocked, disgusted or offended.
Richmond Point hotel stands on the edge of a small town in the middle of the pleasant English countryside. A glowing beacon for the weary traveller, the lost hiker and the young couple, seeking out a secluded haven.
The genial owner, faded wallpaper and old fashioned furniture are only thin coverings, hiding an evil older than man itself. For deep within the bowels of the building lies a small brick-faced room. A place that had witnessed the terrible screams of thousands of people throughout the ages.
He places his naked, begging victims into the metal clamps that are attached to the gore-coated wall. The cries of mercy and forgiveness a comforting melody, reaching a crescendo when he moves aside and their eyes bulge at the sight of the long blades and blowtorch. *** Michael Sandhurst and his young wife recently bought a farmhouse on the edge of town. He fell in love with the quaint old building, nestled in the beautiful surrounding countryside, believing it would be the perfect environment to allow his Jodie to heal from her mental scars.
He too needed somewhere quiet to come to terms with the terrible deeds he enacted to avenge the crimes inflicted upon his new wife. Michael didn't regret taking their lives. After what they did to Jodie, the men deserved their punishment.
The tranquillity is shattered when forces conspire to rip the couple out of each other's arms and drop them into the embrace of the beasts who dwell at Richmond Point.
Ian Woodhead is just past the age of forty. He lives in the north of England and is married to a wonderful woman. He has forgotten how many children he has. He had been writing for nearly twenty years but has only just gained the confidence to start showing his work. Ian finds it a little creepy writing about himself in the third person.
For the sake of this book review I shall have to call myself Pandora because it was my curiosity that lead me to this book with a very apt warning for extreme situations, horror and gore. I might have said initially that there was very little that could frighten me or jar my sense of sanity but in this case I was wrong. This short novel dealt with not only terrifying killers and brutal murders but it touched upon the supernatural causes for the extreme tortures behind them. This is not to say that man alone could not have been responsible and but the way that the book was written does lead one to be extremely suspicious of the nature of ma in general.
I have to warn folk that this book is a bit rough in the editing department and there were a few missing words, shifting tenses and misspellings but when the story is engaging enough I can look past that. Some may not be able to but well, the story kept me wanting to know more so I hung in there. With the plot revolving around a hotel owner with a mission to not only kill but torture individuals for some inherent purpose that isn’t revealed immediately but is implied, I pushed forward past the gore and into a very intricate tale of almost demonic direction. A broken hero/savior was introduced whose purpose it was terror but a defeat of those whose evil knew little bounds.
No this book is not for the faint of heart or those who easily have nightmares but at its core, surprisingly is a tale of the suffering and redemption of the human soul. Lastly, I have to add that it does very much need polishing but overall, it was a decent read.
WOW!!!! The title says it all. For true horror fans this is the book for you.It is very well written with well defined characters that either commit or endure unspeakable acts. Another main character is the hotel where unsuspecting people check in and are never seen again. This book has some really sick, gory and disturbing parts to it with a supernatural aspect, the owners of the hotel hold control over the townsfolk who also are very twisted people. The action starts up fast and keeps gaining steam. This is definitely not for people who don't have strong stomachs but if you enjoy a rip roaring horror story this is a must read. I'm really looking forward to reading more from the sick, twisted mind of Ian Woodhead.
Wow! Gruesome, violent, action packed insanity and with an amazing plot too! I'm close to speechless! Not sure how I will sleep tonight! Super Highly recommend to all fans of modern horror!
That's all I can say, is wow. What a disturbing book. Although an awesome read. It is gory, bloody and a lot of sexual situations, but I guess that's what makes the book great!! Well done, or maybe I'm just twisted, because I loved it! lol
Really liked the characters, and build up to each one. Then it started jumping from person to person. Location to location. Then past to future, and past again! It really got confusing and hard to follow. Then went from reality to fantasy and back to reality. I had to actually re-read some pages to get it! I would rather read something that wasn't so hard to follow. It would make it much more enjoyable!!
Hard to follow. Jumped around too much. Too much use of cumbersome naming like "the man formerly called..." to be easily followed.
Worse, it seems as though the editor gave up halfway through. Names got mixed up, apostrophes were where they didn't belong, and LOTS of wrong words, like "fair" where "fare" should have been used.
Yes, I'm nitpicking. What could've been a good story was lost in a sea of grammatical errors too glaring to ignore.
Confusing because there are so many characters and it's hard to tell where it's taking place - in the hell dimension or for real, or what. It's readable.
I've not read an Ian Woodhead story I didn't enjoy. Thoroughly enjoy. When I read, I am not an editor. I read for the pleasure of the story. Period. There is a lot going on here folks; you gotta keep up.
