Margaret was born and raised in Texas; grew up loving life in the country, riding horses and writing. Her love of writing was inspired by her maternal grandmother who wrote short stories and poetry and read them to her when she was a child. From her love of reading when she was young to her passion for writing poetry and short stories in junior high she had a desire to share her stories with the world. After owning her own business for 17 years God opened that door for her, and now she is realizing her dream of being a published author. Margaret has been married to the love of her life, for 42 years, has two sons, and six grandchildren to love and spoil.
A fabulous book about a pre-teen who was born with HIV. Melissa has lived in the Foster Care System for 12 years - everyone too scared to take in a child with HIV, when Julie meets her and immediately falls in love with her. Julie and Melissa bond quickly and their
This book was a nice surprise. I expected it to be a bit cheesy but it wasn’t. Julie, the main character, is a woman with believable motives and complex concerns, and when she embarks on the process of adopting Melissa, a 12-year-old orphan with HIV, she is understandably anxious that nothing should jeopardise it.
When she meets Peter, the country singer who has issues of his own, things become complicated. We witness their growing attraction and her efforts to keep the relationship from developing until Melissa is officially hers. I enjoyed the way the plot took us to different picturesque settings and exposed us to people in the fields of music production and special needs care. Melissa herself sparkled on every page and was a real bonding force for many different people in the story.
A light read, but substantial enough to leave an impression of admiration for the courage of the children, parents and caregivers facing the challenges of HIV and AIDS. Also a satisfying romance for those who enjoy reading about complex characters.
I normally avoid romances, but the premise of this book caught my attention. While there is a fair amount of sexual innuendo and heavy breathing, there's nothing explicit and the author does a great job of making us care about the characters. I found the beginning a little confusing as each character is introduced individually, but once their lives intersect, there's no trouble at all keeping them straight. Best friend Paige was a little too sensual for my taste, but I loved her interaction with both Melissa and Julie. She definitely added sass to the story. I could identify with Julie, constantly second-guessing her mothering skills when it came to Melissa. She did seem to dissolve into a sobbing mess at the drop of a hat, but considering the depth of her love for Melissa and the challenges she faced, that could be excused. And who wouldn't love Melissa with her indomitable spirit. Love, love, love her. A fun story with a great ending.
This is a book that is appropriate for all ages. It is well written and opens the eye of the reader into the reality of HIV disease and of people who should become comfortable having a relationship with them. Very moving ! I thought sure that the epilogue would be of her death, not her survival ! Glad I was wrong !
This book is an amazing find. It will stay with me for a long time to come. There were a few grammar mistakes but it didn't take from the story. If you like good heartfelt live life books, then check this story out.
The first part of this book was good, nice plot with well written characters. I liked the humor as much as the emotional moments. But the next part was disappointing, as if it was written by someone else. All in all, I liked it and it was a good read.
A cute story about love and living life. Made me thankful for my healthy children! You will laugh and maybe cry, but mostly fall in love once you meet Melissa!
An engaging story that was well written and easy to read. Melissa is a young girl who is facing adversity and rises to the challenges that face her throughout her life. Julie wants to be a good mum to Melissa and is helped in this role by her best friend Paige who is a fun and stabilizing person in Julie's life. I enjoyed the unfolding of the story and I remember the time when HIV was feared.
