This started out promising, but fizzled quickly because of the lukewarm passion and chemistry between the protagonists. I didn't like how Sebastien's feelings for Max (Maxwell) never surpassed the lust-and-like stage, while both remained adamant about not wanting to marry each other for most of the story. The declaration of love then, particularly on Sebastien's side, seemed to come out of nowhere just so the author could end the book. I was not convinced Sebastien and Max fell in love. It didn't help either that the characterization seemed one-dimensional, especially that of Max's father.

I didn't feel a connection to this couple - they were just o.k. Neither wanted to marry but she is forced to decide on old men her father has brought together. The H is trying to steal something back that was stolen from him.

It just wasn't clear if the h's father was telling the truth or not in how he came into the possession of the H's property. Another thing was a picture the h was in with her parents. Her mother died when she was 2 weeks old, but the picture with her mother was when she was 12. Guess the artist put her in the picture!

No cheating, little on romance, HEA, a another suitor thrown in the mix that seemed like an after thought and went nowhere.

Lovemaking within marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and barely described. (ljb)

Sweet

This is a short and sweet love story. This is the second time I have read this book. The first being in the collection. It was just as good as the first time. I really liked Max and Sebastian. Great characters and interesting story. I'm ready for book three.
Eliza Knight is an all time favourite author for me. I've enjoyed all of her books that I have read and love that some are available on Kindle Unlimited.

Well written and I liked reading about Queen Elizabeth's court and the fashions. Read as part of the Legend of the Theodosia Sword boxed set. 3.5 stars.

Sebastien de Rayne, a spy of Queen Elizabeth I 's court has had many missions in the interest of the crown. This time his mission is personal rather than royal. He is going to reclaim the Theodosia Sword and Posey ring from the man who stole the ancient Roman relics from his family in the first place.
The night that his task is to take place, he meets the beautiful Lady Maxwell Dalston, daughter of Baron Dalston... relic thief. Lady Max spies Sebastien and learns of his intentions to take these things which she has just learned will be a part of her small dowry. She speaks up and stops him from taking the sword, threatening to expose him to her father and his dinner guests.
Sebastien then realises that his only hope of reclaiming his heirlooms is to marry the lady... in his pursuit he'll find more treasure than he bargained for.
