This book is the second instalment in the "Chi's Sweet Home" series. I picked up the first volume when I was in Minsk for an exchange in 2019 and absolutely fell in love with Konami's art style and reading this saccharine sweet tale in Russian.
Acquiring books by Russian publishers in Germany is a pain in the ass though. The objects available are really limited and the books tend to be suuuper expensive – which is why I was all the more excited to find the second volume online for 12 bucks. [At this pace, it'll take me a century to collect the whole series in Russian but I really don't mind, I like hunting down books. :D]
The second instalment is just as sweet as the first one. In it, we follow Chi (the Yamada's family cat) as he slowly begins to grow. Just like before, Chi's increasingly curious and independent behaviour begins to wear on each member of the Yamada household. The mom despairs as her flowers are being torn apart by Chi, the dad's sickness and need for quiet is interrupted, and little Yohei doesn't wanna share all of his toes with the little cat. Each chapter is just lovely and fun.
I know this is quite a "silly" comic but reading this series always brings me so much joy. It has me grinning from ear to ear ... even though in this instalment, the introduction of a new (more menacing) cat was actually kinda scary; the way that cat was drawn freaked me tf out.
Anyways, it's always a treat to read something in Russian – even if it's just a simple manga – and at the back of the book there was even a 4-pages long interview with the author included, and you cannot even begin to fathom how proud I was of myself that I understood all the questions and her answers. Call me Pushkin at this point. ;)

Дуже мила історія, особливо сподобалося, як приходив чорний кіт в гості. А ще - як Чі ховалася, бо розуміла, що її везуть до ветеринара. Мій кіт якось сидів спокійно на ліжку, поки я збиралася, а коли зібралася, він сховався під ліжко і я його звідти витягала з боротьбою, наче він знав, куди я збиралася його везти )

I like this book it is fun and silly. It is a graphic novle so it is a short story with a calm slow story line that is good if you like cats.

Just adorable! I highly recommend you reading it while you're waiting at the doctor or somewhere else.
Because it's fast paced and also super cute.
Oh and don't try to read everything they say or Chi says, it's kind of a baby language and I can't stand it at all so I just looked at the images :)

Chi's adorable adventures continue. I like keeping a volume of this manga around for a literary rainy day - the watercolor-esque art is pretty, it reads easy, and Chi makes me smile. That being said, I ending up liking the first volume a little more than this one.

every volume in this series will probably be 3.5. I am truly only invested in this charming and adorable story that was delightful to read but there is enough plot to truly jump into this story. I still highly recommend it if you're cat lover or if you loosing for cute, feel good mangas/ comics

Wie auch der erste Teil war es ein Genuss diesen Manga zu lesen! Die Reihe ist für mich wie eine 'Wohlfühl'-Geschichte, bei der ich einfach meinen Kopf ausschalten und der kleinen Chi folgen kann.

Цікавенька манґа, придбала сестрі, бо їй подобається ця історія, стало трохи цікаво про що вона, це маленькі міні епізоди про життя маленької киці Чі та її життя в родині Йохеї, зазначу що тут дуже файна мальовка, загалом цікаво, поки читала згадувала як моя кішечка була кошеням, бо це дуже схоже

An adorable series! And another adorable entry. I didn't find volume 2 quite as hilarious as the first but it was still funny and just as cute. Cute little chapters in which the family is getting used to raising a pet and other's where Chi is exploring and learning about life. He no longer misses his mother and siblings but he does have a couple of flashbacks of things that remind him of that comforting time. While there is no real overarching plot to this volume there is the hanging nuisance of a large cat in the apartment complex who is causing trouble knocking over flowerpots, stealing salmon and he invades Chi's home. Chi begins to meet him more often and at this point learns that he is a cat not the same kind as the family he lives with, though he doesn't really believe it. Though the family has no problems this time with being caught with the cat, except for one near miss. There is some foreshadowing that this large troublemaker cat, similar in looks to a bear, may be the downfall for any hidden pet cats in the complex. In the note at the back we learn about the author's background a bit and find that this is not her first foray into manga, but that it was her first manga written for a men's weekly comic anthology. It is surprising to hear that the intended audience was men since the story is so suitable for children but then on the other hand the father's emotions and attachment to the cat are presented much more as story elements than the mother's. A really cute, funny series!
Reread Jan, 2014: I'm re-reading this so I can finally continue on with the whole series. My impressions are the same and I enjoyed it fully. Chi is endearing to all really, though I think there will be a certain amount of people who find it over the edge of syrupy sweet. I'm the last person to like that type of stuff and kawaii is sooo not me, but Chi has captured my heart and I'm looking forward to the next volume where I think Blackie will become more of a character. My rating still stands at 4/5.

Mehr und mehr gewöhne ich mich an meine neue Familie. Papa ist immer so lieb zu mir und Mama kauft mir leckere Sachen und Yohei spielt mit mir. Aber da ist plötzlich noch so ein komisches, großes, dickes Etwas in unserem Garten und dann will mich Papa auch noch einmal zu diesem Folterer bringen …

Der zweite Band schließt wirklich nahtlos an den ersten Band an und man verliebt sich sofort wieder in die süßen, bezaubernden Bilder, welche Konami Kanata auf jeder einzelnen Seite geschaffen hat.
Die Highlights bleiben einfach Chis unfassbar genialen Gesichtsausdrücke, gerade wenn sie genervt ist oder sauer oder überrascht oder aufgeregt oder … ach, eigentlich immer. Dann muss ich auch sagen, ich finde es toll, dass die Autorin in jedem Kapitel frischen Wind einbringt und es wird wirklich nie langweilig.
In diesem Band kommt auch der dicke Kater öfters zu Wort und ich mag das Dickerchen jetzt schon. Gerade die Kombination, dass Chi etwas über das Katzenleben von ihm erfährt, gefällt mir richtig gut.

Zusammenfassend kann ich wieder einmal nur sagen, dass die Chi Reihe gerade für zwischendurch und wenn man eine Auszeit vom harten Alltag braucht, genau das Richtige ist. Man kann seinen Kopf schweben lassen und einfach die kleinen, lustigen Abenteuer der kleinen Katze Chi genießen und mehr soll uns dieser Comic doch gar nicht bringen, oder?

I absolutely loved the series! Suitable for children aged 7 to 12 years. Very popular among girls. Ideal for cat owners or anyone considering getting a kitten/cat.
Being a cat owner myself, I can relate to the experiences; particularly Chi being separated from her mother and siblings, being adopted by a new family and settling into a new home as was the case when I got my kittens, now cats. A+++

The best thing to read when you're having a fever is something funny and nice to distract yourself while not being too difficult to absorb. Chi's perfect for that. Still a very cute manga. I was reading it while my boy cat was laying right next to me sleeping.
I prefer dogs but I have to begrudgingly admit that cats can be cool, too. ;P

There's a big scary black cat, Chi doesn't want to go to the vet again, and more. Kanata Konami must literally spend her entire life sitting and staring at cats when she's not drawing/writing, because this is probably the most accurate portrayal of kitten-ness I've ever seen. More more more!

The second book was good too, but it felt sometimes a bit slow-paced. The new cat was strange and gave the book a bit of interest towards wanting to read more.

¿Qué haces cuando eres un lindo gatito en un hogar nuevo? ¿Llorar? ¿Nada? No, espera, hay cosas más divertidas. Todo un mundo por descubrir: la caja de arena, el gato del vecino, las toallas... La vida de un minino está llena de alegrías y sorpresas. Y la de Chi, ¡aún más!”.
✍️ Cada vez que leo un tomo de Chi, me gusta más. No solo por las enseñanzas que deja respecto al cuidado y la vida de las mascotas, sino a la relación que se va forjando entre la familia y Chi, que pasa a ser un miembros más y no una simple mascota.
Me encanta que se compartan las cosas buenas y malas que puede llegar a hacer un gatito (y sobre todo bebé), pero también que hay que tomarlo con humor y enseñarle qué cosas si se pueden hacer dentro del hogar y qué cosas no.
Ya estoy guardando todos estos tomos para que cuando Olivia aprenda a leer pueda leerlos, y por el momento nosotros no tenemos una mascota pero espero que, pronto tengamos, un Dulce Chi en casa.
