When powerful cattle rancher and ex-soldier Mac Lucas hears that rustlers are nearby, his first thought is for the safety of his pretty, shy neighbor Abby Proudfoot and her father Ethan. But rustlers are not the only danger Abby has to contend with, and when she is hurt, Mac needs to step in fast to protect her from further harm.
Wary, Abby has always kept her distance from Mac, but this time he isn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer. Taken to his ranch for her own protection, she soon discovers that her heart is at as much risk as her body.
As the two fall in love, Abby is shocked to learn that Mac believes that good relationships should have rules – which should be reinforced with a firm hand. Can Abby accept that sometimes a thorough spanking is for her own good? And when she inadvertently puts both of their lives at risk, will she accept the consequences to save them both?
Part Two:
Mac and Abby are happily married, but there are problems looming. While Abby adores the physical side of their marriage, she struggles to trust Mac enough to share the intimacy of her thoughts and desires. When Mac realizes how much she’s hiding from him, he hopes that a good, hard spanking will teach her how to trust. But to his dismay he discovers that it will take more than one session over his knee to teach her the family values she needs to learn. When Abby hides from him that she’s being threatened and sexually harassed, she finds herself in a situation where her life is once again in danger!
For neither the first nor the last time, I have to wonder how much editing Blushing Books actually does given that this Western written by a British author is filled with, well, Angloisms.
LEARNING TO COMPLETELY TRUST I found this to be a well written sweet, love story, with lots of emotions, including pain and heartache. Abby Proudfoot must deal with a dying father, who because of his cancer, does things that he would normally have never done. She was raised by her father with a very shelter lifestyle. Mac Lucas has returned to his ranch that has been run by longtime family friends, Jeb, and Calla. The plot kept me captivated as Abby and Mac cope first with her dying father, him helping her with their farm animals and helping Abby realize that he is first a friend and that he has feelings for her. This book is broke down into two part, the first is their renewed acquaintance, a growing relationship, and dealing with the final stages of her father's cancer and death. The second is their marriage and Abby learning to be open and honest with Mac. She is naive, shy, and does not want him to think bad of her and fears initiating sexual play. Both Mac and Abby have a lot to learn about each other, learn an open and honest dialog and most of all trust. They agree before marriage that it will be a domestic discipline marriage and there are several spankings, mostly initiated by Abby for absolution of guilt. The sex scenes are mild and many times only implied. This story also deals with sexual harassment and sexual assault. How the perpetrator tries to make it look like the victim is guilty and asking for it. Never is sexual assault acceptable. This story takes place in Wyoming, but the language is often UK style over American.
I have mixed feelings on this story. On one hand, the love that Abby and Mac feel for one another is definitely felt by the reader. But, I also had a few problems with some of the times that Mac spanked Abby.
Abby is a neighbor of Mac's. She has had feelings for him for several years but has kept them to herself. Mac comes to see Abby and her father about the rustlers in the area. Once there he realizes that the brain tumor Abby's dad suffers from has changed him and he has become violent. He takes Abby and her dad to his home to care for until the father dies. In the meantime, he and Abby fall in love and discuss the place spanking will have in their lives. The rustler situation gets taken care of and then we move to part 2 of the story. (II believe this is two novellas that have been put together.) In part 2, Abby and Mac start their life together and the problems that can occur in the beginning of a relationship start to manifest. Abby finds it difficult to confide her fears and desires about their sex life to Mac. And then later there is a serious situation with a co-worker who has threatened her.
I did enjoy this story, but I feel that the only reason Abby is getting spanked is to relieve her unnecessary guilt. She needs more of a spine and Mac needs to be spanked for spanking her just because she is anxious. But, it was an enjoyable read and you can feel the love between Abby and Mac. The author portrays that well! I give this 4 stars.
The trouble with reviewing this book is that I don't know where to start. You get to meet Abby a strong woman taking care of her ailing father as well as so much more piled on her slim shoulders. In walks Mac and all I can say about him is just, uh, (insert long simpering sigh here). I want one of him, please! Sweet, caring, intuitive, protective, dominant spanking male. I didn't just like reading about their story, I LOVED it. Enough that I've now read it three (and when I get done writing this review 4)times. The best part is that when you think you are going to get to "The End" there is more...All I possibly have left to say is now that I've become acquainted with Goldie Ledbury's writing, I'm already craving more. Gotta go see what else she's got out there (right after I finish reading "Teaching Abby" just one more time.
3 1/2 to 4 stars This was a 2 part novella. The first is how Abby finally gets help and Mac and Abby discover a mutual attraction. Mac was caring and he wants to help everyone, but especially Abby. There is a subplot of sexual abuse through both stories. Abby is shy and keeps to herself. Mac tries to draw her out. She is spanked to find out if she will accept Mac as a DD husband. Part 2 of the novella is after they are married. Abby discovers she has wanton needs. Although there are mild sexual scenes between husband and wife, there were no graphical explanations. Abby encounters a boss that is not what he seems. It has a happy ending. It was an interesting read. I did not feel that all of the spankings were justified, but they were done with love.
This book was about a young woman, Abby, and the young man who had been sweet on her for a long time. Mac was gentle and kind. Neither knows much about physical loving so they learn together.
Abby was the one asking for the spankings and Mac didn't want to spank ...he was tenderhearted even though he was the one who wanted to have spanking in the marriage. I wonder how much the writer knows of Wyoming, because a cosy, milk in tea, rotas, and some other things are British, not ranching in Wyoming. It took a bit from the flow but otherwise, I enjoyed this sweet story of young love as they learn to be married.
