The violent clash of Alien against Predator left the planet Ryushi a desolate wasteland. But now, years later, a mysterious alien beacon beams a distress signal from the supposedly abandoned world. When Colonial Marines from the Brilliant respond to the call for aid, they step neck deep into disaster! Written by original AVP writer Randy Stradley (AVP, Star Wars) and illustrated by Javier Saltares (Ghost Rider, X, Predator) and Jimmy Palmiotti (Catwoman, Daredevil), Aliens vs. Predator: Duel is the story sequel to the groundbreaking Aliens vs. Predator series that set the comics world on its ear!
It’s cool whenever comic books try to do something new. It’s also nice when a fresh injection of real humanity is applied. Aliens vs. Predator: Duel, is an OK attempt at both.
Bookending a story with an internalized frame can work. But, when there’s too much length between both ends, we can get lost where certain things happen. So this was a little more miss than hit.
On the other hand, there’s some real human emotion here. Believability, while not amazing at any level, suffices for the story at hand. We actually kinda care about our space-milite-protagonist. Kinda hit here.
Ultimately, it doesn’t attempt to be anything more than what it should be. And for that it deserves a lukewarm commendation. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less.
A short and sweet followup to the original Aliens Vs. Predator miniseries from Dark Horse. Some colonial marines return to Ryushi where they encounter more than they can handle including the first Xenomorph / Predator hybrid. The star here is Javier Saltares's art. I've been a fan of his since he relaunched Ghost Rider in the early 90s.
Here is another survival horror mashup between the two sci-fi franchises, Alien and Predator. His is a follow up to Stradley's original Aliens vs Predator comic. The difference between the two can be compared to the franchises. While the first arc had more of the tone and theme of an Aliens story, this one reminds me more of The world of Predator. This is the story of marines on a planet, encountering Predator aliens for the first time, and learning to respect them in battle.
Though not at all original, and an even simpler story than the first, it is told more consistently. It is still better than the films. Anyone who enjoys the first would likely also enjoy this one. I'd advise any reader not already a fan of either series to skip it.
I'm actually really happy to see what would have actually happened if an XT and Xeno cross-bred like in the AVP (2004) film ending and finally it somewhat resolved this curiosity! I do wish it was something similar to the Aliens Genocide (or which ever one had the red Xenos) where it would have been a battle royale between humans, XTs, Xenos, and hybrids. I also liked the ending where it is usually touched in every predator novel where the XTs have a mutual bond/understanding with the humans but somehow it comes to an end by the next issue (lol).

Short sweet little story. I found it entertaining and loved the art. Scratched that Alien itch I'd been having and now I definitely want to go read more. Nothing groundbreaking or new, but definitely a fun quick little read, especially if you are a fan of the franchise(s).
