"To think of myself as dead is a little disingenuous , as I really am alive. I just can't talk or intereact with the living, only the dying. So it goes."

Jack is wanted by the police for questioning on his wife's death. He spends time in his apartment watching the police pack his belonging up. He had some fun unpacking boxes that had already been packed to be moved to the crime lab. "I was about to lose everything I've ever owned and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it."

Hauser appears to get Jack back on track. He teaches him to use the rosary to foresee the near future with his marks, the park bench becomes Jacks home base.

Again excellent writing and the story and characters are expanding and getting more interesting.

Jack Duffy is back and learning more about his new job, a job which both fascinates and scares me. The author has done a great job with this story. If you haven't read the other books in the series you can read this one as a stand alone, I however suggest you grab all the books and then leave yourself some time to savor the unique, well written series. Paul B. Kohler never disappoints as he gives readers a well told story that will make you think and one that will remain with you long after the book is closed. I loved the storyline and where the author takes readers as we follow along!

Another love story, really? Is this a crossover to chic lit?
I think Jack’s having a case of Invasion of the Body Snatchers because his personality is completely different from the first two books. Not even subtle developing.
I’m still not sure about the soul collecting thing.
So are there like millions of soul collectors, because these people take forever to die. Again, I point this out because for a “thriller”, it’s slow action. Maybe he should have 2-3 boxes, so he can collect as he learns. The gang war doesn’t count.
Hausen is a strange fellow. He comes across being mysterious, but he just isn’t. For someone who has trained “dozens”, he is neither the snobby professor nor the bored genius ...
Very disappointed; I had such incredibly high hopes for this series! I was anxiously waiting for it to convert to audio 😔

In the first two books of the series I felt the pull. Now I am near hooked and intrigued. This one was one that almost had me in tears. And I have a feeling that Noah Clayton’s taking is going to be a hard one to get through for Jack. To the Author, keep them coming, Im finding my place here.

Jack begins his training with Hauser and learns about purifying souls using the ones he collected during a gang turf war. Jack then gets the honor of purifying the souls of an elderly couple who have been happily married for years. Written with heart and creativity this third book in the borrowed souls series brings the image of the grim reaper into a whole new light.
