Personal computers may have replaced the typewriter in most homes and offices, but the venerable writing machine is currently staging a comeback. From portable models that hipsters are snapping up in Urban Outfitters to Tom Hanks's bestselling app that recreates the manual experience on a tablet, the typewriter has never been so hot.
This celebration of the typewriter covers what a platen knob is, why QUERTY won out over other arrangements of keys, which authors loved (or loathed) their typewriters, and much more. A gift book with yellowed paper and typewriter fonts for a cool vintage look Timeline of the typewriter features key models Foreword by Paul Schweitzer of Gramercy Typewriter Co.
A brief but splendid little book about the history of typewriters! I certainly learned several things, and now I want to go sit down at one of my machines and write a story.
I learned a ton of information from this book that you won't find elsewhere. If you're here I'm sure youve probably seen Tom Hank's " California Typewriter" . If you have, know that I learned even more about typewriters from reading this book. So if you're a collector or enthusiast like me, give this a read. You won't regret it
A quick, fun read detailing the history of typewriters (at least it was fun for me). Topics ranged from the beginning typewriters to the development of the QWERTY keyboard to wartime efforts to current times. The images in the book really enhanced the information given.
As someone who had an electric typewriter as a teenager and took typing classes in high school, I found this interesting. It was informative and eye-catching with neat graphics and a typewriter font. Who knew reading about the history of the typewriter could be so fun?
A fun book you didn’t know you found an interest in reading. Good for lovers of literature and those who find history more interesting with things than dates .
