The Cloud Warrior Saga is a best-selling fantasy series. Get the first three books along with a bonus novella in this collection. An ancient artifact that must be found... Terrifying creatures from dark and dangerous Incendin... And long-forgotten elementals again unleashed on the world.
Chased by Fire (book 1) As an earth senser, Tan is tasked with helping guide the king’s servant through the dangerous mountain passes in search for the artifact before Incendin can reach it first. But after losing his father to the war, Tan wants nothing to do with the king’s demands. When everything he knows is lost, he is forced to risk himself to save the one person who can find the artifact, a beautiful girl who has lost as much as Tan. In doing so, power the world hasn’t seen in nearly a thousand years is awoken, and a warrior long thought dead returns to claim the artifact for himself.
Bound by Fire (book 2) The powerful draasin – elemental creatures of fire not seen for a thousand years – have returned. Not all are convinced they should have been freed.
As Tan struggles to learn earth shaping, he discovers dangerous fire shapers from Incendin have come to Ethea. When the city is attacked by the draasin, Tan must use his connection with them to learn why. Doing so leads him from the city and forces him to once more face the terrible shapers of Incendin, but this time bound to the draasin for help. If he fails, much more than his life is at stake, for Incendin has stolen the artifact and plans to use its power for unknown destruction.
Changed by Fire (book 3) The archivists are defeated, but their plan was already set in place. A new lisincend has emerged, more dangerous than before. Incendin still possesses the powerful artifact. And a spirit shaping placed on the king must be released.
Tan has potential to be a warrior shaper—one who can shape all the elements—but shaping doesn’t work for him the same as with other shapers. While he struggles to control his new magic, his friends work to free the king from the spirit shaping. When this fails, a search for another who can help leads Tan to use an uncontrolled shaping, changing him into the one thing he fears the most.
Before he can save the kingdoms, he must save himself. Doing so takes him away from everyone—and everything—he knows. With his both friends and the draasin in danger, can Tan master his abilities in time to stop a decades old plan?
This is like avatar the last airbender, except not as cool.Just like in avatar different regions produce different sensors/shapers(benders), the fire nation wants to take over the world, and like avatar they never explain how fire does do well against the other elements when any of them should beat fire (earth can smother fire, air/wind can deprive fire of oxygen, and water can but fire out). The main character is a different kind of shaper but it isn't until book 3 when anyone attempts to teach him shaping. His father was an earth shaper, but only taught him earth sensing, his mother was an air shaper but taught him nothing, he traveled with a warrior(one who can shape all the elements) and again no attempt was made to teach him, and he travels with his spirit shaping girlfriend who doesn't try to teach him (he even attended the university where they teach shaping and nothing was taught to him, and later he saved several shapers and traveled with them for weeks and no attempt was made to teach him). I will not be reading the rest of this series, too frustrating.
Nice way to pass the time I am going to buy the other books. Only one problem I can't tell you how any times the author repeated a phase you will what mean when you read it cut for that I like it
I have read soo many of D.K. Holmberg's books! Each and every one are exciting and I easily fall into the storyline every single time!
The Cloud Warrior Saga is no exception. The characters are believable and fully formed. They have so much heart and are such good people through and through. I most definitely recommend this series or ANY by D.K. Holmberg! For anyone who likes a story that grabs you and won't let go even at the end... who likes a story with ups and downs then ups again... who likes a story set in a world of fantasy and magic and power... look no further. This is it!!
It is a story of a young man who doesn't think much of the power he has. He finds himself helping a king he's not sure he wants to help. Along the way there is so much tragedy he and others endure that he is compelled to help when and where he can. He strives to protect those he cares for and doing the right thing. Meanwhile he opposes what is wrong and those that seek to hurt or use others. All the while he grows stronger with his power. He loses family, friends, his home, and almost his very life, yet gains new relationships, strength, and awareness. He encounters new things and abilities no one has seen since ancient times, as well as creatures everyone thought were long gone. Towards the end of book 3 he realizes that he IS special and has great power. But it doesn't end there, the saga continues as do I. 😁
This magical adventure story let you go to places you can imagine in your wildest dreams. As I read, I found it striking that some of the word plays in the book, like ara (air) and Incendin(incineration) for the fire elements. And Tan for tenacity , because even though he feels like home in the trees and the forest, and he doesn't think highly of himself as a weak Earth senser. The story takes flight when his home is destroyed and only now his power is slowly waking up because of the constant danger he is in. He also meets Amia who strengthens him in his journey no other could. Only when they unleash a greater fire element, slowly the plot is unfolding into something that took me by surprise on the end of this magical three book story. This is a story I definitely want to read again and also read the next books of this great adventure.
The books were great. The stories are about different kids going to the school for shapeshifters. Some could since different elements but didn't believe that they could do anything else. The king had sent his first warrior on a secret quest to find a box that put together, made the user more powerful. But when he got back, the King was on his deathbed. He realized how the King was poisoned but circumstances made him flee for his life. There are elementals, shapeshifters, and people who have twisted their bodies into fire elementals that are trying to be the strongest element and ruler.
I really liked the premise and the characters however...I must agree with previous readers....these books could have benefitted from more editing .....really hard to follow in some places....I only hope I "followed" correctly. I have often thought that authors should pick someone off the street to read the book before publishing...just to pick out the problems. The person writing the book "sees" the book (reads) as he intends which is not necessarily what is on the page. This effort shows real promise though.
D.K. Holmberg gifted this box set out during Christmas. Start book 1 and feel yourself get drawn into this story of magic and elementals. The story gets more exciting as you (and the characters) progress. The magic system is unique and the world is well built. Some phrases were used to many times in certain situations but all in all a good read, great story.
This is my second time reading these books and I'd forgotten just how great these books are. I started them again as a refresher for the new series set 1000 years after this series. Author does a great job growing these characters and the scenery doesn't disappoint!
Ingesting concept of elementals and how they are NOT unchanging over time. Not sure what to make of the character development here, the protagonist is constantly questioning their abilities but also seem to live too much in their own minds as much as they interact with others around them; a little better balance might the books easier to read?
A very good series even if it begins with the commonly used theme of boy leaves village and becomes the most powerful mage, etc etc. the characters are good, the plot is engaging, and the kingdoms are well developed. Reminiscent of the Wheel of Time series, it nevertheless stands on its own as a must read fantasy series. Recommended.
I enjoyed the first three books of The Cloud Warrior Saga, there was good character and world building. There are some grammatical errors and missing text in the books, which I have left notations of. Hopefully, the author will have someone proofread and correct the mistakes.
I really enjoyed Books 1-3. It was really easy to get into the main characters. The book is filled with excitement, romance, and unending action. I can not wait to read Books 4-7.
Perfect escapism, a nice balance of characters in what feels like a fairly standard good vs evil plot, with enough twists to keep it fresh and flowing . Nice take on magic using the elements
The series flows very well. The characters are enjoyable and you feel yourself being pulled into their world. This is the first series I have read by this author but I will read as many as I can find from now on.
full character development with twists and turns every step of the way. always has you wanting more. Another awesome series to capture and enthrall, and I am looking forward to it. Thanks DK Holmberg
Another great series from D. K. Holmberg. The characters are well written and have been thought out in their interactions along the plot line. Never been disappointed by this author!
So much more than expected. Three book series held my attention, couldn't put it down. The characters are interesting and unique can't wait to read more
