Best:: රන්කරඩුව- බටුවන්ගල රාහුල හිමි Rankaranduwa (the golden casket)- by Batuwangala Rahula thero ——This is a fictional religious novel, that had won 2015 ‘Swarna Pusthaka’ – Sri Lanka’s richest literary prize. This story revolves around a Sri Lankan monk who’s on a pilgrim tour to Buddhagaya; Buddhagaya also known as Bodh Gaya, a village in the northeast Indian state of Bihar and Considered one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites.—-The story has written with a very deep buddhist teachings related to Abhidharma or Abhidhamma, are ancient Buddhist texts which contain detailed scholastic reworkings of doctrinal material appearing in the Buddhist sutras, according to schematic classifications. Someone with a good understanding about buddhist teaching and theories can understand the very meaning of the story. For me the first few chapters felt like ‘this is a story about a monk who’s suffering from depression and who’s always seeing hallucinations’. This monk started seeing series of events that had happened during the Gautama Buddha’s era. Then he started to talking and having conversation with Arhat Monks from Buddha’s era. One Arhat monk from the first five Arhat monks of buddhist history came towards this sri lankan monk and hands him over a golden casket. He was advised to take this holy golden casket to sri lanka and placed it at Sri Daladha maligawa Kandy; Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. According to Theravada Buddhism Arhat is the one who has gained insight into the true nature of existence and has achieved nirvana, there’s no birth again. This sometimes confused me while reading the chapters which mentions about past buddha era Arhats comes to him like in a dream and gives him advises . However by the final chapters I’ve realised the author want the reader to understand the hardships of life as a buddhist monk, deep buddhist teachings and the very purpose of human life. — #buddhistbooks #sinhalabooks #AmReading #srilankanbookblogger #BookLover #bookblogging #Bibliophile #BookAddict #bookchat #bookphotography #bookcommunity#WhatToRead #bookpassion #srilankanbooks.
