this was a fast read it wasnt a carzy off the wall kinda book. more of a kidnaped in the woods kinda book. alex, a cop and his wife, jenny move to Virgina from California to get away from the city life and live in the country with fresh air, trees and privacy. they never imagined that this small town they wanted so badly to get away to would the reason they would never want to see the woods again. not long after they move in to their new country home and alex settled in to his position at the county jail as a officer, he gos missing. in plain day the empty cop car was found with one in site and no witness along the long abandoned road. not happy with how the chief is handling things jenny starts her long journey to find the truth and hopefully alex along with it. as unsafe as the city life has proven to be the country is out right deadly.

this is a wonderful book to read, being a Virginian myself ,I love to divulge in Backwoods horror. I live on the outskirts of West Virginia and I can attest firsthand that the people do speak in the way that is written in this book. Spooky, thrilling, and mysterious. I had to put the book down at times where the excitement for me was too much!

I found this book used on a dusty shelf in an old book store well over 10 years and gave it a try. I'm glad I did because it is one of my favorite books eve. I've read it many times and will always recommend it to anyone that enjoys this kind of book. What kind of book is it? I've heard it described as Backwoods Horror and that fits the bill. This book is NOT for young readers, it has a lot of four language, sexual violence, and detailed gore.

Quick rundown since I don't see an official one. A new cop in a small town in the backwoods of West Virginia has a run-in with some mountain people, kidnapped and forced to help run an illegal moonshine operation. Horrible shenanigans occur that you wouldn't believe. The latter half of the books slows down a bit as the author suddenly includes a subplot of the wife trying to find her husband which isn't very interesting. But it picks up back at the end. This book is not for everyone. You probably won't even like it. But I love it and I am sure I will read it many more times in the future.
