This was a general let down... Maybe nOt much should have been expected from this dated piece, but not all dated romances are bad - in fact, I adore some! Not this one though.
While too much time was spent on the hero/heroine's relationship, I still felt that the story was shallow. The author just didn't know where to go with their story and kept creating needless conflicts between them to prolong the book!
The problems between Logan and Dani started 10 years ago , when (straight out of high school) they eloped, but got caught by her (rich) parents and forcefully separated. Dani was an 18-year-old pushover and couldn't stand up to her parents, who didn't want her marrying a poor farm-boy... And Logan never got over this or her, and held a grudge for the next 10 years. In the meantime, he became (of course) rich and successful!
Dani now leads a nonprofit organization in DAllas, which helps special needs children and she needs a piece of land (which, of course belongs to Logan) back in her small home town, where she wants to open up a summer camp.
Their conflict needlessly starts as Dani returns to her home town under pretenses that she is there for their high school reunion, where in reality she wants to convince Logan to sell her that camp land. They start hooking up and by the time she tells him why she is really there, he gets a poor opinion of her (like she is trying to sleep with him in order to get that land from him). Couldn't have Dani simply asked him to sell her the land right away? Couldn't she have been honest and told him that's what she came for?! This way - yes - she did come off as a slut , willing to sleep with him to get what she wants! He even comes up with ludicrous contract that she agrees to!!! I mean, seriously?!?!?! They couldn't discuss this project like two adult business people, they had to have a "sex contract" involved?! And what normal woman would agree to this?!
Regardless of this contract, they don't have sex until 20 pages before the end of the book... Instead they play cat and mouse games with each other throughout! Utterly frustrating! (But I guess since the book is dated, casual sex was not ok?! They had to be planning a wedding to be able to finally have sex?!?!?!)
Finally, when everything seemed to have been resolved and they professed their love for each other - a new drama erupts! I don't understand what was wrong with those two! They are both single and available, and love each other, so what the hell is the problem?! Be together or don't, it was entirely up to them, I don't see why she had to blame her charity work and why she had to make it so difficult! He asked her to marry him and she rejected him because her work is just too important?! HE didn't quite agree, he wanted her to chose him... What i didn't get was why was she making this situation so difficult, why did she think she had to chose?! The reason she had to stay away from him made no sense! She can't do both?! Like other married women who both work and have husbands?! Obviously in the end, when he (the jack-ass) realizes just how important her work is, she decides that - ok, sure, she can do both, she will even commute from the small town to Dallas - no problem! Wow - so if it was as simple as that, why was this book not over 100 pages ago?!??!?!?!
