This ARC kindly provided by NetGalley on behalf of the publishers.

my boy is going to LOVE this book!! he loves Grover's the monster at the end of this book, and this one is similar in the way the reader and character interact.
Tom speaks directly to the reader, and you "affect" his attempts at catching Jerry by doing the things he asks you to do. each of these actions & results are going to give both you & your child lots of giggles!

lots of fun!

This is a Tom & Jerry book reminiscent of There's a Monster at the End of This Book with Sesame Street's Grover (one of my favorite Sesame Street books).

It's a fun book, so cute, but I would have liked to see it longer i.e. a few more ways for Tom to get the reader involved with catching Jerry.

I shared this with some toddlers and they got a real kick out of shaking the iPad and taking part in this book. :)

Note: I received this from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Tom and Jerry are always fun (even though I am old school and still think they should not talk.) They try to add elements similar to "Press Here" but they do not work as well as they should. I think this title will be more fun in print then it is digital, but we shall see.

I like Tom and Jerry and the art is fun but also it's like directly a rip of The Monster at the End of This Book to the point I hope they get residuals or something. Have some shame.

I think a 2-4 year old would love the hands-on fun with this book. There is shaking, turning pages quickly, blowing and even snapping the book close quickly in this tale.

What a great, cute book!

There's a Mouse Hiding in the Book is an inter-active book, in which the reader/listener has to turn pages quickly or slowly, blow on the pages, or even shake the book, depending on what the primary character is asking the reader to do. This would have been a huge favorite, had I had this when my children were young. It could be any characters, of course, but with a little marketing gimmick, there becomes a nice tie-in with the popular Tom & Jerry cartoon figures. My only question ... can you still find Tom & Jerry cartoons?  Will children recognize these rascally figures?

I read this ARC on my kindle, and I'm not sure I would want to hand my electronic device over to a toddler to shake and punch.  However, putting an actual book in their hands, and watching them gleefully go through it, would be a true delight.

The artwork is bold, bright, and very appropriate for the intended audience.

Looking for a good book?  If you're a parent, grand-parent, or care-giver, you can expect that There's a Mouse Hiding in This Book will be a much-loved book for your aspiring readers!

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

This Tom and Jerry interactive picture book holds a surprise on each page! Where is Jerry hiding? On the title page, on the back cover, or somewhere in between? Little readers will howl with delight each time they open the covers and try helping Tom find the mischievous mouse. Perfect for storytime.

A light, quirky "meta-fictional" picture book series using the well known, timeless characters of Tom and Jerry. Young readers will whoop with delight at the story and artwork, but parents and caregivers will also appreciate the humorous and gentle introduction to the process of reading and the parts of the book.

REVIEW:

Classic Tom & Jerry mischief still loved by children. My 8 year old son and I read this book together tonight. He was very entertained and laughed many times through out the mischief Tom and Jerry cause each other.

I like the bright illustrations in the book and live how one page leads to the other making the reader a part if the story with directions like "Shake the book, turn the page more slowly" etc. The book would have been best for younger children, but even an 8 year old thought it was a fun and funny concept.

It seems that generation after generation loves Tom, Jerry, & the never ending chase.

There's a Mouse Hiding in This Book! is an interactive picturebook written by Benjamin Bird and illustrated by Carmen Pérez. It features Tom and Jerry and is currently scheduled for release on August 1 2014. On each page Tom and the reader are challenged to find Jerry. Is he on the title page, on the back cover, or somewhere in between? Readers that know and love the characters, and those who have never been introduced to the cat and mouse team, will be delighted to help Tom find the mischievous mouse. Perfect for storytime.

There's a Mouse Hiding in This Book! is a book that makes me think of my favorite picturebook when i was little, There's a Monster at the End of this Book. Young readers and their caregivers can find something to appreciate in this interactive story. the book is a great way to get younger readers excited about books and keep them entertained.

I would recommend There's a Mouse Hiding in This Book! for one on one sharing or for storytimes. The story might not be incredibly unique, but it is great fun.

This book will be a bit of nostalgia for parents and grandparents, bringing back those cartoons we watched after school (before there were cable channels). Tom chases Jerry through the entire book, with classic mishaps along the way such as angering a large dog or getting his tail caught in a mousetrap. The inky footprints Jerry leaves behind are reminiscent of the Pink Panther leaving a trail for Inspector Clouseau, either in the movie credits or in their own Saturday morning show. Tom's directions to the reader create an added layer of interaction with the book as he urges us to turn the page, shake the book, etc. to help him catch Jerry.

With the success of similar books such as Tap the Magic Tree and Don't Push the Button, this approach to picture books has proven its charm. This new addition to the group will provide a fun time for kids and adults alike.

I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.

"Look. That no-good mouse Jerry is ruining my book." Come on, help me catch him." That invitation is a call to action to anyone reading the book. The messy, wet, blue paint footprints left by Jerry, the mouse is ruining Tom's book and ruining his fen shway. This hysterically funny book will have kids engaged in the capture of the pesky rodent and have them wanting more and more. The colourful word bubbles are filled with instructions to aid the kids in the tracking and apprehension of the little mouse: count to three and turn the page as fast as you can, shut your eyes and listen closely, turn the page slowly, shake the book, blow on the page and so on. The concept is simple and the illustrations are packed full of antics and expressions that will certainly appeal to the young readers. This interactive book has a wonderful surprise on each page and is perfect for story time.

Haha! This book was truly hilarious! In a nutshell, this book is about Tom trying to capture, once again, Jerry the Mouse. This little story is compiled of several pictures and commands given by Tom that makes you think you are actually interacting with the book! Imagine that! I have always been a fan of "Tom and Jerry" and seeing this book brought me back to a simpler time. One tiny thing I didn't like

Highly recommend it! (/I>(Quick side note; I was reading this book on the computer and I found myself shaking it and blowing on it! It is that engaging)

Great job! Read, Live, and Imagine ;)

This was great for a little reader! This was interactive for my daughter-count before turning the page, turn the page sloooowly, shake the book… She made me read it 4 times in a row! Tom is chasing Jerry through his book and asks the reader for help. Even not knowing who Tom & Jerry are my 3 1/2 year old enjoyed this.

As a parent this was a cute flashback to Tom & Jerry. I love reading books with Babycakes that get her active and talking back to the characters.

4 stars!

Thank you NetGalley and Capstone Young Readers for this advance read copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

Referred to as a meta-fictional picture book, this interactive story features our old cartoon buddies Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse. Jerry is hiding in the book and making quite a mess for poor old Tom. Tom asks the reader for help moving through the pages of the book sometimes quickly to avoid a dog attack and other times slowly to prevent setting off mouse traps.

I have been a fan of Tom and Jerry cartoons for many years so I liked it. I would have liked to have seen more interactions with the reader maybe Jerry was nibbling on some cheese and we have to smell it or Tom gets tangled up and we have to wiggle out. Otherwise, it's cute.

The artwork contained within this book is simple, cheerful, and colorful and include a few easy tasks that will aid children in learning how to follow directions and make reading time fun. The tasks themselves are entertaining; there are just enough of them to keep things interesting, but not too many that kids will get bored. Personally, I think it's worth buying this book in print form rather than digital. In all, a cute interactive book starring the famous furry duo that will amuse children and parents alike.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Even as a kid I was not a huge Tom & Jerry fan. I have a low threshold for slapstick humor plus it just all seemed mean-spirited to me. I'm also wary of TV cartoon-to-picture book vehicles. But this book is quite fun and while there are many interactive picture books on the market now this one holds its own. The illustrations are bold and stay true to the original cartoon artwork. As I read it (netgalley ebook version) I could imagine my nephews howling with laughter and I look forward to reading it with them!

This is a cute book featuring Tom and Jerry (who I loved watching on cartoons as a child!). There's a good bit of interaction with the child, so that was good. However, it seemed really similar to another book I read as a child, There's a Monster at the End of This Book. [3 stars]

I was excited by the concept of this book, but wound up being a bit disappointed by the length. Although it's a typical picture book length of 30 pages, it feels too short. (Probably because there's not much text on each pages and the illustrations are not very elaborate.)

That being said, it is still a funny interactive book that kids will get a kick out of.

Note: I received a digital galley of this book through NetGalley.

There's a Mouse Hiding in This Book! is written in the same vein as my all-time favorite children's book: There's a Monster at the End of This Book!. Instead of a Sesame Street character, this book features the well-loved characters Tom and Jerry. The simple artwork and funny antics throughout the book will provide lots of fun and enjoyment to children everywhere. My son and I loved sharing the story today during our reading time.

An incredibly fun read, that kids will not only want to read but to enact as well. Great book to get children to move to especially younger children, who don't sit still well or at all. The bright, crisp pages and pictures are perfect and rather minimalist but they allow for larger characters and text. Looks to be a perfect story time book.
