I needed more

I m a lil disappointed after how the second book finished I thought this book was goin 2 b so good an it did start well the first few chapters were goin well then it was just Ashleigh askin Luke to give her time cause he needed it I didn't understand how she kept telling him what he needed when she wanted to b with him Ye I know she wanted to know that he luvd her just as much as she did him but come on people like Fiona an Richard are getting pulled along with them an that's not ok

I m actually not really bothered about the third book but I will read it just to c how it ends I like the first few chapters an the last 2 that's the reason for 2 stars or I would of fave it 1 so I m hopin there is hope for the third book I don't really have much else to say sorry xxx

3 stars!***

In the second instalement of the series Ashleigh and Luke face troubles. They might have hooked up and everything might seem perfect, but it's so very far from it.

Ash has doubts, many of them.. She' afraid that she's just Luke's rebound girl (which is understandable, he just broke up with his ex and suddenly he's all about Ash.. weird, isn't it?). So she "breaks up" with him and tells him to go back to her after he's sure that she's it for him.

Understandable. Because if they did get together and he decided he's not really into her it's break them all up. Ash's BFF was Luke's sister and they were all childhood friends so if they broke up it'd be bad bad bad.

She tells him to go and date and do whatever he wants.. And he does as she says. Mostly.

The second part was frustrating. Ash was so afraid of what would happened if they broke up that she forgot to even think about how it'd be if they never did.

And it took Luke months!! to realize that he should do something to prove that he's moved on and fight for her.

I'm glad it was short, because if it was longer I'd give it lot less stars and I'd probably fall asleep reading it. That being said I'm looking forward to the last part because I have feeling that that's where the magic will happen.

Once again, Louise Bay's writing held me enthralled with this story. In this second book of the series, Ashleigh asks Luke to give himself a chance to live outside of a relationship and in the end hopes he will choose her. I understood her logic while at the same time I wanted to shake the sh*t out of her.

Ash really annoyed the crap out of me. I liked her, don't get me wrong, but I was annoyed because she was putting all the insecurity she had on Luke. I just didn't think it was fair. I got why, but Luke couldn't prove his feelings if he couldn't show his feelings. Make sense?

I felt extremely awkward with regards to Luke and Fiona. WTH?! I didn't like how far things progressed with them. I didn't like bearing witness to his attraction to her. And then he encouraged a friendship with her??? Yeah, I hope he's okay with Ashleigh remaining friends with Richard.

Overall, another enjoyable read and I wonder what is in store for the conclusion in book 3. Enjoy! xo

book 2 in Trilogy and devoured it

Had me completely on edge. I love the main characters Ashleigh and Luke and other characters Jake and Haven, I like the bond they all have. I'm definitely going to read Jake and Havens story following this book.

At times I wanted to shake Ash it's one of those teasing reads were you are led on from the start, desperately want the couple to work it out, get it on and be happy you know it's going to happen and desperately want to get to the when part. Ash & Luke are so right for each other but Ashley is so stubborn in this book.

It frustrated me, annoyed me, tested my patience but I loved it and I am really looking forward to the last instalment.

Recommended read for those who like taking a hot, romantic frustrating rollercoaster ride.

This review is for the Calling Me series as a whole.
Individual ratings for each book:
Calling Me Back 4 stars
Calling Me Away 2.5 stars
Calling Me Home DNR

Calling Me is the story of friends turned lovers Ashleigh and Luke. Ash has been in love with Luke for over 15 years, but Luke has only ever seen her as his little sister's best friend. After being newly single, Luke finds himself suddenly feeling jealous over Ashleigh's current boyfriend and he's not sure what to make of this new attraction.

I really loved the aspect of them being such a tight-knit group! The idea of knowing that no matter what went on during the week there was always Sunday dinner with family to look forward to, it was something I could really relate to and I think the author did a fantastic job at portraying it. In most friends-to-lovers relationships, the problem is what happens when things don't work out and you end up losing a friend. In this Calling Me series, that feeling of fear is multiplied because these two know it will change the dynamic of the entire group. With this in mind, Ashleigh is forced to put her feelings aside until she feels Luke is truly wanting to be with her and not just living in the moment.

My problem with this one story being turned into three novellas is that it really made the story itself drag. The novellas had to be long enough to actually be a thing, but I think that only caused for a lot of unnecessary chapters. I honestly think I would have enjoyed this more as just 1 average length book. It would've been shorter, but would have packed a better punch. I really enjoyed Calling Me Back. Sadly, Calling Me Away felt so draining that I didn't care to even bother reading Calling Me Home.

***Minor spoilers***

Ash is struggling to trust that Luke really wants her or if she's just convenient to him. They go their separate ways for a while to see how it goes, because she wants to see if after he lives his life and dates a little, if he still really wants her. She's trying her best to wait for him to choose, but she's not sure she can resist the temptation when she's with him.

I rated this one only slightly higher than the last one because I enjoyed the last 2 or so chapters. The rest of it I found quite annoying. Ash constantly kept acting like she was the one who got to decide when Luke was ready to choose, even though Luke kept telling her that he was ready for her. She kept acting like it was him she was waiting for, when it was really that she was trying to find it within HERSELF to trust him. She also told him to live his life and seemed to get irritated that he wasn't with her as much. I don't really understand her. The good news is that they finally got together by the end of this one, so hopefully the last installment will be full of sappy romance scenes.

Overall, this was slightly better than the last one but I'm still not feeling it with this series. Once I finish the third book I'll be writing a longer review that encompasses the whole series since all 3 installments came in one book for me.

Oh. My. God. This book had me feeling all sorts of feels some not great and others a pile of mush. First off Ash and Luke weren't a couple through most of it and did this dance of insecurities through most of it and I about cried of frustration! It was irritating, sure it's what is true and real for a lot of couples but damnit I wanted them to get together already and be cute and happy!! The character growth was a bit wobbly for me in this one, but it's was do able for the length of the book. Again I love that is like a novella so you can easily lounge around and read a short quick read. It's not a standalone but three novellas linked to one story so I highly suggest you read all three for the full effect. Loving it and can't wait to start the next one. 4 stars.

This is the second instalment of The Calling Me Series featuring Ashleigh and Luke, the side characters from What The Lightning Sees. It was always going to be full of angst because of where the first segment left me wondering. What I wasn’t expecting is the sizzling hotness I read at the beginning. Wow, a cold shower was required as Louise certainly knows how to write a very steamy scene!

Ashleigh has been in love with Luke since they were children but after Luke came out of a long term relationship, she questions herself as to whether he is on a rebound. He'd never indicated he felt more for her or reciprocated in any way at all.

Quote: Ashleigh ~ “No, it’s too much; it’s too good. I’m close, too soon.”
Luke ~ “I want to stay inside you forever.”

I felt like smacking my Kindle over Ashleigh and Luke’s heads as I was convinced from the start they belonged together. However, as I read on, I realised that their story had been cleverly construed. I love it when I have to make mental notes about how the plot is going to develop and I most certainly had to have my wits about me in this read. Were they committed to trying a relationship or just the fantasy of it? A self-discovery of their feelings and learning how to cope with them was a pleasure to read. Ashleigh especially made me doubt it all. And Luke? Proving to himself that he wanted more than a friendship wouldn't be easy as there was also the possibility of dating others. Of course, I thought that this detail would be a stumbling block for both of them.

Quote: Luke ~ “Fiona and I went out a few times.”
Ashleigh ~ “You like her?”
Luke ~ “She’s a great girl but she’s not you. I don’t feel this,” “with her.”

This segment of the series was brilliantly written and I was urging Ashleigh and Luke to see some sense. Well, throughout their story, actually. I do love a friends to lovers book. It always seems so much more intense and the angst I had was probably due to the characters wanting to justify their true love. Not just a glorified friendship. Ashleigh and Luke have an amazing chemistry and even with all the twists and turns, there is no getting away from the fact their amorous journey had me enthralled.

Quote: Ashleigh ~ “I want this to happen and you have to admit that it is complicated because of our history and what’s at stake.”
Luke ~ “But nothing we can’t handle. We got this. You have to trust me.”

It is amazing how Louise can conjure up some pretty interesting characters, and I cannot stress enough how refreshing it is to see how a story can be developed from back story characters. Not all authors can do this. And although it had been done before, my point is this. Ms Bay is a genius storyteller. Her talent and interesting 'imagination' kept me glued to the book. I would highly recommend reading Louise's work but The Calling Me Series has to be right up high in my estimation of the ultimate erotic reading material. Romance, hotness, angst... it has everything. In the words of a playlist track, 'Say You Love Me'.

Holy Cow!!! Louise, you amaze me!!

This time I ached, like physically my heart hurt, for Ashleigh's struggles. She wants Luke, desperately, but she stays true to plan. Gotta love a girl with conviction.

Luke, for his part, is trying to do what Ashleigh asked of him. To live his life, find out what he likes and what he wants. A moment to grow into himself as a single man after so many years in a relationship. And he does. He finds a habit that interests him and makes a new friend in the process. Even goes on a date with a new girl.

So has he moved on from Ashleigh or is his heart true? Is there a way to finally be together? Or, say it isn't so, has Ashleigh moved on?

Wow! Wow! Wow!

I almost began to question Ashleigh and Louise. It was killing me to see Luke move on and Ashleigh suffer. And I since I knew there would a cliffhanger, I was scared of how things would end up. But wow!! I really loved Luke's declaration. Total swoon moment.

So now what? How can they begin anew? And at a slow pace?

I think this is quickly becoming my favorite couple. They've been through a lot in the past few months that have completely changed their life. Where will this take them? How will it change them? I can't wait to find out.

Calling Me Away is part 2 of Louise Bay's new 3 part novella series. At the end of part one we saw Ashleigh start to have doubts about her relationship with Luke, was he just on the rebound after splitting with Emma, had they jumped in to fast, after all these years she had been in love with Luke was she really the one he wanted to be with and could she trust him with her heart? these are the questions she needed answering.

In Calling me Away Ashleigh is really confused, more than anything she wants to be with Luke but finds it hard to trust what he's saying to her, but is it her own fears lingering. Luke and Haven are the only real family she has now and she's so scared she will lose them but by putting up this barrier and wanting Luke to live the single life, even date other people will she lose her one true love?

As always with Louise it's another 5 star read. I love the connection you feel to her characters and you just hope they will get their HEA. I can't wait to read the conclusion to Luke and
Ashleigh's story.

The continuation of Luke and Ashleigh's story....
Whew... what an emotional roller coaster! While I can understand Ashleigh's point of view, my heart just ached for the both of them. At points in the story, I was screaming in my head (Oh no, you can't do that!) and (What is he/she thinking?). Ashleigh is one very strong woman and she sticks to her guns, all while going through turmoil but she is hoping for the best in the end. Luke is distraught over Ashleigh's decision, but eventually he understands where she is coming from. So, he sets out and is determined to do everything he can to prove to Ashleigh that she is who he wants, forever! There are some bumps in the road, which makes things all the more intriguing but the heart wants what the heart wants!

Wishes do come true

Calling Me Away is the second book in The Calling Me series and continues the story of Luke and Ashleigh. When Ash finally gets what she's always wanted she's haunted by the whole 'true good to be true' vibe. No one wants to be 'convenient' not when their heart is on the line. Looking forward to the next instalment.

This one is my favorite out of the Calling Me series. I love how Luke goes away and lives for himself. Lives to prove to Ash that he is the right man for her. It tears me apart that they are not together, but I get why Ash needs to know that Luke is really in love with her. A beautiful story written beautifully.

✯✯5 Questionable Stars!!!✯✯

I couldn't wait to read this. Louise Bay has a way with her novella series's. She can pack in enough juicy stuff and then leave you speechless. This series was no different then her previous ones. Luke just keeps getting finer and finer.

Just when I thought Ashleigh and Luke were going to start their HEA they had to go and speak to Haven. Haven is not ecstatic happy. She's feeling that it's all too fast. Luke literally legit just broke up with Emma. Ashleigh has been in love with him her whole life. Haven doesn't want them rushing into it to realize it's not what's best for them and their family be torn apart.

Ashleigh realizes that Haven is right. She decides to put a hold on them. Ashleigh wants Luke to make sure he's over Emma and not just doing the whole rebound thing. Ashleigh tells him to do things for himself. Get a new job, new hobby, hell even date if that what it takes for him to make sure he's 100% sure.

Luke is beyond devastated. He knows he can't explain it but since their first kiss, his eyes and heart are open. For most of his life she was known to him as Ash. But, since that kiss she's Ashleigh the woman he loves and plans on spending the rest of his life wife. Luke will do whatever it takes to prove to Ashleigh he is serious about her. Luke gets a new place of his own. He picked it out for him and by what he likes and not anyone else. Which he's never done. He's also gotten a new hobby. Luke has decided to start training for a triathlon. Since he's new to it Fiona who works at his job has offered to help him.

Both Luke and Ashleigh start getting into their own routines. They miss each other horribly but are afraid to call the other one in case not enough time has passed. After an awkward Sunday family dinner things start to change. Sunday dinners come to a stop. Not even realizing it. Luke knows how close Haven and Ashleigh are and Ashleigh won't get in the middle of Haven and Luke.

Luke continues to train for the triathlon while he's casually dating Fiona. Even though everything's compared to Ashleigh. Ashleigh on the other hand is trying to better herself and get into a school program to advance in her career. While hanging out with Richard. Yes, you read that. They're strictly in the friend zone even though Richard has put his feelings out there. Both are hoping it'll pass and they can go back to each other. But, can one pull their head outta their ass before the other one moves on?

I absolutely love this series. I love Ashleigh, Luke, Haven, Jake and Beth. They all have such an awesome relationships. Even Jake sister Beth fits into this crazy group perfect. Haven did an excellent job at not picking sides between the 2 people that mean the most to her. The bromance between Luke and Jake always has me rolling. The brother/sister relationship with Haven and Luke reminds me of my brother and me. They're awesome characters to fall in love with.

There was multiple times I wanted to knock sense into Ashleigh. I 100% got and understood where she was coming from. But, you can't get upset and jealous when somebody is doing the thing you told them to do. Luke is the man any women would be lucky to get. Louise is doing an awesomely beautiful job with Luke and Ashleigh. I can not wait to read the final book.

Review by Jen Skewes
This is the 2nd installment in the Calling me series and the continuation of Luke and Ash's story. First I need to admit then when I read the first book it never dawned on me that this was Luke and Ash from What The Lightning sees. I am not sure how I missed that one. But the whole time while reading that series I could not wait for these two to get together. Between the flirting, the comfortability they felt with each other and how much Ash loved Luke I just needed more of them. And I am so happy that Ms bay if giving me what I needed. Even if this one caused knots in my stomach.

We start exactly where we left off. Luke has just ended a 3 year relationship with Emma and it now seems that him and Ash are taking their friendship to the next level. But as much as Luke wants her and as much and she has been in love with Luke for her whole life she wonders if he is just settling. If getting involved with him so quick after ending a long relationship will end up costing her her heart and her family in the end. She made a decision that pained both her and Luke as well as me. But I understood why she did it. Doesn't mean it didn't hurt because it did.

Luke and Ash need to live their life on their own to truly be able to see exactly what it is that they want. Yes Ash wants and loves Luke. But she needs to make sure he loves her the same. So taking a break is what they need. She wants Luke to live his life for him not for her. This is where my heart hurt for the two of them. I understand her decision but I still feel so bad for Luke. I never doubted his love for Ash or his reasons for being with her. But time away does wonders for someone's growth. And it was exactly what they needed.

This book brought out so many emotions. I was nervous. I'm not going to lie. I was afraid that these two would concentrate and finding out what they wanted and in the process would lose their chance at happiness, with each other. I felt like I was going through it all with them. I felt the hurt and pain. I felt the moments when they missed each other and how hard being a part from each other really was. But I also loved watching them figure it all out. I loved seeing Luke be his own person and really come to terms and understand what Ash was asking of him.

I always look forward to Louise Bay's serial as. And she does not disappoint with this one. I can't wait to see where these two go from here.

Calling Me Away by Louise Bay is the second book in her newest three-part series, Calling Me. This is the continuing story of Ash and Luke.

These two have been best friends for years. Ashleigh is Haven's best friend and Haven is Luke's sister. Ash has also been in love with Luke for almost as long as she can remember knowing him. Luke has been oblivious to this. In the last book we saw them connect, finally, and the surprise at the emotions they both had and the connection they both felt had each of them reacting in very different ways. Luke can't believe what he has missed all this time and can't wait to try and make up for that lost time. Ash, on the other hand, cannot believe that Luke's feelings can turn on a dime and worry that now she is just the easy choice after Luke's break-up with Emma.

What enfolds is a painful separation but also some realizations that sometimes you can push your boundaries and find yourself and not have to have another there holding your hand. But also that having someone can occasionally make it better or at least sweeter.

I'm a little worried at where this is going as all seems well in the world so what could possibly happen next???

Well, I eagerly dove into book 2 of this series. Book 1 ended in a happy place, but the title of this book scared me off a bit, I will admit. I was so happy to see Luke realize that Ash was always there, right under his nose. She has loved him since she was a little girl, but, up until now, he's only ever seen her as his sister's best friend.

Well, Luke is sure he and Ashleigh will work out, Ash, however, has her doubts. While I understand that, since his break-up with Emma was recent, I was frustrated that's she's been in love with him for so long and now is pushing him away. Throw her best friend Haven's opinion into the mix and it's a recipe for disaster in Ashleigh's mind.

"I think we have a really good thing going here. We all love each other. We're family and now you guys get pissed together and put all of that in jeopardy." She gave up stirring the pan and turned toward us. "Luke, you and Emma finished about five seconds ago and that was a serious, long-term thing. You can't just get over it in twenty-four hours," she said, pointing at Luke. "And you, you've loved this guy for forever, and I don't want him to break your heart."

I loved Luke's attitude. Even though he was frustrated that Ash wasn't sure and wanted them to have some space, he has a positive attitude and moves on with his life, doing things for himself.

This is another great read of this authors. She doesn't disappoint. I was very happy to have book 3 in my possession when I finished this to see where Luke and Ash's relationship was heading.

When Calling Me Back ended, Ashleigh was thinking that maybe she and Luke should take more time before trying to make a relationship work. She still felt that it was too soon after his breakup with Emma to get involved in another relationship. Luke disagreed but respected her wishes and was going to try and come up with some sort of plan to make her see she was it for him.

Luke begins by finding a new place to call home and then he decides to train for a triathlon. In doing this, he discovers he has something in common with a fellow lawyer, Fiona. Luke continues with Ashleigh’s advice and starts dating and they become close. But is it close enough for Luke to realize that what he thought he wanted with Ashleigh was just out of his need for things to stay comfortable?

I have to say Ashleigh frustrated me a bit in this book. She had what she has always wanted and then she goes and pushes him away. Even though I understand some of her reasoning and though process, I felt that she should have handled it differently. She is just worried that Luke’s feelings went from cold to hot so fast that they could go cold again and she would be left with nothing and no one.

In the end it was good for both of them to experience life without the other around as much to see what they truly wanted and desired for something more long term. They are such great friends having grown up together, that they honestly don’t want to lose that. Luke and Ashleigh just need time to decide if being together is worth the risk of having everything or losing it all.

Now that Ashleigh and Luke's relationship has taken a very different direction, things are starting to change. While Luke couldn't be more thrilled and sure that everything is just as it should be, Ash is in retreat and reconsider mode.

Let me be clear about this: I am in love with this series. I fall a little bit harder for Louise Bay's writing with each book of hers that I read. Luke has won my heart, and Ash, although she's making me crazy, makes me want to grab her and hug her and reassure her that everything will work out. If CALLING ME BACK was the build-up of the evolution of the relationship between Luke and Ash, CALLING ME AWAY is the dip, the sort of 'oh, my goodness, NOW what do we do?!' part of the story. It's that part that makes me, as a reader, feel all angsty and unsure, just wishing that these two could get back on the same page and get together already. With all of that said, though, this story just makes the anticipation of CALLING ME HOME, the third and final book in this series, that much sweeter. Getting to see more of Haven, Jake (who I am loving even more the more that I see of him), and Beth is an added bonus. 5 angsty, nail-biting, impatient yet hopeful stars for CALLING ME AWAY. Book 3 can't come soon enough!

Louise Bay left me hanging after Calling Me Back, but that’s pretty typical of her, so I’ve learned to expect it! It doesn’t stop me from reading the first book and torturing myself though. So, when I could read Calling Me Away, I was able to breathe a sign of relief. And, the cliffy on ths one isn’t bad, it just left me wanting more of Luck and Ashleigh.
I was pretty captivated through the first novella in this series, but the author almost lost me on this one. I grew to love Luke more with the turn of every page, to admire him, and drool over him. Panty-melting hot, that one.
I can’t say the same for Ahsleigh. Her reasons for taking a step back and away from each other for a while are valid in the beginning. But she takes it way too far in my opinion. For a while there, I despaired of her every getting over her own roadbloacks. She kept saying Luke had to choose her, but every time he tried, she wouldn’t let him. I was afraid she would create a self fulfilling prophecy, pushing Luke away until he had had enough and moved on.
It eventually becomes clear that after the beginning of their time apart, it became about Asheligh’s fears and insecurities, instead of Luke’s need to grow a little before stepping into a permanent relationship with her.
I had to have faith that the author wouldn’t let me down, so I kept reading, holding back my need to slap Ashleigh across the face so she would wake up and realize she was ruining the one thing she’d always wanted.

Oh man....
This book started off with undue drama. And I hated it! I wish the drama in this book could have been different.
Ash's wishy washyness kept going and going and going!
I understand why Ash is doing what she's doing with Luke(taking it slow). But, come on.
He's a grown man...& I think he knows what he wants to do!

This line killed me!!!
"Live your life, Luke. If we're meant to happen, we'll know when the time is right for both of us."

I guess you can say.... This is the part in this book where I was loosing interest. I can honest say...I'm starting to struggle with this book.
As I kept reading... I'm finding that i'm really not enjoying it.
I hated reading them living their lives separate. Luke is dating another women and Ash is leading her ex-boyfriend along.
The only reason they are not together is because Ash is all of a sudden scared. She won't take a chance.

The ending of this book was ok. I mean I'm happy Luke Took the initiative to just tell Ash what he wanted.
But Ash is really a problem for me. All her up's and down's.
It's really hard for me to connect with her.
But overall...this book was not my cup of tea.

4.5 stars

I got to admit to a lot of mixed emotions whilst reading this novella. At the end of part one it looked like Luke and Ash's friendship could be turning into a relationship but love and relationships are never that easy. Luke is all for going into a relationship with Ash even though he has just come out of a relationship with Emma just days ago. Ash is not so sure she doesn't want to be the comfortable choice, she feels Luke's feelings towards her changed too quickly, so she sets him free until he starts to live his life for him self and no one else even if it means dating.
So this is where my mixed emotions come in on one hand I totally get where Ash is coming from but Like jumps through hoops for her and she never seemed impressed, pleased he did want she wanted. Ash has loved Luke her while life and when the chance came to be with him she pushed him away - I get why but it still kinda annoyed me !
Even though Ash's actions annoyed me I did enjoy this novella, I loved how Luke started to live his life for him and not a girl. can't wait to see how their relationship develops in the last instalment !

In this second part I got annoyed because of what Ash make Luke do. Finally when they get together she has to freak out and push him away. All because of her own fears. Luke is not happy about this so he does the best he can out of this situation. He does what she told him to do and I don't blame him for doing it. He shouldn't feel guilty doing those thing because Ash pushed him to do it. God, I know but she was such an idiot to to what she did. Just because she felt she would be the second prize next to Emma. Hello!? Emma who she has been long gone from Luke's sight. Haven is torn between both her brother and her best friend she is the seed that was planted in Ash's head. I don't like that she did that but, I understand why. Does Ash finally let her fears take control of her? Will Luke follow through and find something else that isn't Ash? Anyways yeah lets hope for the best in this last part of the serial.
