Some of the stories were more compelling than others, and Porter does make use of the annoying early 20th-century tendency to write in bad dialect to try to convey a character's social class, but on the whole the stories were very readable and kept me turning pages. There is one Chinese character that is a pretty shameful stereotype by today's standards, but the character is a positive one overall, and other than that, the racial stereotypes are pretty minor, I think. Kudos also to whoever formatted this collection; there were few if any typos or OCR issues, which is great considering the price.

Fourteen Wonderful Books

Before reading this compilation of her stories, I had only read Pollyanna and enjoyed it. These stories were entertaining and held my interest completely. The two books containing short stories were amazing. The longer books were page turners. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good stories without bad language or characters who were not likeable. I find myself wanting to live in Mrs Porter's world where people care about others.

Very enjoyable reading

I enjoyed these stories, they are down to earth and interesting. There were many times I had a hard time putting them down.
