Everything You Need to Know About Starting Your Own Wiccan Journey, Today! One of Wicca’s greatest strengths as a spiritual practice is the variety of paths one can choose from. While some are drawn to the idea of practicing in total secrecy and solitude, others crave a group of like-minded individuals to learn from and worship with. Those who seek a structured, traditional form of Wicca to follow are likely to benefit from coven membership. After all, this is how Wicca began—as a group-centered practice taking place within a gathering of Witches for the purpose of conducting ritual and magic. In fact, the coven was the vehicle for the rise of Wicca, first in Europe and then in the United States and beyond. There are covens practicing today whose members can trace their initiatory lineage back to the mid-20th century, and will continue carrying on their traditions well into this century and beyond. Yet coven life is not for everyone. Some people work best within the looser structures of Wiccan circles, which are more informal but still offer a sense of belonging to a spiritual community. These groups can be a great place to acquire knowledge and experience, while marking the important Wiccan holidays – the Sabbats and Esbats – with rituals and celebrations. Still others opt for solitary practice, either because there isn’t a Wiccan community in their vicinity or because they simply like to chart their own course in a completely independent manner. Those who choose this solo path have the most freedom and flexibility, yet they also face a wider range of decisions to make. If you’re going it alone, do you still want to follow a particular Wiccan tradition? If so, where can you find information about what to do, and how and when to do it? And what does it mean if you prefer to develop a more individualized approach to your practice? After all, Wicca has always been a continually evolving religion, so to adapt traditions according to your own intuition is actually a sort of tradition in and of itself! A Traveler’s Guide to the World of Wicca As you can see, there are many ways to understand and experience the core essence of Wicca, and it may take awhile for you to discover where your individual journey begins. Finding Your Path, by best-selling author Lisa Chamberlain, was created as an orientation to these possibilities. In this book, you’ll be introduced to the wide spectrum of contemporary Wiccan practice, with tips to help you make well-informed decisions about where you want your journey to take The role of the coven in the birth and rise of Wicca The benefits and potential drawbacks of belonging to a coven The differences between covens and circles The pros and cons of solitary practice The differences between traditional and eclectic practices Introductions to the most widely-practiced Wiccan Gardnerian, Alexandrian, and Dianic, as well as a handful of other, less common forms How to find your Wiccan community, should you desire to join one By the end of this guide, you will have a solid understanding of the amazing diversity of the Wiccan religion. You will also, ideally, have a clearer view of what your own next steps along the path will be! If you're ready to start your journey, scroll to the top of the page and select the buy button.
Lisa dispels all the common misconceptions about this diverse religion, giving her readers the perfect foundations for taking their first steps on their Wiccan journey.
Unlike other Wicca guides, Lisa's books provide information that's found across many Wiccan traditions, rather than coming from just one person's perspective. In fact, she writes the kinds of books she wishes had been available when she was just starting out in the Craft all those years ago.
When not writing or experimenting with spellwork, Lisa loves to read, play piano, and spend time surrounded by nature.
This book contained only some very basic, introductory information about the different traditions and paths for Wiccans but that's all its supposed to be and what I expected going in. If you are someone like me, a complete novice in studying this religion, then it's a good introduction and helps point to further reading and specific topics you might want to continue on too. But I imagine if you are already well read on the subject, this book probably won't have too much new info for you. For what it is though, it does a very good job.
I enjoyed this introduction to Wicca and found it incredibly informative. A must read for anyone who is looking to find a starting point in this incredibly vast subject!
Research about celtic runes led to interest in paganism and Wicca, which led to me reading the Wicca Starter Kit: Wicca for Beginners, Finding Your Path, and Living a Magical Life set, thinking it may offer me a way to include more spirituality and connection to nature in my life. These books were interesting and I liked how they were very accessible and open-minded, but they soon made me realize the Wiccan path is not mine. I still read all three books though, because it is always good to learn about things you don't know much about.
This is another book written for novices looking for information. I found the book easy to understand and thoroughly researched on the history of covens.
It explains the difference between a coven and circle. Explores the pro and cons between coven practice and solitary. Touches on some of the major paths of Wicca.
The author does this without showing bias for one over another.
As an experienced practitioner I highly recommended this book.
Lisa Chamberlain has written a guide which gives those new to the Craft information on covers and circles. She also writes about Solitary and Eclectic Wicca as well as some of the traditional forms of Wicca. This is the perfect book for someone interested in the Craft and not sure where to begin. Don't be put off by its length as the information it contains is really good. Recommended to those starting out and wanting to know what options are open to them.
I have read similar books such as Wicca by Scott Cunningham and Wicca for Beginners by Thea Sabin and I would be remised if I did not mention that Lisa Chamberlain has a very easy to read writing style but I felt like the information could have been more in depth and thorough. I will read the remainder of her books to see if I can get out of them what I got out of Scott Cunningham and Thea Sabin's books.
I Absolutely Agree With All The Points Given In This Book. It Is A Great Beginners Start Into The Learning Of Becoming A Wiccan. This Book Is Really Informative And Has Some Great Informations About Different Wicca Paths, Difference Between Coven, Circle And Solitary Wicca. Being A Kindle Unlimited Member I Read This Book For Free And It Is Absolutely Amazing.
This book breaks down the many paths a beginner can take. It outlines the benefits and pitfalls of each and even adds in an important message about safety. While I have read other books that touch on these subjects, I found some great insights to help guide myself to the path that works best for me.
This is a good place to start. The author goes over the most popular groups of Wiccan practices. She describes the differences in simple terms to get you started if you want to learn about Wicca.
Great book to start if interested in Wicca. Thoughtful, comprehensive, and informative. I’ve read many books on the topic and for beginners this does a good job of not overwhelming the reader with information.
Absolutely loved this book. It was recommended as a good read from a friend. While it is a lot thinner than I thought it would be. It has a great amount of information and resources. I already had some base knowledge on Wicca but there were still things that I learned from this book. It was easy to read and understand and it gave me some guidance on areas that I want to read up more on. It has also given a great start on where I would like to start discovering my journey. I have already ordered more of her books as well and can not wait to read through them.
WOW! This book is stuffed with information! For the enquiring mind, this book provides a solid starting point to begin an exploration into Wicca. With concise sections clarifying the diversity of worship styles encompassed by the Wiccan umbrella, the authoress prepares the novice for encounters with differing views and practices, including how to choose a style. The unbiased, respectful handling of the various Wiccan styles is refreshing; it liberates the novice from the anxiety of finding the 'one true way.' The only addition I would like to see in this beginner's guide, is the inclusion of footnotes or a tiny glossary with brief explanations of terms such as esbat, tools, Book of Shadows, etc. 5 stars - well written and worth the read.
Most of the time when people say the word coven they immediately think of a group of people in black robes surrounding a cauldron. In reality, it is a spiritual community. This book provides a brief history of witchcraft and Wicca, along with a breakdown of how covens are structured. It also discusses the pros and cons of being in a coven, while also showing the possible solitary path one might choose. The author discusses the differences between Wiccan traditions while emphasizing the importance of finding your own path in your spiritual journey. A well written book that provides a solid base to begin your travels into Wicca.
This may be the "the tip of the iceberg" as Lisa Chamberlain calls this little book but anyone looking for a truly comprehensive guide to Wicca should have to look no further. The book is an informative guide from the history up through the evolution and offshoots of Wicca. So whether you have a casual interest or a heartfelt desire to become a member of a coven or a solitary practitioner of this growing spiritual belief, you should start here.
This well-planned book is a perfect guide for anyone getting acquainted with the structure of the present-day Wicca and I would strongly recommend to make it the first book you read about Wicca. It can obviously save you a lot of time and help you avoid chaotic reading when looking for what inside Wicca really appeals to you. Above all, it warns you about the dangers existing in the occult world. An excellent practical overview!
Lisa Chamberlain provides the basic information needed for a beginner to start finding their path in Wicca. As usual, she recommends evaluating your sources and doing what works the best for your own spiritual needs.
It is an easy read. It only took me a day or two. It is filled with tons of general info about Wicca, which is great for any beginner or anyone interested in learning about Wicca. Don't expect to get specifics.
I was very pleased with this book. It gave me more knowledge on what wicca consist of and how to better find the path I need to take. I highly recommend this book for beginners and people who are interested in wicca and have no clue where to start!
Contains a lot of info on covens and different Wiccan traditions. Well worth a read if you are a beginner Wiccan or just curious of coven life or traditions.
