Wow! Best-selling author Bella Forrest has dazzled her readers yet again with A Soldier of Shadows, the nineteenth release in her spellbinding mega-hit series, A Shade of Vampire and she has totally left me breathless- again! Like thousands of my fellow Shaddicts, I've been hooked from the very first book of the series and now anxiously await each release. I simply can't get enough! I was turning the pages so fast, my Kindle Fire couldn't keep up! Just when I think there's no way this series can get any better - wham - Bella hits us with another knockout! Bella has surprised us all with another riveting adventure that curls our toes, makes our hearts pound and keeps us begging for more! This is a paranormal/supernatural/fantasy saga so unlike any other I've ever read. It is exciting, well crafted, original, unique, imaginative, thrilling, fast paced, riveting, action packed, mysterious, suspenseful, enchanting, heartbreaking, heartwarming, seductive, passionate and oh so romantic. They explode from the page, grab your imagination, capture your heart and hold you totally enthralled from beginning to end. Forrest skillfully combines these elements to craft a stunningly brilliant masterpiece of paranormal romance filled to the brim with action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, suspense, magic, supernatural beings, love, passion, loyalty, heartbreak, hope and plot twists that will blow your mind.

In Book Nineteen, our story resumes in The Shade after the attempt is made to transform Ben Novak, Prince of the Shade, back to human. Unfortunately, the attempt fails miserably but during the ordeal, Ben has a vision of being taken to Cruor, the home of the Elders, while being held captive as a baby by the Hawks. While Ben struggles to recover from the unsuccessful transformation, River leaves the Shade with the aid of one their witches to seek her family and return with them to the Shade but surprisingly discovers they have been captured and taken to The Oasis. Looking for answers

The Novaks travel with their son Ben back to the Oasis looking for answers to why he cannot control his bloodlust. What they run into is a whole different problem called the Jinns, a magical species whose only way to escape their clutches is to be their slabs for eternity. Ben needs to save his family so he agrees to it.

He still is searching for answers when he finds out when he was an infant one of the Elders an original vampire had imprinted on his soul. Ben needs answers and he will do whatever he has to do, to find them l.

Feelings for ben

I really love a shade of vampire series I don't write a lot of reviews but sometime you just got to give it up to the amazing ppl who write these journeys we get to go on and from book one I was hooked I'm so glad to find out why ben has a eating disorder lol. I was in deep with this book I'm also worried about ben being away from river who may have been the one person to help him hold on to himself I'm glad he has a love like river I'm also wanting to find out what's going on with those sexy dragons and the Dragon king but I know I have to wait. Ill be holding on teeth and nail waiting for Nov to read what's gonna happen to ben on this next journey. my main problem with this book is it was over to fast. I got so much going on in my mind about this series that I know it's a jumble mess of a review but I'm gonna say if you want a series to fall in love with then shade of vampires is the way to go I would recommend this whole series to anyone who wants love,adventures,paranormal and so much more you have witches,vampires,dragons,shape shifters orges and the jinns I don't know what else can be added I just know if God Grace keeps me alive ill be there to read it thanks Bella for this adventure and please continue with more cause I can't get enough of the shade I love the characters want to know what the babies is all of it give me more lol much love to you Bella you've filled some very boring days with fun love and laughter.

No!!! What is going to happen to Ben!!

I can't stand the anxiety at the end of these stories! I get one question answered, only to be replaced by two more...but the stories are incredibly good and keep you reading to find the answers. Poor misguided Jeramiah, where do his intentions lie and to what extent will he go to cause trouble for his family at The Shade? Now we find out that Ben's story will encompass two more books instead of one?! I don't know if my heart can stand it! If you have not read any of the Bella Forrest books, I assure you they are worth reading and you can cruise right through them from the beginning and not have to wait like some of us unfortunate creatures

Never disappointed

Bella Forrest continues to break through a storyline and spin the world she created like a top. I am very pleased with Ben's story thus far. His bond between he and River brings tears to my eyes. I had pictured Ben as a victim, not a hero. He is changing my mind. It is wonderful to see him mature and become selfless like his mother even though his bloodlust is so much like his father.

I am looking forward to the next book. Where will they go from here? Will Ben accept his fate willingly or fight it to his death? Will Derek find the answers he is looking for in a new realm? What is Jeremiah planning? Will River continue to fight to be with her one true love? I need more.

What will Ben find out next?

Ben Novak left the island, The Shade, to go in search of answers to his uncontrollable thirst for human blood. While in search of the answers he meets a girl named River that he falls in love with and she vows to stay with him so she can help him in his quest. Ben finds out that things are complicated and that his love for River may be tested to the brink of losing her. This is a very good book in this series that I know will keep the pages turning.

Following this series since the very first novel, reading first through Derek & Sofia’s epic love story which was death defyingly romantic, adventurous, and full of pure wondrous fantasy which gripped you like no other, allowed Bella Forrest to introduce you to her then small but unique world of The Shade where Vampires ruled with the help of Witches but along with Humans whom of some help the blood of an immune, Sofia was one of the immune and her blood held secrets and power but for Derek, the King of The Shade who met Sofia upon being awoken from a deep sleep, it held the power of a love story which held tight, fast and strong against those who tried to come against them.

Regardless of what the world threw at them Derek & Sofia along with the help of their friends and family of The Shade, they made it through it all. With them through from the very first novel: A Shade of Vampire #1 right through to A Break of Day #7 where their personal story concluded we were treated to an ever expanding world beyond The Shade, learning about other cultures, supernatural creatures (Good, Evil and the ones who were somewhere in-between) and the portals between each of the other worlds. Bella Forrest had found herself not only a very loyal fan base but also had shown both her readers, her peers and her critics just how ingenious she was in inspiring a level of creative fantasy writing that easily cast a spell over the reader leaving them wanting more.

In books #8 through to #16 we discovered Rose & Caleb’s story. Rose is one of the Twins that Sofia and Derek had and is based 18 years in the future from the end of the 7th book. Here we pick up on the cusp of the twins going from young innocents into two children who have to grow up very quickly. Becoming separated early on in these books Bella Forrest concentrated on Rose rather than her twin brother Ben. Like mother like daughter we soon see that Rose is just as much of a magnet for trouble as her mother Sofia was and still is. Derek & Sofia naturally feature heavily also in these books continuing their journey but the centralized plot is focused on Rose and then on Caleb as the two struggle in order to be together. Rose is kidnapped early on and in an attempt to help his sister Ben chooses to turn into a Vampire a few months earlier than originally planned so that he can help in order to try and be a pivotal role in the search for her, only things do not go according to plan. Ben ends up killing a human after discovering that he cannot ingest and keep down animal blood, he can only drink live fresh blood. In an act of selfless but also stupid bravery (so he can no longer be a danger to those he loves and cares for at home in The Shade) he runs away looking for answers as to why his turning took a strange turn of events.

In A Wind of Change #17, we finally pick back up fully upon Ben to see where his story leads, and t leads to somewhere no one thought it ever would….. The Oasis. The Oasis, located underground in Egypt, once held Ben’s mother Sophia hostage and when Derek came for her he killed his brother who was head of the coven there to free her. Thinking that the Oasis as destroyed no one has thought of the place since until Ben’s story came to light. What we have discovered so far is that Ben has a cousin, Jeremiah and he is the one keeping him in place at the Oasis or so we thought until the ending of A Trail of Echoes #18, where we discovered that the tattoo (tracking and anti-leaving spell) on his arm and that of the others was not put there by witches as we all first though but by a family of Jinn who live in the deeper levels of The Oasis. They have a deal in place with Jeremiah but at that point we only suspected we knew the full details of this insane but very intriguing connection, but very little did we actually know……….

River is the only one who can help Ben with his “curse” for craving blood the way he does, because she was “half turned”, not a vampire but no longer human, the scent of her blood is off putting to him allowing him to be around people for short periods of time without him immediately ripping their throats out to spill their blood, his deepest craving but also his deepest fear. Thrust together through a sequence of events neither could control but due to bot their hearts being pure at the core, they instantly strike up a bond feeling the need to protect each other. This is shown even further when they manage to escape The Oasis in #18 heading for The Shade each helping the other at the cost and the detriment of the other along the way. But they always find a way and their bond continues to shine, neither will accept their feelings yet so we will just have to take a seat, pull out that bag of popcorn (who knows how long this may take, going on how much game his dad has it shouldn’t take him too long!) and watch, waiting for the time when they both finally realise they are made for each other they are just too stubborn to admit it!!

What A Soldier of Shadows brings to you is the world of The Shade opening up to you once more, expanding our knowledge of just what, who/m and where some new introductory supernatural species we have not heard about before within the novels come from and some revelations about just what roles they have already played within The Shades inhabitants lives before now. Many secrets are going to be uncovered, love will be found and also lost, families will weep, emotions will fly and there is more than one sucker punch you will not see coming. Not all truths should be found, some should stay buried.

If like me you are quite invested in each of these characters then make sure you have a box of tissues on hand, for both your tears but also for your heart when it bursts with love and happiness. I feel I cannot say much more for feel of giving away spoilers, as a fan you deserve to not have your anticipation, shock, anger, hate, love, laughter and total concentration taken away by “those people” who feel the need to spoil it for you!

River & Ben will face something no other have faced before and this is their story……

The present situation feel like it could be the final destination, so..


A frazzled Witch, A jealous Jinn, An infatuated Half-Blood and an Imprinted all travel on an unknown path seeking answers concerning a boy none other than the Prince of The Shade, Benjamin Novak. It’s safe to say, the reality of their predicament starts to sinks in.

In Ben’s journey he discovers The Oracle. Though it has no mortal eyes, it does have unbounded knowledge of the universe, which may point you in the right direction or give answers that should never have been spoken.


For River, whilst she never falters in her love for Ben, she contemplates how to support Ben’s self-discovery considering the enlightenment of his unbreakable bond gifted to him at birth.

How can you change a part of you that’s been there since birth?

On reflection I think back to when Ben was introduced to the readers and how far he’s character has evolved. Bella Forrest has managed to make the reader feel sad, intrigued and in love with the characters. So much so, we cannot get enough of these books.

Un nouveau tome qui se concentre sur Ben et qui nous ramène loin dans le passé. Au delà des djinns que j'ai beaucoup apprécié de découvrir, le roman nous ramène aux événements qui ont suivi la naissance de Rose et de Ben. Et au vu de l'avenir sombre que cela nous présage pour Ben, on ne peut que se dire que Rose a eu beaucoup de chance... La relation entre River et Ben progresse bien et j'ai trouvé leur dernière nuit très touchante (avant que Ben ne la renvoie avec Corrine). J'avoue que j'ai un peu de mal à comprendre pourquoi les djinns choisissent Ben pour les servir (est-ce à cause de sa nature ? De la prophétie ?) Et j'émets de grosses réserves sur l'équipée à dos de dragons...


Ce que j'aime : le développement de l'histoire, le lien avec les tomes précédents, la relation entre Ben et River


Ce que j'aime moins : on ne voit pas assez Jeremiah, du coup je l'avais complétement perdu de vue dans ce tome alors qu'il va bien finir par agir non ?

4.7 stars. Best book in the series for me for a while. Only bit I wasn't 100% on was the ending where suddenly Jeremiah turned up again. I would have rather saved this until the next book as the plot to understand Bens life came to a shocking climax. I cannot imagine any good can come from the next part of his journey to crudor but I hope Bella finds a way.
With every book I not only buy into Ben and Rivers relationship but also I become more attached to them as individuals.
So ready for the next instalment!

Oh man! I think that things are about to get intense! We’ve known for a while now that there’s something different about Benjamin Novak, but up until now all we’ve had is more questions about why and what it means for him. Well in this book we got TONS of answers about what makes him so different and get some hints at things to come as a result. If you felt bad for Ben before, just wait until you read this book. My heart broke for the poor kid, I can’t even imagine what he’s going to have to go through now or how he’s going to get out of this situation. There’s always some disaster brewing with the residents of The Shade, it’s one of the things I love about this series, but this one of the first times that it’s pulled this much at my heartstrings! I’m really enjoying the River/Ben pairing and I truly hope they can find some semblance of happy ever after before too long! I can’t believe that this is book 19 and the series is still going this strong, you’d think that it would eventually run out of steam but Bella Forrest keeps finding ways to make it fresh and still exciting after all this time. I’m excited to see that there’ll be more books beyond book 20 and it also looks like there’s a dragon spin off, I can’t wait for that! Keep them coming!

Interesting

This book was a breath of fresh air in the sense of good spelling and grammar. Although this book was pretty good it was a bit hard to follow. I understand it being the 19th book of course I would be confused right? But in books that are a part of a series they always have information of previous books put in to allow the reader some sense of understanding. In this case it really wasn't like that. So if you are just reading this book out of order I wouldn't recommend it. It's pretty hard to follow and leaves too many unanswered questions. Other than that it's a pretty interesting and good book. I gave it three stars due to the lost of story line and confusion. But decided to change it to four stars because the grammar was phenomenal and the story was pretty good even if it was just one solid piece of confusion.
