I picked this up as a Freebie quick spooky read for Halloween and I wasn't disappointed. Technically it may fall into the Horror genre but this is so much more. A touch of Sci Fi, a dash of psychology, and even within these short pages the philosophical questions that could come with the idea of artificial intelligence gaining control.

Of course the big twist is that there is no real AI at all but that is something you will have to learn for yourself. Definitely an adult only read but great nods to classical killers like Hannibal Lector and then a nice dark ending make this a perfect storm of freebie enjoyment. Grab yourself a copy today! You literally have nothing to lose! V""V

I normally stay away from the Horror genre mostly due to my own misconceptions. But I am extremely glad I picked this book up, for free I might add. It is a short read but packs a lot in to the short story.

Here we meet Joseph, a lonely genius who is broken down by the world and just wants a companion. When the real world leaves him with no choice he decides to build his own perfect woman, but he is in for a rude awakening. Things don't go as planned and the twist is just something you'll have to read for your self.

Spine tingling and thought provoking this book will definitely make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Again I am not one for the Horror genre but this is a great spooky read just in time for Halloween. Scary enough to make you think twice about certain things but not gruesome or disgusting.

Overall I think this is a fantastic short story. Due to some adult themes I do only suggest this to readers over the age of 18.

A soul tingling tale!

Usually horror books are not my cup of tea. Back in the day yes but not now.
This one however had an old school charm to it. Giving you just enough detail to let your imagination fill in the rest.
It's a gripping tale that has some interesting twists to say the least.
Not a straight forward horror but a mixture of paranormal and science fiction. With a dash of twisted dark fantasy to spice things up a bit!
I am certainly going to be stalking this Author!

Joseph was tired of always being to butt of everyone's jokes. He knew his ideas were genius and he had a little cash now that he could finally prove it. A flash of pain from a high school burn received by the hands of a cheerleader spurned his creations name, but did it evoke something more sinister!!??

Oh what a tangled web, our deadly sins weave. Would it just be as simple as Joseph made it out to be in his head. Well after all he created her like a mad scientist!!

Rachel Rawlings created the perfect piece for the season. A horrific portrayal of a creation gone bad or seemlessly well played if you decide to look at both sides of the coin. Her writing, though short, conveyed all emotions and feelings of both the characters and didn't leave me feeling empty or wanting. Although I would love to see more from this line of work. A full novel maybe?? More novellas?? Hmmmm...

Her character development of Joseph was masterful and you could almost feel the desperation ooze from the screen as you read. I really enjoyed reading this short twisted tale! It had a dash of adult content that didn't take away from the story but enhanced Joseph's development as a person.

5 stars Rachel Rawlings, I tip my Nerd Girl Hat to you!!! Keep it coming!

This is a really quick (and free on Kindle) read that packs an unexpected punch.

At first it feels a little bit like Weird Science meets Ex Machina with a demonic twist. It’s teen-tech-fantasy mixing with dangerous AI made for a familiar foundation that took a very different route.

Initially this book is driven by Joseph’s loneliness and sexual frustration. But about 30% of the way through it shifts to a surprising facet of survival. I don’t want to spoil how, but I will say that it takes the awkward human motivation and replaces it with something far more sinister.

I’ve read this story twice already, and I was surprised each time by how complete of a story it is without a hefty word count. It’s kind of a “Start reading, zip through, and get left with thoughts spinning through your head” kind of read.

Verdict

5 out of 5 blood spattered stars. I really enjoyed the twisted Weird Science aspect of this story and how the ending played out.

This is, however, a book for mature readers. Sex and Violence play an important role here, so you’ve been warned. Enjoy ;-)

Wow! This is a really great book! This is the first book I have read by this author and definitely won't be the last! I've heard her name a lot and seen her books but never got the time to get to them on my TBR pile. I just can't put into words how great this is. She really pack a lot of story in this short book. I love it when it's like that. No wasted words or anything. I couldn't stop reading. It's got supernatural and also has that creepy scary feeling. Just right for Halloween. I was surprised by how the story line went because it wasn't predictable at all. It makes you stop and think to always be careful what you wish for! What an imagination Ms. Rawlings has! Very talented. The story reminded me so much of Stephen King. Except she is a better story teller. I think King, himself, would be jealous.

What an amazing, creepy, horrifying, can't put down read this one is! I love author Rachel Rawlings and all of her books! Each one has a unique style to it and the characters are just a bit off - it makes you wonder what goes on inside of her mind. I love the way this novella starts out and the suspense continues to build as the reader continues to fly through the pages, frantically turning them to get to the end! The reader never wants the book to end but at the same time they need it to end to see what happens next! I am already looking forward to the next book by author Rachel Rawlings! Intelligently futuristic mixed with a pinch of supernatural
I was sucked into this book from the first sentence. With expertly woven suspense and captivating characters, I couldn’t put this story down until I finished. Don’t let the page count fool you, it was packed with everything that makes a horror book great.

Sherri 2.0 by Rachel Rawlings has bullies and the bullied, a robot, an adult toy factory, and a demon. Really? It was a wild ride, and quick; the pages practically turned themselves. I have to go now, and look for more of Rachel Rawlings books. Don't worry, you'll be adding her to your list too.
