Jake’s been working with the Baxters since they were on SEAL Team 10. That’s more than ten years. He’s watched their kids grow up and his other team members and coworkers getting married. He wants that too. He’s sick of picking up random women and one-night stands. He wants a family and he wants it yesterday...

L. Ann started with the Baxters and followed that with multiple series and genres. While her books feature paranormal, FBI, ex-military and Badass Bikers, L. Ann is writing about the strong women that these men need in their life to help right the world's wrongs and keep their small part of the world safe. The women are extraordinary, strong and determined to make a difference.
The men fight for right in every book. Yes, they kill people. Yes, the MC shoots at the bad guys’ feet to cause them pain. Yes, some throw tampons at each other regularly.
That being said, they do these things while stopping human trafficking and experimentation, bringing their world into legitimate businesses, fighting gangs to keep drugs away from their town and kids, keep women sheltered safely while trying to stop domestic abuse. These are men that don’t leave a pack, Team member or Brother behind. They don’t treat women as possessions and they don’t cheat. Respect takes on an honorable meaning. Women and kids are cherished. Everyone is looked out for and everyone is equal.
L. Ann has made amazing worlds, tackled the taboo subjects and made it easy to imagine living in a world where your protection comes from the vampires, shifters, freaky kids, albinos and orientals, military turned FBI and some Badass Bikers.
With readers writing about rereading the series over and over, she feels like she’s told her characters’ stories in a way that would make them proud.
Every book will make you laugh, every book will make you angry for the wrong that happens in the world. Every book will make you cry for the pain that a character feels. Every book gives you hope that we may just get it right yet

Jake’s book is my hands down favorite of L. Ann Marie’s Baxter Series. It was much slower paced than the other books, but that’s not saying much since her books tend to give me a whiplash feeling with all the things packed in. I also loved that we got lots of time with characters from her “MC” series. These two series have become so intertwined, I would suggest reading both together in published order.

I loved the quirky and fun heroine Sam. Like most of the h’s in these books, she has a tragic past that would have broken a lesser woman. Although suffering from PTSD, Sam has found a way to make her dream of becoming a doctor come true despite the many roadblocks in front of her, not the least of which being that she is completely deaf.

Jake has been a favorite of mine from the Baxter team and I was hoping he’d get his HEA, especially after things didn’t work out between him and Penny. Jake wasn’t as alpha as some of the rest of the guys at the MC, but that didn’t make him any less appealing. He was caring, sweet, and kind but he could take care of any threat whatsoever. As much as I liked Jake, I do feel like his backstory is missing. Sometimes it feels like unless the characters in these books were raised in the foster care system, they hatched from eggs fully grown with no history whatsoever.

One of the reasons why this book felt slower paced and less intense than its predecessors was because of all the completely romantic and lighthearted moments we were treated to. The water tower scene now has its place on my most sweetly romantic moments in a biker book list. The picnic with the solar panel light board could probably make that list too.

My main problems with the book are sadly some of the same issues I’ve had with Ms. Marie’s other books. They all need editing badly, including this one. The telling instead of showing, huge time jumps, and confusion of who is even talking need to be addressed. Also, the same scenarios seem to get repeated over and over which got old several books ago. Finally, once again we have beloved side characters doing complete character implosions and turning against the Baxter’s. Mainly it boils down to me wishing we had more quality original content and less quantity of overused plot twists.

Even with my pretty major for me complaints, I find myself still strangely fascinated with this series. For reasons I can’t quite explain, this series along with the author’s MC series have become a kind of comfort read when I just need to veg out.

Spice’s Rating: 4 Sweet and Fascinating But Needs Some Work Stars.

I first started by reading MC: Knight and then realised that I wanted the whole story and that started with the Baxter's .. although the first books didn't have a lot of crossovers they did set the scene for what is to come in the other books as the stories move along so their importance to the series' as a whole cannot be overstated

I have just read the 22 books to date back to back in the order published on the author's website and decided to review them as a whole. I really don't think they stand well as stand alones as there are too many common threads, too much history and too much character crossover for that so it really is one (very) long story over a very long period of time with each series concentrating on a particular character group but including all of the others (except for the initial Baxter books which didn't have a lot of MC action but did set the scene for a lot of what is to come).

I loved every book although of course some more than others but i am giving an overall five star rating. My biggest issue was that sometimes (often) i found it difficult to be sure exactly who was talking and had to reread sections to try to work it out. I think that perhaps what the author is seeing in her head moves a bit too fast to translate well to the written word for some of us (something like the thoughts of some of her characters - you need to read the stories to understand my thought process here!!)

My other issue was keeping my head straight with the cast of thousands (and this is not an exaggeration) ... with each story building on to what has come before and what will come to be and with most characters continuing to play a place in each consecutive story I found myself constantly stopping to think - now who was that, whose child is that, whose partner is that???? but even amongst that confusion I loved the relationships and the strengths they provided.

The author has an amazing imagination and has brought to the table a fantastic story that i will continue to read and at some point will def read again. I have always loved and had an interest in native american philosophy and also in paranormal and psychic connections and love the way these are ingrained into the books as the stories unfold.

Although there were some things that caused me slight annoyances I cannot deny that as a whole this fits as one of the best series i have enjoyed. my thanks to the author for providing such a thoroughly engaging tale

L Ann Marie has become an author who can really write alpha-male-instant-love MC books. I enjoy the world she has built with the MC and the Baxters. Jake and Sam(antha) are both highly professional, and their worlds come together at Baxters. Hot sex! Interesting side story of her deafness, especially in relation to the other deaf characters in the author's world. Things happen quickly, as is usual for her books. I had read all the MC books before reading this one and Rayne, so I am now going back to read Brighton and then Muniz again after I finish Rayne.

I recommend that you read the Baxter books interspersed with the MC books, using the author's timeline, or you will miss out on some things like I did.

Started reading this author early in her writing career. I am glad she continues to write and has found much better editing support.

Loved it

This story deals with rape, no graphic details, but may be an issue for some.
Some light BDSM.

I love the Baxter and MC stories. Jake and Zack have been two great support characters in both series. This is Jake's story but Zack finds his Old Lady too.

Jake works high security for the Baxter's and is an associate member of the MC's and runs HS for them when they have a need. Samantha, Sam, I am, is a resident physician finishing her training under Dr Steve. She is deaf and mute. She was sexually assaulted three times in the hospital she was training at, the attacker not found. With the help of one of her professors, she is completing her training with the Baxter's. Jake and Sam just click when they meet. She moves in with him and Mitch and the old ladies are planning the wedding and reception. Pres presiding, of course.

Mitch in her never ending quest for making peoples lives better, develops a way to help Sam sense sound. Which she extends to Darren.

There is always a threat, and Lori and Sam are taken, and badly injured. It doesn't slow either down. The Baxter's and MC's make it right. They even get justice for Sam against her rapeist Baxter/MC style.

The attacks keep coming and they are betrayed once again by trusted friends. The Baxter's and MC's close ranks and have each other's backs.

I loved Jake and Sam's story. Loved Zack and Lori's wedding. Poor daddy K, not taking his little girl growing up well. Love Steve Knight. A true Knight on a steel horse. Great addition to the series.

I am really torn on this review it was a great read just hard for me to follow. It starts out slow but soon speeds up with wonderful action and thrills. I thought the plot was great with great characters. I just had a hard time getting into it and trouble understanding who was talking. It has wonderful love scenes with tons of hot passion.

Give it a try and see what you think. So many reviewers did not have the trouble I did and thought it was outstanding.

Is there anything sexier than a SEAL ready to settle down? This was a tight, suspenseful story with a strong romance. I love the Baxter group and the military/govt contractor world building. It was very well done. But the best part of the book is the relationship between Jake and Sam I am. It's sweet and sexy and tender and did I mention sexy? Very good read.

This was an amazing read! Once again L. Ann Marie has pulled off the perfect amount of romance and action that ends in happiness.

Follow Samantha and Jake as they find their way to happiness even as craziness follows them. They both have been through a lot and deserve it but know it will not be easy getting there.

---------
Jake's story starts with him going into the newly remodeled MC club building. This is the first time the author has explained what the remodel looks like. (I really enjoyed seeing this in my min's eye.)

The Brothers are now watching a Child Trafficking Ring in Canada. They stopped one route from the coast but the traffickers have set up another one. Baxters has come up with a new progeam to troll the internet to pick up bids and pix of the kids then logs and locates the site before it shuts down. So the name TROLL is a good one for it.

I learned more about how Baxter Security works and the men involved.

Now we learn about Penny. She was at the last MC party and Jake "rescued" her. She realizes after talking with Tess that she has been existing in life and she is ready to start living her life. She has spent enough time being the woman her ex made her. Now it is time to live her own life, not what he left.

The night of the party at the MC, Tess takes her right up to Jake and eaves her. She's embarrassed and apologizes. His response was a kiss on the cheek and "Technically. Tess interrupted and I'm glad she did. You look lovely tonight."

hey walk out to the patio admiring the art work on the walls when Penny informs him that Amanda did all of it.

Once on the patio, he takes her to a table away from the others. He says, I thought we could talk. Cloud told me you asked about me coming tonight. I don't want to scare you or make you uncomfortable, but I like to be upfront and honest. Did you want to see me tonight?"

That catches her a little off guard, she takes a breath, looks over at Kate who gives her a head shake, she responds, "Yes. I had fun at the last arty because you rescued me from being a wallflower. I asked if you'd be here tonight and was excited you came."

Hum . . . sounds like the beginning of a good relationship. But, having read 5 MC books, I know there will be twists and turns in the romance.

Mixed bag

I love how we are learning more about secondary characters we met in books 1-3 while exploring Jake and Samantha.

What story there was, was amazing.

This book seemed to focus more on the smut, then the story. It started out steamy, but became jarring. I love me 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ smut, but this made the story feel slow and disjointed.

Pet peeve in this series, the complete focus on fixing deafness. When the story was being told, it's main focus was fixing Samantha and teaching her to talk. I don't know why the author has it in for Deaf people, but I definitely don't need fixing.

Awesome

These storylines are confusing at times, but as long as you concentrate fairly east to follow, I sometimes have to go back to check myself. The main storyline line is continuous, either being brought to the foreground of the book or taking a slight back seat, but it's always there. The characters developed as each story unrolls. Some we lose, and others just get stronger. The topics picked are not always the nicest and will be triggers, so please read the warnings. Best read in order.
