Ecosse, 1072. Lui ?

This was an engaging and well written Highland romance. A past wrong changed the course of many lives. Years later, after much drama, action, lies, intrigue, kidnapping, and other intense, intense emotional issues, life changes for the better. I enjoyed this second chance at love and its lovely ending. I recommend reading.
Actual rating 1.5 stars because parts of it were OK, but parts I disliked immensely.
Reader, meet In the Laird's Bed, a book that fits the following criteria: - Yet again, a book my mom bought on sale. - Yet again, a book she thought was OK but I disagree (at least in parts I do). - A book whose author has the same initials with me - A book whose prologue, in fact the very first paragraph, made me groan. Want to know why? I'll tell you why. Our hero Duncan can smell a woman's scent in the wind. It didn't make me think good thoughts like "boy, she must smell great". No, it made me think that the woman in question has gone overboard with her use of scented oils (or whatever) or she uses too much perfume because she can't bother to wash herself. - A book with what one struggles to figure out which century it takes place in... The correct answer would be the 11th century, I think. - A book featuring a mead-brewing naive heroine who's supposed to be really intelligent and pretty and oh so special to the hero despite the fact that they last saw each other 5 years ago when our heroine Cristiana kind of dumped Duncan because his half-brother raped her sister - A book featuring a hero who has the greenest eyes ever. His eye colour must have been mentioned a gazillion times. - A book featuring a supposed alpha-male. - A book whose blurb promises you romance and maybe even some action. But do you get it? Nope. (see next point) - A book whose main characters have no chemistry between them. Or, actually, I found no chemistry whatsoever. The writing was bland and it is a miracle I managed to read all 240 pages of it. - A book whose blurb is off. Sure there were "secrets" but most of these "secrets" were revealed in about 5 seconds flat so it's kind of a miracle that they stayed secrets so long.
I guess that's about it. If one were to sum it all up, then one might say that this book was a huge disappointment for me and it is a miracle I managed to finish it.
Reading the first part of the book I was really confused. There wasn't enough information to understand what had exactly happened five years earlier and the relationships between characters and their feelings were truly incomprehensible. I didn't like the hero and the heroine because their main activity was to confuse each other and the reader. And then there were these details I would have liked to explore more - like the treasure hunt and Leah's bonding with Duncan. These things seemed really important but were written very little about. The second part of the book was a bit better but everything was rushed. Suddenly all these people were popping up. I read the book in my mother tongue so maybe it was the fault of the translation but sex scenes were really hilarious. All the words used to describe the male body parts ... I was laughing my head off.
Their love was worth the wait. - Separated from his heart's desire by treachery, Duncan has bided his time to claim his due. An entreaty for solace on a cold winter's night is the first step to getting everything he wants - an impenetrable keep, a strong fighting force, and the woman promised to him all those years ago. Cristiana longs for Duncan even as she rails against him. She has secrets she must keep to maintain the safety of her family from outsiders, including the silver-tongued devil who callously threw away her affection. A battle of wills and wits will ensue, the final outcome an everlasting love for not just the MCs but another broken couple as well.
This is the first historical novel I have read by Ms. Rock and I enjoyed it as much as I have her contemporary tales. Great characters that jump from the pages, emotionally engaging, action-packed without the gore, and a little steamy.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Christiana is the Lady of her father's castle. She will defend her family at all costs. Her father has been ill, and Elder helps her in running the castle. Duncan returns to her life, requesting shelter. He has other plans in regards to finding treasure on her land. Christiana does not wish to marry. Duncan wants to form an alliance with her. Will Christiana be willing to give him another chance after years apart? I enjoyed reading this book! There is passion, love, secrets, and conflict.

Sadly this book was a total disapointment. The female lead is one of the worst weak willed character I ever read. Humiliated, betrayed and she is once again his lapdog. His arm of deceit ? Sex... God, I finished the book with clenched teeth to get rid of this book as soon as possible.
Rock drew me in from the start and didn’t let me go for the rest of the afternoon. I am loving these historicals and a new side of a favorite author. 4.5 stars
Duncan left years earlier and cut ties with Cristiana. Now he's returned and wants a second chance. Can they resolve the secrets and conflict to have a future? Enjoyed. Received a free copy.
Duncan the Brave returns to Domnhaill in search of treasure. But he comes with more than a little trepedation. How will his ex-love Cristiana react to seeing him again? Does the rift caused by his brother's rape of her sister still stand? Cristiana has similar worries, and even more as she has been raising the issue of that ill-fated tryst, and is loathe to let the child go. In fact she would move heaven and earth to keep from doing so. So Duncan on her doorstep is the last thing she needs, nor the feelings he inspires within her....
This was a pretty good read. I enjoyed the characters and the dynamic of the relationship. The fact that they were supposed to wed but then that was halted and then coming back together and dealing with the hurt and rejection and trust. I always enjoy reading a book more when the characters are likable and I am hoping for them to find happiness. Both of the main characters were flawed but likable. The siblings....not so much.
This is the first book of Joanne Rock's that I've read and I must say that I really enjoyed it. There's loads of passion between Duncan and Cristiana and I found myself enveloped within the storyline. I don't want to give away any of the book but the only reason why I didn't give it a five star has to do with the Leah character. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Rock.
An interesting historical romance. The characters are pretty well developed and I found no typos. Can't say I would recommend it, but it was a nice pleasant trashy romance. To the garage sale with you!
