Roman #3

Where the Ivy Hides

Rate this book
All I’ve ever had is myself. I can’t tell you who I am, where I came from, or who I’m fucking made of. I was ripped from the only happy I’d ever known, but I can’t recall what it was…I just know part of me is now void, left hollow. How do you know who you are if you don’t even know your own flesh and blood? How do you trust those in your life, when the deception lies among you? How do you know if you don’t belong if you’re in the only place you’ve ever called home? There was nothing I could do but survive…in my own way. This is my story…this is Where the Ivy Hides.*This book contains explicit descriptions of violence, disturbing situations, and very strong language. This book is intended for MATURE AUDIENCE MEMBERS ONLY, and NOT intended for the weak at heart.*

Who is Kimber? Shit, sometimes even I don't know, lmao. However, if I can only say one thing for certain about myself, it's this: I'm real, I don't back down from what I believe, I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. I don't bite my tongue and I never try to hide the ugly parts of who I am... You either love me or hate me, but if you love me... I'll always be loyal, no fucking matter what ;)
I can be called a billon different things—daughter, wife, mother, Registered nurse. I'm a book blogger, book pimp, and a book whore. My two indulgences in life are my two Jack's: Jack Daniel's and Blackjack.
I was born and raised in Louisiana… and No, I do NOT live in a bayou, I actually see the beaches on the gulf coast more than I see a bayou. I started writing poems and short stories very early in my life. I've been a book hoarder since I was eleven years old, but then a couple years ago something wonderful happened! My inner smut whore came to life and I commenced to read anything and everything smut affiliated. When reading wasn't enough anymore and I noticed that so many of the authors of my favorite genres were indie authors and their books weren't getting the exposure their work deserved, I turned it into a mission, starting my own blog, buying their books and reading them one by one. I then wrote my reviews for my blog and didn't hold back in writing them (Hell yeah those motherfuckers a profanity laden). I've never done a single thing in my life half-ass. I always go all in. After the success of my Blog, I was ready to finally take the plunge and see if I could write a book that was worth a damn. I'm a Southern girl to my core, a self-proclaimed smut whore, and I can't believe I now have over ten books on Amazon, much less that I did it: I’m an author, but honestly… I don’t believe the rumors, lol. I don’t feel like a kickass bitch spittin’ out lyrics, or stories, like a motherfuckin’ rockstar.
Tattooed across my ribs are the words I have always lived by: 'Aut viam inveniam aut faciam tibi.' Latin for: If I cannot find a way, I will make my own.
If you want to contact me, give me a shout out at 3am because my story just decimated your work day potential, or hell if you want to stalk me (I’ve met some of my BFF’s that way, don’t judge a stalker, they are awesome, fun, kickass bitches) follow me on these links:

It had been quite some time since I read the first two 'Roman' books, but I remembered the startling brutality and gore. They were two of the darkest books that I've read. So, naturally, I expected the third book, 'Where the Ivy Hides' to be equally terrifying.

Instead, this third book had a completely different feel to it. Don't get me wrong, there was some disturbing content, but nothing like what you'd expect. The few dark topics that were brought up were addressed in a roundabout kind of way, leaving much to the reader's imagination vs. describing every disturbing act in vivid detail the way it was in the first two books.

This book is focused on the life of Winter Ivy, the kidnapped daughter of Roman and Mac/Mouse. From childhood onward, her life is filled with tragedy and suffering. Unsurprisingly, she turns to alcohol and drugs to escape the pain of her daily existence.

Time and time again, Ivy succumbs to the numbness that her drugs provide. She repeatedly pulls herself up, only to fall again, plummeting further each time. She wrecks nearly every relationship she has, in addition to ruining her health.

Through it all, Ryker is her constant. He rescues her over and over again, only to have her rip his heart out. Why he put up with her was beyond me. If Ryker had an addiction, it was Ivy.

When an accident lands her in the hospital, she is suddenly reunited with her long lost parents and younger brother, Rome. If you're expecting the Rome and Mac from earlier books, you won't find them here. Apparently, they've settled down, resembling the Cleavers more than the homicidal duo we loved and feared in equal measure. The word "domesticated" comes to mind.

I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that there were a lot of issues left unresolved. Many things, like how her parents suddenly showed up in her hospital room, or how her brother supposedly knew where she had been for years, were left unexplored. I'm a details person, so that really bugged me. I wanted those holes filled in.

While Ivy was a tough character to love, she did grow on me. I couldn't help but feel for her, even as I was frustrated with her addictive behavior patterns. I wanted to shake her often, but I also wanted to hug her.

As a whole, I thought this was a great book, even though it was quite different from the first two books in the series. There were several grammatical errors and editing oversights, which were distracting at times. However, I still enjoyed this story.

If you're a fan of the 'Roman' series, I'd recommend this book. Just don't expect this story to be similar to the earlier books. It is entirely different, but does provide closure.

***** 5 Hard Love Stars *****

"You cannot catch what doesn't want to be caught."

This is book 3 in Kimber S. Dawn's raw and gritty ROMAN SERIES.

I have to admit this book frustrated (a good frustration) me on every emotional level. I felt more things during this book than I have felt during any story in a long time. By the end of this one, I was emotional gutted and my heart took several minutes to calm down.

 photo PicsArt_12-10-10.46.34_zpsmlv5nbwf.jpg

Winter Ivy is the daughter of Roman and Heather from books 1 and 2. Ivy is a very lost and broken woman. She has lived most of her life without her parents. Being taken away at the age of 3, only being told that her momma was sick and her daddy was helping her to get better. She waited and waited to finally be brought home, only that never happened.

Ivy never felt love from her "new" family. She never seeked loved from anyone. No one filled her void from within except, drugs and alcohol.

As Ivy lived her life on the edge of destruction, she met Ryker.

 photo 605b1ef8-37b3-44bc-b549-0769a133a98d_zpspsiw7zek.jpg

Ryker has loved Ivy from the very first day he saw her. Ivy was also different and he loved her raw, in your face style. But loving Ivy never came easy. With ever ounce of love he tried to give Ivy, she pushed him further away only to pull him back when her she felt the need to feel his love.

 photo PicsArt_12-10-11.14.48_zpsknnbmqyp.jpg

As Ryker and Ivy's love and life spiral out of control. Ivy does the only thing she knows how to do...walks away. But walking away leads to a horrible accident for Ivy. An accident that changes the path of her life and everyone she is close to.

Ivy's past life collides with her present life. Her real parents and big brother find her and the lies of her past are exposed. Already the broken woman she is, she fights her battles with drugs and alcohol once a again. The only way for her to move on with her life is with the man she walked away from. Admitting this for Ivy is impossible.

"I love the chaos that is he. He is everything. And nothing else matters but him. Nothing."

Ivy and Ryker are reunited but not without obstacles. Huge obstacles that will test the love each has for other. Ryker admits his love for Ivy every step of the way and Ivy fights it. Letting go will be her toughest obstacle but the end reward is amazing.

Thank you so much Miss Dawn. As frustrated as I was with the emotional turmoil and self destructing story of Ivy. The entirety of this story was emotional beautiful all the same and I LOVED IT!!

The Roman Series is MUST read.

I have loved all the Roman books, but this one... I just couldn't get into it. Ivy is just...ugh... the most tortured character. And it's not that I'm unsympathetic to her plight. She's had some shit things happen to her in her life, but there comes a time when you have to pick yourself up and own your mistakes, make the best of what you got. Ivy just keeps spiraling, pushing away everyone that loves her or wants to help her, and there's only so many pages I can read of that before I start thinking enough is enough.

I wont waste my time giving you the details of this story, you have the synopsys for that. But what i will do , is tell you how i felt reading it and why the author earned all 5 stars she deserved! 1. As an avid reader, especially of dark romance, I have been a Kimber fan since the first book I was lucky enough to stumble upon of hers which, coincidentally was Roman. After reading it, I quickly absorbed one of her reads after another until I finished every one. Roman and his Redemption are my all time favorite dark reads, so I have been anxiously awaiting my next dose of Kimber with Where The Ivy Hides. And I'll tell you, I was not let down at all, but even totally surprised!
2. The third book in this trilogy is so unlike the first two in that our character grapples more with her own psyche than the total mindf*** that Roman and II were. It is in so many ways a differant, softer kind of read. But in so many others is so much alike. Kimber still beautifully weaves the tale of a forever love within the chaos that is Ivy. Her natural ability for creative writing and the talent she envokes at emotionally gripping her readers still astounds me! Her creations are so relatable and like a magician she takes 26 little letters and morphs them into beauty!
3. Ivy and Ryker's narrative is a full out emotional rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. Sometimes you love Ivy and find your her biggest fan cheering her from the side lines and at other times you just really want to shake her and slap the s*** out of her! Knowing what she has lived thru not only tugs on your heart strings but by the final chapters, you come to a place of understanding of how she has had to grow in order to finally achieve her eternal happiness.
4. And Ryker...ah, where in the hell do we find one of him??!! Hes not only a walking sex god from his physique to his accent but his unwavering loyalty and undying love for Ivy makes him the hero all women want! Sheesh!! Just cant get enough of Ry!
5. I absolutely loved seeing Roman and Mac's long over due reunion with the missing piece of their puzzle!! Those two still hold a special place in my heart and it was like sitting down for tea and catching up with some old friends again! I had missed them!
I'm intrigued by the back plot that is Roman Jr or 'Rome' and would be completely for him getting his own spinoff tale. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen but I have a feeling he has his own story to tell. looking forward with much anticipation to whatever falls next from the creative genius of Ms. Dawn!! photo image_zpskezfqopx.gif

Then he linked our hands together, pressed his forehead against mine, and begged me, “Ivy love, please. Just marry me today. I won’t be able to live this life without you, hon. I know because I already tried.”

If you're hoping that this book will be like the first two Roman books you'll be sorely disappointed. Its not very dark. However, if you want to find out what happened to Winter Ivy and see more of Roman and Heather you'll love it.

It was a crazy ride. Ivy dies a bit more every day. Her life is full of chaos but thank goodness for Ryker. OMG I love Ryker. She’s an addict with the worst friends possible trying to stay above water whenever she believes her life is worth it. Great story even though now and again I hated her.

Ivy's like a wounded abandoned animal. All she knows is to fight, all she's ever known is how to survive. I don't know if she'll ever make room in her heart for useless things like love, honesty, and devotion. But she'll always be the girl me heart's devoted to. ~Ryker

What more than darkness and chaos could we expect from the daughter of Roman Payne? Winter Ivy Payne, a troubled yet pure and beautiful soul grew up in a jaded home and continued to live a jaded and tainted life. Ryker Killian, the "bad boy on the motorcycle" and Irish hottie continuously saves her- puts her back together until the next time she destroys herself- and then picks up the pieces again. Their love and turbulent relationship began early on and spanned across 10 years. Can a damaged person find her happily ever after?

Before I even started this book I knew I would like it... after Roman II I was invested in the characters. Invested in their lives and even I'd read a book of them meandering around or living their daily lives- they grew on me. No matter what- I wanted to know what happened next and in this addition I found out.

I thought Ivy was a really strong character- her essence is captured perfectly within the pages. She is portrayed how I feel a real addict would act- she's such a sweet and loving person but comes across cold and selfish cause she eyes her next fix. But, overall she realizes she is the one who can save herself- and let Ryker catch her. Ryker and Ivy were the most angst-filled couple- they didn't thrive without chaos, yet the chaos was also the culprit that would send them astray. Every time they found each other again my heart strings would sing... I loved their passion and chemistry. Even though Ryker was too good for Ivy- she still deserved him. *swoon*

Ryker David Killian is chaos. He's everywhere and in everything. He drives me mad. He uses me up then leaves me for dead, and I'm okay with that. Because as long as we're here, right now, and I am his everything, then nothing else matters. Nothing. ~Ivy

(I loved Reese too) Okay I admit it.

There were a few things that fell a little flat to me- in the beginning of the book Ivy looked upon Aunt Blythe with almost pity and didn't hate her- yet in the end she was indifferent and had no concern- I couldn't understand how she could have no concern for the woman who raised her at all-kidnapped or not. Also, Roman and Heather were not their "usual" selves in this book...maybe because they were only in the background but they seemed rather creepy (or maybe it's their old age?)

I have to say I think Rome may have been my favorite... I have a lot of questions about him and his life. I want to know more! I want his story... PLEASE!! begging here...gimme Rome!!

Below may contain a mild spoiler

Although this book was far different than Roman I and II...I was pleasantly surprised at the writing style. I went into this thinking Ivy would turn out to be a serial killing machine like her father but was happy to find out she was a pure yet troubled soul, looking for love- the love of herself in all the wrong places.

4 stars & highly recommend...but you'll have to make it through Roman I and II first...

I jumped into Where The Ivy Hides with so much anticipation because I loved it's two predecessors and I very much loved the story Ivy told. We find out what became of her life after she was kidnapped and ride with her on the rollercoaster that is her life.

I won't lie I did struggle a little to begin with with the change of pace and the fact that this story is not as dark as the two before and everything I loved about the two previous books weren't dominant in Ivy's story but then she didn't grow up with Roman and Heather. That being said I think you have to leave those feelings aside and read it for what it is and that's Ivy's story. She has her struggles and she falls in love and you get caught up in that very quickly.

It's definitely worth reading and I loved it. Once I was engrossed I had to see how it all ended and I wasn't disappointed at all. There were new characters to fall in love with and reappearances from much loved old faces.

This was an OK end to this series. although, I would love to read about Roman II but only if he takes after his dad. I don't know what i expected from this book but I felt that something was missing. It felt super rushed and a lot of things were sort of glossed over like I was expecting to read the family's reactions to thinks and even Ivy's reactions to certain major things and it was either not addressed at all or glossed over.

I can understand Ivy's addiction and liked how that was written. Ryder sure took a beating, after a while i was hoping that he would get over Ivy cause the poor guy man.

When I heard Kimber was writing ivy's story I was so freakin excited! And Kimber did not disappoint! Knowing who Ivy's parents were and her history I was so curious to see how Ivy would grow up. Of course she's going to have a ton of issues, but this book was nothing I would have expected. I loved every part of it. Ivy's life struggles, her relationships with her family and lovers and her own demons pulled me in right away. I don't want to give too much of the story away, so you'll just need to read and see how everything plays out.

The first two in this series are one of my all time favorites. They were a complete and total mind fuck that left me wiped out/ a massive book hang over, even today a few years later when I think of a dark read Roman comes to mind first.
That said while this was an ok read it just didn't do it for me. I know the fucked up life winter ivy had but the addiction and self destruction actually started to get annoying. I had to put the book down and come back to it a few times.

This book was nothing like I would have expected from Kimber!  Roman I and II are much different. Not in content but style.  If your familiar with her writing style, you know she keeps it real dark and graphic.  This is Raw, it's Gripping and far from unicorns and rainbows.  Kimber killed it with her take on contemporary romance. Ivy is a complicated, stubborn determined woman. She will always find a way to cope and push away anything or anyone that gets to close.  She isn't the girl that's gonna pour her heart out to you. No,  words of affirmation are not her love language!  IVY is who she is.  Take it or leave it,  and she still may turn her back and walk away from you.
Ryker was her Superman and her Kryptonite. Always there to pick up the pieces.  The one person that got her to listen if only for a minute.  Never giving up on her.  He loved her hard! Her Rescuer that just took her at face value. Until one day he didn't.
This a story about life. Not the kind anyone dreams of. The kind you never want to experience. It's painful,  selfish, and unnerving. It's complicated perfect chaos!  Like I said,  it's how Kimber S. Dawn does Love and it's Real as Fuck!
Pick up your copy today and let her amaze you too!

Ah dam.. its painful when you love every one of these beautiful tragic works this Author puts forth, but this one just did not pull me in.

I desperately wanted to fall for Ivy or even feel something for her, I tried, maybe it was the repetitive life she lived, I had to read about it over and over, one chapter after another. Nothing ever changed. The push and pull, off again/on again love affair between Ivy and Ryker was monotonous, I found it to tedious to love either of them.

Maybe it was to many characters, same sorta lovers, the same type of boyfriends that you could not differentiate one from the other. Maybe its because I only wanted ROMAN.

Ivy's story was to hard to relate to, I couldn't recognize or ascertain why she struggled so hard with changes, with just growing up and moving on. Yes I understand what she went through, yes she is a strong survivor, but survive already.

Thank you Kimber for spreading awareness to us all about the dangers abduction does to one psyche for this is the redeeming quality I found in this book. xo

Ending to a Trilogy

I have to say this story was a great beginning dark read and a story that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. This is like the ending to so many dark reads split into multiple stories the effort to create a HEA seems to dwindle out the spark of the first part of the story. This story while going through the the hurt confused mind of young woman with many hardships kind of had me losing track a few times. Maybe it was the natural thought pattern of the heroine but switching sometimes from one scene to the next lost me. There were some typos also that had me wondering if that's what she meant to say. All in all it took a different direction to the first part which was a kind of cliff hanger ending. To me if you are going to do a spin off you have to complete the first story or allow the second one to complete the first story. Good enough attempt.

Where The Ivy Hides by Kimber S Dawn
Rating: 4 Stars

Like the title says, the book speaks of Ivy. Our dear Ivy from book 2. The one kidnapped and we've not seen her since then. Come see how she's grown.

The star of the book is Ivy. Ivy and all her insecurities. Her strength. Her love. I adored her even when she was at her lowest, I cheered for her when she conquered the world.

Ryker is the sweetest man alive. I...I just can't say how much. That Irish accent though... *swoons*

I'll say it doesn't hold my attention as much as book 1 & 2 did, but it's still pretty good. I readily accept the heart stabbing moments and curse and swear to the point I almost threw my Kindle in frustration. Good frustration, mind you. That ending almost killed me but I knew Ivy would pull through.

Seeing Roman and Mackenzie again, I just sighed. Roman, Roman is here!! And he's such an awesome daddy. Oh, Rome too. I can't believe it. The whole family reunion. Damn.

Review of Where the Ivy Hides by Kimber S. Dawn
My Rating 5 Whip-lashing Stars!

Every-time I dive into one of Kimber’s books I know I’m in for one hell of a ride, and once again I’m not disappointed one I O-da!
The storyline of Ivy and Ryker was not a smooth journey. Ivy is stubborn and a very determined woman. Ryker is the kind of man who is always there when you need to put your life back in order. It’s a wild ride of “Did I read that right” We are given another Push-Pull, Raw, Intense, Captivating, Gripping read. One I will not give anything close to a spoiler on, due to this is a “must read yourself” page after page and experience the journey. Kimber has a gift of grabbing you from the first page and she keep you in her clutches until the final page and even them she leaves me wanting more of whatever she is writing. Grab a copy for yourself, find your favorite place to read and “Live the Experience of Kimber’s writings.”

Kimber has brought the story to a whole new level! I was floored by the emotions in this story, one minute you are WTF, then WHY, to AWE!!

The main characters of the story are Ivy and Ryke. Ivy grows up in a life full of disappointments and regrets . She is trying just to survive but gets stuck with let downs that make you feel her pain. In walks Ryke in her life, such a yummy Irishman! He is her backbone, but one thing with Ivy is trust issues. Everything that happens in this story revolves around her lack of trust.

You need to read this story like yesterday! The emotions will blow you away and if you art this in the evening like myself- forget about sleeping, not going to happen!

I need to find me an Irishman to call me, "love!"

Loved it, but...

** contains slight spoilers that I felt couldn't be avoided**

I've read Roman 1 & 2 and they were fantastic books. In fact, this book three, was a really good book. But imma little confused. I felt like I missed a 2.5 book somewhere? It's been a while since I read book 2, but I don't recall Mac getting rescued at the end of book 2? Am I suffering memory loss in my old age?

This book was about Mac and Romans daughter, Ivy. It really was a great story- of heartbreak, addiction, loss and love and happiness. I feel like you can read this book and not 1 or 2 because and keep up with the story. With that said, when do we find out Mac and Romans happy ending? Clearly there is one after reading this book, but it was kinda a left field surprise.

Confused

I thought Roman 1 and 2 were brilliant. They were worthy of 5 stars no doubt about it. This was a well written story with good character development but I just didn't get it. The first two took us to the darkest depth of depravity, at times I didn't know if I could take it. Book 2 ended with mouse joining Roman in his dark revenge, so what happened in book three? Everyone was happy go lucky no more crazy..yes ivy had her trust and drug issues,
But u don't just stop the kind of Crazy that was in 1 and 2. I just didn't understand the complete style change.
I felt like I was reading a different series.

Definitely not what I expected, but that's not always a bad thing. I feel like I can't even include any quotes without giving anything away. I read the first part of the book under the wrong impression, nice one, Kimber ;) Up until part two, I was kinda pissed. You'll see why. So many emotions, so many surprises. Loved revisiting Roman, and meeting Rome. I would definitely like to see more of him. Ryker...oh my. Loved him.
Awesome read.

Certainly not as dark as the previous two books in the series, but fear not, it's still a really good read.

Although the title indicates it will be Ivy's story, I won't lie, I was a tad disappointed that Roman and Mac (Ivy's parents) didn't feature more in this book, as I was still so invested with these characters. That said, after getting over this, I was captivated with Ivy's tale. We witness her daily struggles with demons past and present and the beautiful but at times painful relationship that she has with Ryker, the man that has been it her life since childhood, but one that she would never openly allow all of her heart.

Definitely a must read!

I was fortunate enough to read all the books in this trilogy back to back. So after reading Roman 1 & 2, and enjoying them as much as I did, ( I actually really really love them), I was so excited to see how the whole story would come together in this last book. I was excepting a conclusion to Roman and Heather's story. Instead, this story wasn't about that, and for that reason I'm a bit disappointed with this one. The beginning was a bit confusing, and the time line jumped around quite a bit. I would have enjoyed it more if it was written as a standalone, rather than the last book of the trilogy. That being said…I still enjoyed Where the Ivy Hides very much.

Dealing with the only way she knows how, she escaped her life to find her long lost parents who haven't stopped looking for her ever.
As of then , Ivy's-life started changing and taking the shspe she wanted it with the only exception of having her true love Ryker.

Their love was strong and Ryker, ever the fixer, managed to get back his 2 girls to his side.

THAT WAS AWESOME Ms KIMBERLY S. DAWN!!!!

Waited so long for this book that I had to go back and read the first two, to refresh my memory. Ivy was kidnapped as a baby. If she'd ask about her parents, she was put into a wooden box. Growing up , Ivy learned to numb herself with drugs. Ryker has loved her from the day he laid eyes on her. I love this character, he's a mountain that Ivy will have to climb to work through all her problems. What a great ending for the Romans Trilogy!!!!!

Where the Ivy Hides

I loved this series of books. Please read Roman first then Roman II I promise if you like dark you will love these books. Lumber S Dawn's writing reminds me of Julia Huss, and C. D. Reiss's writing. These are my two favorite authors so I don't think I can give you a higher review (comparison) then these two authors. So yes buy these books you won't be disappointed.

Smile, Pause, Breath.... It's that Good!

First of all I had no idea there was a third book in this series until just a few days ago..... 5 1/2 yrs after I read the first 2. So of course I had to read #1 & 2 over again before I read this book. I'm so happy I did too.
I was devistated that Roman & Heather had their baby girl taken in book 2 and thrilled they had a boy. So to read this story and find out that it took so, so long for Ivy to finally come back to her family and to learn about what she went through to get there was eye opening. So many feels with this story it was making my head spin but I'm so glad I finally got to see all the HEA's for this family.
