Victoria Bennett is in control and in charge all day every day, but sometimes she needs help. One of those times is when she needs to organize a romantic proposal weekend for her client, and the only person available to help her is the notorious heartbreaker Nathan Grant.
Victoria knows she shouldn’t fall for guys like Nathan, but that hasn’t prevented her from lusting after him all these years. It’s just one weekend on the beach, away from everyone they know, alone with the guy who could cause her perfectly coordinated world to crumble. Shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Mina V. Esguerra writes contemporary romance and young adult novellas. She has a bachelor's degree in Communication and a master's degree in Development Communication, put to good use in her work as trainer and content management consultant. Mina lives in Metro Manila, Philippines, with her husband and daughter.
She finds inspiration in the lives and experiences of other people, so the answer to "Is this story based on you?" is always, always "No."
I’ve read almost all of Mina V. Esguerra’s books since the paperback release of My Imaginary Ex and haven’t stopped since then. She’s one of those authors that I have to thank for making me embrace the works of local authors, specifically romance books.
Now for her new novella, Tempting Victoria. To start off, I really loved the cover even better now! It’s very Victoria and Nathan! Eeeee!!! The story itself didn’t fall short from any of my expectations. The title exactly captured the entire story. (Get the book once it’s out so you’d know why!) Perfectly-paced events all throughout, a little bit of back stories here and there, the chemistry plus good buildup, hot guy with brains, intelligent and knows-what-she-wants woman, the banter between the two characters (that had me stifling my laughs because the whole household was already asleep), conflict, even the supporting characters (Haley and… friends?)—basically: awesome with lots of temptation involved.
I liked Victoria. She knows music, plans events really well, has self-imposed rules, is very organized and detached to human feelings (and therefore had to resist Nathan’s panty-melting charms). Haha! Aaaand, she’s still in college! There were times though that I wanted to slap Victoria just to wake her up because clearly she has to. I mean, hello Victoria? Why don’t you try to get to know the person first before judging him? Before you make false assumptions? But I get where Victoria’s coming from. She didn’t want to be that girl but I just hoped she let herself see things on her own and not decide on things based on some random chic gossips. She’s totally relatable though so it’s cool.
And then there was Nathan—the seemingly disgustingly perfect 23-year old (WTH I’m a year older than him!) gentleman who could be a diving instructor, guitar player, cake maker, all-around smart and nice guy with his rules by day and a true lover by night. I liked that he knew how to be with Victoria and just be himself whenever they’re together. And knew how to get what he wanted!
I admit to screaming “PLEASE, NATHAN AND VICTORIA, JUST BE FREAKIN TOGETHER ALREADY AND BREAK ALL YOUR OWN DAMN RULES SINCE YOU’RE BOTH SO GOOD AT IT” in my head because like I said: good. conflict!
The novella-length of this book didn’t make it any less stunning for me. In fact, I immensely enjoyed it! Thanks to Mina and to the way her words being age appropriate (just enough amount of smut) and flowing through naturally. Her writing now was different (comparing to her Summit-pubbed books) but it was the good different (at the back of mind I was like woah Mina is this you? Go woman! More please!) and surely something I’ll keep coming back to for more.
Tempting Victoria is published by Flirt Publishing and was previously titled/self-pubbed as Rules We Like Breaking.
It's one of my favorite among her books, but I haven't read all so I reserve my judgement.
This is the first story I read from the "Love's A Beach Bundle". Once you start you aren't able to put it down. It's a shame if you did because it's only fourteen chapters! Such a quick read but a great one. My only complaint was that it was too short. I could have read on and on about Victoria and Nathan. The character's were engaging and delightfully entertaining. I loved the chemistry between them.
The story follows Victoria Benneth, a strong, smart, overly organized and lived-by-set-of-rules female lead who value her 'public image' so much though she was downright falling after lusting for the love interest Nathan Grant a.k.a Mr. Piranha.
He is the bomb. He was the perfect misunderstood freaking specimen ever. I wouldn't lie having Nick B. as the peg for Nathan sealed the 5 five stars.
Set in the paradise beach of Cozumel. Victoria sought for Nathan's help to organize a wedding proposal for her client.
The sparks that fly between them make the already burning lust, even more exciting. Seduction is effortless. The sexy lovemaking scenes and the rawness of it all makes me like it even more. This is a story that has more plot than sex.
They are expecting nothing but giving everything. Nathan tested her boundaries. He let her set them but then respected them.
And after all the chasing games the two of them play, we get a very fast, tie-up the loose ends HEA. Le sigh.
While I enjoyed the book, I couldn't help but thought of Ellie and Lucas from her other book Faiy Tale Fail. Go figure.
This is a sweet and steamy journey as 'nothing' turned into 'everything' if you'll just let yourself live in the moment and not overly organize things.
Overall, the story might have been fast paced and short, but it was still captivating and engaging to read.
If you are looking for an easy, spicy and feel good read then give this book a try.
I read the first book of this series Playing Autumn and reviewed it when it was first released as an indie book. Looking at my review again, I realize that I was gushing more about the New Adult feels than the romance, which says a lot about me. Victoria featured prominently in Playing Autumn, and finally we see a bit more of her backstory!
But Tempting Victoria had all the elements of a fun, no frills beach read--an exotic location, just the right amount of sexual tension, actual sex, and a grand gesture in the end (I may or may not be talking about the proposal Victoria's organizing!). I am a huge fan of bickering couples falling in love, and this one hit all the right notes (ooh, music pun!). Victoria had such a strong idea of who Nathan was and who he should be, that when he broke himself down to her, she found herself pleasantly surprised by the result.
I love that they have zero expectations of each other. Victoria would never easily believe in happily ever after forever, but the ending opened up that possibility for them both because they gave so much of themselves to the other.
It's a light and fun beach read that's begging to be turned into an audio book (wink wink, Mina!) I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something light and fun to bring to the beach. Just in case you feel like living like fiction. ;)
Victoria Bennett is focused on her career and lives by her own set of rules. One of those rules has her steering clear of the heart-breaking womanizer Nathan Grant. But just because she can't touch doesn't mean she hasn't been oogling him for years just like the rest iof the women on campus. When Victoria needs Nathan's help to pull off one of her events in Mexico, she breaks all of her rules and ends up in his arms. Determined not to become another notch in his bedpost she puts him and their steamy sessions behind when they leave the beach.
This was a really short novella with a rushed ending and I couldn't really get into the story. Victoria's defense against Nathan's charms that was blown away by a sexually charged conversation and him playing the guitar didn't really feel realistic to me. Also, Nathan keeping in touch with a woman for a year when she continually kept blowing him off, didn't fit with his character either. This was a cute, faced-paced, insta-love novella but it just wasn't for me.
I finished this book hours only after I bought it. That should say a lot about how easy it is get into and how much I was into it. I liked Victoria, how unapologetic she is and how she could hold her own, and I also liked Nathan, who is passionate yet misunderstood. Watching them break their self-assigned rules to make way to have each other was also, um, entertaining because this happened early on in the first few chapters, which got me excited like whoa~ (I mean, temptation island, what's uuup!) HOWEVER, Thankfully, there's a really sweet, bordering on diabetes sweet, bonus short story afterwards, which helped raise this edition's rating to three stars.
