He was the epitome of masculinity -- and rich as sin. But with midlife approaching, Texas baron Hank Langley was in sore need of a wife. And finding a Mrs. Langley from the bevy of social-climbing beauties was a challenge even for this ex-military man.
Until Callie Riley, his new, much-younger secretary, breezed into his life and took Hank's hardened heart by storm. Suddenly he was learning more about love than he'd ever thought possible. Could the millionaire convince this fresh-faced country girl to say "I do" to an older man?
The Texas Cattleman's Club: Five wealthy Texas bachelors -- all members of the state's most exclusive club -- set out on a mission to rescue a princess... and find true love.

I wanted to read this because it is the first in the Texas Cattleman's Club series. Hank is a mature man at 39 an the approach of his 40th birthday is making him antsy about settling down. He has two woman in mind but can't decide between them. Mature women in their thirties who know the score.
When Callie turns up as his relieving secretary, he is bowled over by this very young yet straight talking young woman. But she is 22 years old. Far too young even if she wasn't the beloved grand-niece of the woman who practically brought him up.
Of course they are thrown together and when they have to travel to her home propinquity plays a part. I quite enjoyed this take on the May-December story line which I love. Hank was hot but a little naive about women. Callie was very interesting. This is the second Dixie Browning book I've read and I find her southern women a little different to what I'm used to. Callie is not highly educated but she is hard working and a natural nurturer.
Altogether an enjoyable read and I will follow up on the rest of the series as I come across them. Fortunately they are being released as eBooks.
So... that was that! Honestly, I've been so curious about the origins of certain lines/series and I'm fascinated by category so I just dived into the origins of the Texas Cattleman's Club. It was sort of exactly what you would expect and it had a southern charm, not too crazy or big for its boots but just enough. Romance wise... It was! If I'm being honest I had no idea where the romance started and I was like... what the hell, sure. This felt like watching Dynasty without all the boring business talk and I had a fun time. Will I ever reread this? Probably not. Will I continue with the series? Yeah, these books absolutely accomplish what they need to and that's giving the reader a short fun time.
Hmm... This was ok. 2.5 more than 3 stars. I read it because it's the beginning of the Texas Cattleman's Club series and its various spin-offs, some of which I've already read. I liked the characters, but the romance was very rushed. I read a lot of books with insta-love, and I don't have a problem with the concept, but there wasn't even insta-love here--it was just so bland and passionless.
In general it's a good book. But... unfortunately I didn't feel the chemistry between the H and the h. I liked the H, but there is something off about the h I didn't like it.
*Long Age gap between MOC * Hero is older than Heroine * Temporary Secretary falls for the hero * Heroine is witty * Hero is hunting for a wife * Lacks the chemistry between MOC
I liked this story and I liked the characters butt I have to say I didn't really connect with the them. Regardless I liked the characters and how the other character's in the series were set up, I can't wait to read Sterling and Susan's book.
