Kael Saunders, MI6 specialist operative and leather Daddy, has been living with Angel Button, his sub, for two years in a loving D/s relationship. Angel has been waiting for the time when he too can join MI6, knowing that his sniper skills make him a valuable asset to the organization. Kael loves to kill, it gives him an adrenalin rush, but Angel is certain his Daddy only eliminates those who pose a threat to national security, which is what Angel wants to do. Naive and idealistic, Angel wants to make the world a better place.
Angel’s beliefs are sorely tested a few days later, leaving him unsure if he wants to be an MI6 agent after all. When Kael is given an assignment in Cornwall, he takes Angel with him so they can have a weekend away. Angel finds out about the mission and the target and is left wondering if his Daddy is really the hero Angel thinks he is, placing their relationship in jeopardy.
Overall plot was excellent; it comes very much from the interaction and responses of the established characters, so it felt very natural and believable. One detail did strain my belief a little but imma let it go. The romantic resolution at the very end of the book felt disappointingly scrambly and unfocused, but at least we got there in the end.
A great addition to the series. Existing fans of Angel and Kael will love it.
I wish it hadn't taken me so long to finally read this last book in the series, but damn I enjoyed it! And I've got to say, I think it was the best one of them all.
How much Kael has changed over the course of this series! Of course Angel changes too, but Reckoning is more about Kael... and his story is so interesting. Fyn Alexander really has an amazing gift for seeing inside the mind of someone who sure seems to be living with Aspergers Syndrome.
The characters who surround Kael throughout this series, the way they interact and react to him, is really something unique, and incredibly beautifully written. If you're a fan of dark BDSM thrillers, with a hint of Daddy kink then the Angel and the Assassin series should be at the top of your tbr shelf.
This book is just like the others in the series, so utterly ridiculous and entertaining! Every time I read one of these books I'm reminded how fucked-up Kael is and he is seriously fucked-up!
I loved the sessions both he and Angel attended with Dr Reynolds, they were lots of fun to read. I liked Angel's continuing maturity and the development of the boys relationship as a whole, the whole caning incident was really good for them I think.
I'm not sure if more will be written for this series but I'm getting nervous about Kael and Angel's relationship and where it will head now that Angel is aware of the differences between his and Kael's moral (or lack there of) compass. It will NOT be good if he ever finds out Kael is the Black Widow.
I love the Angel and the Assassin series and was over the moon when this book came out. I enjoyed this one as much as the previous books and just hope there are more to come. Angel is as sweet and loving as ever, and I really enjoyed seeing this new, vulnerable side, to Kael.
I adore the Angel and the Assassin series and I was so happy when Reckoning appeared on the scene. Angel and Kael face personal problems as they continue to deal with the problems of the world. We again get to see characters from other books and it was great to know that those characters are now happy and healthy. I love catching up with old friends. Angel is beginning his formal training in this book but this training is abused and he is forced to deal with a situation that he should not have to face. This of course leads to difficulties in his personal relationship with Kael. The book kept me reading and I really hope that we will see more of Angel and his Assassin.
This dragged for me at the beginning. It’s the fourth book in the series and I want the set-up to be shorter and get to the action quicker. It’s also so steeped in Kael’s anger issues. Well, the whole story is, really. He’s pissed off about the father he doesn’t know gaining prominence as an important political figure in the world. He is held hostage by his anger and is adamant about not getting help for it. He keeps making the same mistakes with Angel. For all his professed smarts, Kael can’t see past his nose.
So, Kael comes off as a boorish bully and, like most of that ilk, his actions set up an atmosphere of negativity and fear. It’s his way, or the highway. He’s inflexible; he feels absolutely no moral scruples for his actions.
“The intimacy of thrusting a sharp blade into a man’s jugular vein gives me a sense of release, a feeling of absolute liberation that lifts me above the ordinary… That’s what I was seeking… Catharsis and euphoria.”
Kael believes he is above the law and fuck everyone who doesn’t like it. “Psychopath” comes close to describing him. So, this time around, even though he does struggle to get his act together, Kael’s appeal has tarnished.
Angel is another matter. His sweet exuberant spirit is just as endearing. And we see his excitement as he’s finally accepted into MI6; he can finally be more like his “Daddy” Kael. But even that is a double-edged sword for him. Be careful what you wish for certainly holds true here. We see Angel growing and questioning more.
”Maybe he expected too much of Daddy… MI6… never questioning the motives or frailties… having complete trust in both.
We see the effect that Kael’s issues have on Angel.
This addition to the series does have movement forward for both characters, but I was disappointed not to have more of a “reckoning” between Kael and his estranged father. I guess we’ll have to wait for the next book for that.
P.S. I like the women in this book. Kael’s mum and his shrink, Dr. Reynolds, are strong and no-nonsense figures.
Fyn Alexander is one sick F***! But, so am I that I voraciously absorb his works, especially this series. As per all the books in this series, this story was great. I'm fascinated as Angel's and Kael's relationship expands. I can't wait to see Angel in training or at university. I'm already waiting on the next book.
Where did my Daddy go? I loved Kael in the first three books in this series. He is a dominant who leans heavily towards the SM side of the house. He is dangerous and a licensed killer. As a wet works operative for MI6, he is a man who had no problems killing a person. He does not ask questions. He is a perfect weapon to use for problem disposal. He also owns a lovely boy, Angel button. Angel is looking to follow Daddy's footsteps because he wants to kill the bad people and be on the side of the good. This book is not a standalone and cannot be read without the first three books.
Here is what I like about this book. Showing how killing someone without knowing the details of the person can be problematic. This makes Kael think about if his killings need to be righteous kills. Because for Kael, he doesn't care about killing the bad guys. He kills because he needs it to function properly. If the person to be killed happens to be a bad guy, all the better. I also enjoy the rosy-coloured glasses ripped off from Angel's face. Angel learns the government cannot be trusted. I like how the relationship turns out between Kael and Stephen. Lastly, I really relish the action scenes with assassinations as well as the backstabbing. These are well set up and executed.
The BDSM in this story puts me ill at ease. It's not the acts themselves. I revel in the cage, humiliation, caning and paddling. What I do not enjoy is the intent. I do not like Kael's headspace when he punishes and tortures Angel and Stephen respectively. He is now a dominant I cannot trust. He crosses boundaries and becomes a dominant gone erratic. When kink threatens a person's livelihood and as a result impacts a person's ability to support their family, it is no longer okay for me. This is the biggest problem for me with Kael in the book. In some ways he is an abuser because he crosses the line and then he makes grandiose gestures to make the abused feel loved. This sets my teeth on edge because previously Kael does not come across this way.
The other piece that drags for me in the book is the interaction with Dr. Reynolds. Granted I'm bias and not overly fond of shrinks. I understand why Dr. Reynolds is in the book as well as why the "therapy" is required for Kael. Personally it goes on too long for me. Kael is a killer. I see nothing wrong with him enjoying his job and also not experiencing remorse for killing. I also see nothing wrong with being physically intimate with someone and then killing them. The book makes such a big deal about it. For a character like Kael, it isn't a problem and trying to force him to think and believe it is a problem rubs me wrong. For characters like Stephen and Angel, sure this is a problem for them and that's fine. Leave Kael out of it.
This book is well written with a cohesive plot. I did not appreciate the characters as much in this one which dampers my enjoyment in the book. This book is recommended for kinky suspense readers who enjoy Daddy kink mixed in with a ruthless killer.
3.5 Stars Not as good as the others, which bummed me out. Nothing exciting in the review but I'm hiding it anyway.
Not a bad book. I'll possibly read the next one, mostly because I adore Angel. I do love the idea of this pair. I do love 'Daddy' kink but I'm never great with series about the same characters, so there is that old 'maybe it's me' thing.
It has been a long time since I was in the world of Kael and Angel. They have now been together 2 years and Angel is having an early acceptance into MI6. Things happen along the way which prove that Kael is not always right and have Angel re-thinking whether he wants to join MI6. I think this was book 4 of 4 but to me it is crying out for an epilogue maybe 5 years into the future. Did Angel train for MI6 and go to Cambridge? What was their wedding like? Although we got our HEA there were still a few unfinished threads that I'd like an answer for.
I really enjoyed this finale (?) of the series and was easily able to pick up where I left off on book 3 that I finished years ago. That's because the characters were/are memorable--and that doesn't happen often for me these days.
Angel is still kind-hearted, open, and loving. Kael is still cold, unrepentant, and full of himself. But he loves his boy, the light of his life, and he spends a great deal of his time in this episode confused and upset because something happens to make Angel question both his own role as a trainee for M16 and Kael's role as an assassin.
If anyone had told me 10 years ago that two of my favorite characters would be a coldblooded assassin and his boy, who wanted to train to be a sniper assassin I would have called bull-shoot-o on them. But honestly, the author made them realistic and memorable, and in this installment, reinforced just how far Kael would go to allow Angel the freedom of choice.
Kudos! I highly recommend this series. #BDSM #age gap #men over 40 #daddy kink
This series has been languishing on my TBR to be finished for an eon. I'm super happy to finally get to finish this one off. It's always been a bit of a weird series for me as Daddy kink isn't one of my favorites, but Angel and Kael worked as a couple. This book has their relationship really starting to evolve. Angel is growing up and as much as he still wants that relationship with Kael he's becoming more sure of himself as well.
Of course everything has to go pear shaped at the agency and it throws Angel for a loop. Not everything is exactly as his idealized idea would like it to be and the last thing Kael wants is for his boy to lose that sweetness and innocent joy he has. Kael really struggles in this one. He's not one to ever really deal with his emotions in the first place and he feels like a ship out of water for most of this book.
I'm glad this series is one I can finally mark off my list, this was a sort of satisfying conclusion. There were still a lot of things about their future that were left up in the air, but the actual situation between the two men did feel like they were in a stable long term relationship that worked for both of them.
It’s been a while since we spent time with Kael and Angel, in fact it was so long that I went back to read the first three in the series. After reading all four of them virtually in one continuous run I think Reckoning stands out as my favourite.
Kael and Angel had a difficult and peculiar start to their relationship and we are now two years on from when they met and things are still very different and oddly peculiar. They live quite a strict D/s relationship, there is a significant age gap, Kael kills for a living though his work for MI6 and Angel is as different from his ‘daddy’ as chalk is to cheese – but they work!
There is a lot to contend with in this latest book. Kael is left reeling with the discovery of his father and it seems every way he turns the man’s popularity is growing and the world seems to be conspiring to make this happen. With that in mind even Angel has a hand in helping the Russian who raped Kael’s mother along and Kael is left frustrated and angry.
I liked seeing Angel grow up a bit this time round. He was still besotted with Kael but not blindly and he began to question some of the aspects of their lives. Kael handles this badly finally proving to himself, his psychiatrist and the reader that he isn’t perfect and thus causing him even more problems.
I’ve grow quite fond of Conran it seems and enjoyed seeing his brother get what was due to him. The chief was another one who deserved what came his way for putting Angel in the predicament he found himself. The resolution at the end of the book made me think this was the last in the series but it was certainly left open enough for the series to continue.
I enjoyed catching up with Kael and Angel – if you haven’t read this series you need to start at the beginning for it to make sense.
Fyn deserves a lengthy review. I wrote one. I accidentally deleted it. Poop. I was very excited to read a continuation of Angel & Kael's story. It was brilliant....but my understanding of who Kael is after this changed and I'm SO frustrated with Angel's persistent naiveté. I was pleasantly surprised by the scenes between Conrad and Kael *in my best Mr. Slave voice: Jesus Christ* Oh and the psychiatrist needs to have her license revoked. For seriously. I really wanted to LOVE this...I just liked it a lot. I did reread it almost instantly and that's what I enjoy about Fyn's writing. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything and savor the experience. I wonder what else she's writing....
I think you'll like this book! I loved getting an update on Fox I fell in love with him in Rentboy. As always I love Angel and his and Kael's relationship really develops in this book. Also you get to see a new side to Kael that only made me love him more. I really hope book 5 comes out soon I can't get enough of Angel.
please please please. . don't make me wait another 3-4 years until next book!!
Kael and Angel.. I can not get enough of them. Thay are one of my favourite couples in the whole mm genre. and this one is very nice addition to the series.
I love these guys and I'm sad to see the series end.
Angel and Kael are the kind of couple that you either love or hate. I've loved them from the start. At times I've hated Kael but I've always known they were meant to be together. This book was tougher to read then the others. There was more conflict between them and more outside influence. It broke my heart how Angel's naivety was callously stripped from him. I never thought I'd cry reading this series but I did for Angel. I liked that we got to see a more human side of Kael. Not that he's going soft or anything. Just becoming a bit more human. There's no doubt how perfect these guys are for each other. They make each other happy and isn't that really what matters?
The relationship between Angel and Kael is what drives my love of this series. In this installment we get more of that complicated relationship as it breaks down when faced with the elephant in the room: Kael is a cold-booded killer with no remorse for what he does and Angel isn't. It also seems that the organization they now both work for has political ambitions that are outside its stated mission. So we have bad guys vs. good guys and as usual Kael has a solution for that problem.
I loved getting to see more of Kael's Mum who is such a sweetheart and Kael is her biggest fan. She plays a key role in keeping Kael and Angel on track with their relationship. I'm also excited about Kael's father (one of the Russian bad guys). He has a story arc that is just getting started, which means there are more books to come if for no other reason than to deal with this nasty character. Will Kael get his revenge? Can't wait to find out how he does it.
Loved this addition to Kael and Angel's story but am conflicted. I loved Angel's new maturity but at the same time I really missed his crazy antics and blind devotion to Kael. It was painful to see Angel's light dim a bit in this one. There weren't a lot of sex scenes which I was fine with but again missed the way they dealt with each other in that area also. See? Conflicted. Great story but it felt different than the others and I'm hoping they'll be another book in the story. I just can't seem to get enough of these two and their friends and family.
Great end to this series. This was my favorite book of them all. Both Kael and Angel changed so much over the course of their relationship. Kael was definitely more compassionate and actually thought about others' feelings when he said things. And Angel learned that Kael wasn't as perfect as he thought. Their relationship hit a rocky patch and I wondered if they could overcome it. The , who Kael was so angry about being forced to see, really helped them.
I really enjoyed this latest addition to the series & I hope there will be more. It was saddening to see Angel's bright outlook at life dim when a mission he goes on with Kael & then when he is sent out alone. Also, he loses faith in his Daddy and I think that was the most heartbreaking. The ending came on way too quickly & was really rushed IMO.
