Jenna Byrnes could use more cabinet space and more hours in a day. She'd fill the kitchen with gadgets her husband purchases off TV and let him cook for her to his heart's content. She'd breeze through the days adding hours of sleep, and more time for writing the hot, erotic romance she loves to read. Jenna thinks everyone deserves a happy ending, and loves to provide as many of those as possible to her gay, lesbian and hetero characters. Her favourite quote, from a pro-gay billboard, is "Be careful who you hate. It may be someone you love."

GAH! I wanted to like this more than I did. I really enjoyed this authors Kansas City Detectives series, up until the last book I read. I hate to say this, but it seems like the author is pushing out book after book and not really caring about what's in it. Harsh? Maybe. I want to know about the WHY's. Why were these two together? Why did Drake pursue Matt? Why did Matt fall for Drake after he was so pissed at him? Convenience? There's more to a relationship than sex and I wanted to see it. I know this is a short story, but I need some substance.

Well, lots of verys! Very short, very insta, very close to fraternisation, very detailed sex!
Not sure if this was written for a collection but because of the short length we don’t get a lot of background build up which always makes what happens appear even more instantaneous.
Drake kind of comes across as a bit of a hard head, thoughh he is the one to pull strings. Matt does act a bit damsel-ish at times and a bit fast and free with his career.
It was OK but perhaps may have been better in a longer version.

The blurb for this story made it sound very interesting, unfortunately it didn’t follow through. What I expected was a little action and conflict between alpha males but what I got was a lot of sex between two alpha males.

The story starts with parajumper Matthew Billings being involved in a search and rescue operation involving a lost child. Billings spots the kid and rescues him with the help of Master Sergeant Drake Bogart. Later, it’s Bogart who takes all the credit for the save, which royally pisses off Matthew. Despite his anger, he can’t help but notice how attractive Drake is.

Jackass. A hot jackass to be sure, but one nevertheless.

The next day Matt is shocked when Drake shows up near his dormitory. It turns out that Bogart felt the same spark and is more than eager to jump into bed with him. Why? Ummm…I couldn’t tell you. Yeah, they were attracted to each other but their involvement could’ve lead to major trouble. But that doesn’t stop them from shagging like horny teenagers on prom night.

That’s pretty much the extent of their relationship—sex. And lots of it. Corny, eyeroll worthy, porn-ish sex. Some of the love scenes were erotic, but most just made me shake my head. The over-the-top dialogue ruined a lot of the scenes for me.

“Ooh, such a slut. I love that in a guy. You wanna be my ass slut, Matt?”

“Oh please. Yes, please! More. Harder. Fuck me so good.”

Jenna Byrnes is an excellent author, I’ve read an enjoyed her stuff before, but this one just didn’t impress me. It’s a bit on the insta-love side even if the guys never say the words. I never really got why they were together other than good sex, so when Bogart goes out of his way to ensure they can be together I wasn’t really sure why.

If lots of hot sex is your thing then this is the story for you. If you expect more than porn with plot then I’d avoid it.

Two parajumpers freefall into a stealthy relationship before considering how quickly it might come crashing to an end.

This is another story about how relocation in the military can affect relationships. Matt is in training to become a parajumper, and his dream is to be assigned to the 58th unit. During training, he meets Drake, also with the 58th, and the attraction is instant. But when Matt's assignment turns out to be on the other side of the country, some difficult decisions have to be made.

I like the story and the characters a lot, but I think Drake's character was never really explained. He's a jerk, and Matt is reluctant for about five seconds before falling into bed with him, but the fact that he's a jerk is never resolved. I also wasn't a fan of the sex scenes... the language was just not interesting or sexy to me. But that's a personal opinion, not necessarily a reflection of the author's writing ability.

Overall it was enjoyable, but not fantastic.

Airman First Class Matthew Billings has almost completed his training to become part of an elite group of men know as PJs. On a mission to rescue a missing child, he meets Master Sergeant Drake Bogart. He is very handsome but also very infuriating. When Matt spots the child, Drake takes the credit with no mention of Matt. Sparks fly and their relationship may crash before it even gets off the ground.

Matt and Drake’s relationship appeared to be based on sex. Matt wanted more but Drake refused to consider anything else. Matt should have known better but he reacted with bitterness. It was a short story and neither one was fully developed. It does work out in the end but you will have to read the book to find out how.
