Brian Tracy is an omniscient author who can share his insights into personal management, administration, business, growth, etc. This book is a marvel from him as well.
Tracy's exploration of negotiation, a pivotal skill in the realms of sales and marketing, is not just theoretical. His insights are immediately applicable to your business ventures, making this book an indispensable resource for personal development and negotiation strategies.
A short book but a very useful book mostly for those who are running business and even for daily life when countering situation that need negotiations it contains very useful points for negotiations to have win-win agreement. We all know how Brian Tracy's books are so useful if we apply it in our daily life.
Short but very comprehensive book about the art of negotiation.
The book tells really simple but crucial principles about the art of negotiation. However, though the principles might sound simple, practicing and implementing them in real life is not easy at all.
While the content is good, it felt like the negotiation tips and examples were primarily from the buyer's perspective and not as much from the seller's perspective.
So, if you are looking to improve your negotiation skills as a sales person, this may not be the best book.
Introduction: A Timely Recommendation Upon my father's recommendation, I turned to Brian Tracy's "Negotiation" during a crucial phase of career advancement and transition. This book arrived as I navigate the complexities of job hunting and prepare for roles that require adept negotiation skills, particularly in environments influenced by union environments. Having appreciated Tracy's insights in "No Excuses," I was intrigued to see how his second book would equip me with strategies for these specific challenges.
Comprehensive Overview: Negotiation as a Lifelong Skill Tracy's journey through the negotiation process, from the first to the twenty-first chapter, underscores the practice as both a relational endeavor and a skill that one can develop over time. The book emphasizes the pursuit of win-win outcomes and the value of negotiation as a learned competence, resonating with my belief in the importance of fostering positive relationships while achieving one’s objectives.
Strengths: Directness and Practical Application The core strength of "Negotiation" lies in its succinctness and the practicality of its examples, which span from employment negotiations to buying and selling in personal life. Tracy's ability to distill complex negotiation scenarios into actionable strategies provides readers with a concise guide that is both informative and easy to digest.
Areas for Enhancement: Depth of Relationship Building While the book succeeds in covering a wide range of negotiation contexts, it could delve deeper into the nuances of mindset and relationship-building in negotiations. Although it champions an empathetic approach, certain strategies presented, such as the 'walk-away' technique, seem to contradict this philosophy, hinting at potential manipulative undertones.
Conclusion: A Worthwhile Read with Room for Improvement Overall, "Negotiation" by Brian Tracy is a valuable resource for individuals stepping into leadership roles within unionized settings, offering a broad spectrum of negotiation strategies. My Goodreads rating of 3 out of 5 reflects its practical usefulness, tempered by a wish for a more in-depth exploration of the relational aspects of negotiation. Despite its occasional dryness, the insights gained are undeniably beneficial for those looking to enhance their negotiation capabilities. #Negotiation #BrianTracy #NoExcuses #TheClarkCommunique #Leadership #UnionNegotiations #BookReview
🧠 A Great Starting Point for Learning to Negotiate
This is a great book for anyone who wants to start learning how to negotiate. I gave it five stars because it taught me simple, practical principles that I could apply right away. Personally, I used to give in too easily during deals and struggled to find good outcomes. This book helped me realize that negotiation is a skill you can learn and improve with practice.
One of the most powerful lessons was the importance of the win-win mindset—clearly understanding what I want, listening to the other side, and working toward an outcome that benefits both. I’ve already applied some of these ideas in recent purchases and seen positive results.
It’s not a deep or technical book, but it’s clear, motivating, and perfect for beginners. I only wish a few concepts had more examples or dialogue. Still, it gave me a solid foundation to keep practicing and improving.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to gain confidence and stop overpaying—because negotiating well can help you spend less and earn more.
As for me, this particular book is the one to be read in a train or in a queue. Considering the models list: There are several models which are dupls or a parts of each other. No certain examples for majority of the structures, and if they are presented they are hardly could be named true-to-life: for example, I can't imagine the govermental structure to approve postpayment terms instead of advance when I declare that I will be able to make a payback only after the income is formed. Though my doubts are based on my previous expirience in Russian reality (the country I was born), I hardly believe the confidence and open-mindedness to different approaches are those key skills to succeed despite of the location and traditions.
Anyway, this information might not go amiss on a way of the motivation achievement.
As an avid reader of self-improvement and negotiation books, I was eager to dive into Brian Tracy's "Negotiation." However, my experience with this book left much to be desired. Tracy's writing style came across as overly preachy, often stating principles without offering much depth or new insights.
Moreover, the book didnt have enough real-world examples or case studies to illustrate its points effectively. Without these, it was challenging to envision how to apply Tracy's advice in practical negotiation scenarios.
In summary, while "Negotiation" by Brian Tracy touches on fundamental negotiation strategies, its preachy tone and repetitive nature detract from its potential value. Readers seeking a more insightful and engaging exploration of negotiation techniques may want to consider other options in the genre
Brian clearly delivers his points and challenged my preconceived ideas of where, when and who negotiates. His frequent use of anecdotes helps anchor his ideas to the real world, and he also uses examples that are sourced from a variety of experiences (car deals, business deals, store sales, couples discussion, house sales, rental agreements, etc). Very worth the read, and I will be perusing to the relevant chapter for tips for the type of bargaining I fare the worst at: one-off adversarial bargaining!
Kudos Brian for giving me more confidence in this life long skill
I have been a fan of Brian Tracy since the 1980's when I purchased my first of his audiobook programs. He's an excellent communicator and speaks slowly enough to make sure you have time to really process and contemplate what he is speaking of. He has a knack for emphisizing key points in such a way that they stick in your memory. Personally, it's been a while since I read this, but I do recall it helped me considerably at that time.
If you want to become a better negotiator or even you want to be successful in the things you do in life, this is a must read book. There is some great information in this book that will help you negotiate everything from a new car or house to selling a product or service and to even getting a new job.
Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us. It's amazing how negotiation skills help one onto the path of personal and professional development and success.
This book is great for knowing the basic of negotiation. But most of the book is about telling negotiation for buyer, when I expect both or to be a sales more.
