Time is not a river. It is a vast cosmic sea. Where each life exists as rippling circles on its surface, past and future being eternally present. And occasionally, one expanding ring intertwines with that of another, weaving the lives of two people together . . .
Intertwine
In 2012, Emme Wilde can’t find the right guy. Instead, she obsesses over the portrait of an unknown man in an old locket. Granted, a seriously dreamy guy with delicious, wind-swept hair she just itches to run her fingers through. Emme travels to England, determined to uncover his history and conquer the strong connection she feels. In 1812, James Knight has given up finding the right woman. But then he finds a beautiful mystery woman, dripping wet and half-dead, beneath a tree on his estate. Now if he can uncover her history, perhaps adventure—and romance—will find him at last
Divine
Georgiana Knight--born in the nineteenth century, but now living in 2013--discovers a centuries-old love letter written in her own handwriting. Should she risk giving up hot showers and return to the past to discover the mysterious stranger who inspired (will inspire?) her passionate letter? In 1813, Sebastian Carew is madly in love with his childhood friend, Georgiana. He is determined to find Georgiana and win her affections. However, she has utterly vanished. Can he divine the truth of her disappearance and convince her to marry him before time runs out?
Clandestine
In 2014, Marc Wilde--martial artist and actor--finds his life a mess. Someone knows about the time portal in the cellar of Duir Cottage and is threatening to tell the world unless Marc pays up. So yeah . . . life not going so well. In 1814, Kit Ashton has problems of her own. Her brother has disappeared (again), leaving Kit penniless and forcing her to take up employment as a lady's companion (sigh). Add in the sudden appearance of a wind-swept, silver-tongued rogue who makes Kit want to flirt, flirt, flirt . . . it all leaves her one misstep from disaster. Kit is determined to find her brother and return home, all while guarding her heart and (most importantly) keeping her secrets . . . well . . . secret.
Refine
In 1815, Timothy, Viscount Linwood—handsome, arrogant, privileged—never veers from the refined rules of his world. But then Fate intervenes and draws him to a vivid woman who makes him want things he can never have. Can a pompous lord change enough to find redemption? In 2015, Jasmine Fleury just wants her happily-ever-after. If only she could stop losing people instead. Worse, she finds herself babysitting a haughty nineteenth century lord who can't even shave himself. She has no interest in playing damsel-in-shining-armor to his knight-in-distress. But Fate has other plans . . .
Explore four stories of love which transcend Time itself.
This was a fun series. The concept in each book was always the same, but the characters and situations changed up enough that it didn't feel like the same thing over and over. Book one had my favorite hero. Book two was sweet and had the reunited childhood friends plot that I always enjoy. The third book was my favorite because I was honestly surprised at the direction the plot took. And book four was refreshing because the hero was different from all the others, a lot more difficult to like, but his change of heart was gradual enough that I could buy into it.
First and the last were my favorites but they are all wonderful, clean, cute, funny and I list myself in them. Love this author! Thanks again Nicole Van for another wonderful, clean way to run away to another world for a bit 💕
I loved this series. It was funny, the time travel was an interesting way to contrast "style" and lifestyle that feel so necessary but are actually contrived by style setters. The characters were well drawn and changed and adapted. There was always an unsuspected twist in every book and good suspense. The love stories were more realistic, and characters were shown getting to know each other before falling in love, which is rare in a Regency romance. Every relationship accepted that life was not perfect and compromise was part of finding happiness. Plus...the heroes were without exception well built and astonishingly strong no matter the lifestyle. The heroines had variety but were always thought to be beautiful by the men in love with them, and impulsiveness was valued as being spirited. The women were without exception very bright and intelligent. This was a refreshing and well thought out series, with a good amount of fun and humor mixed in. Wishing I had an ancient oak tree in the backyard to give depth and experience to my genealogy research. I would love to go back to their world, ask a lot of questions, and meet them before writing their life story. All I have now is google to take me back to their time and old photos, maps showing rivers and forests, dates of their life events....
Of all the books in this series, I loved this one the best.
Perhaps because this one incorporates more of the mysticism surrounding the portal and ties things up for us rather heartily in the end -- thank you for the happy ending!! I don't want to give anything away to other readers. It is worth reading the other books before this one to truly enjoy some of the snarky comments and situations the characters find themselves in (share in the insider's knowledge).
Ok. This whole 4 book series is like insanely awesome! I am so sad to finish. I wish Mrs Van will write a sequel to this series. Maybe the next generation portal keeper and a whole new set of characters with Mina and Timothy’s daughter as the main character??? Just sayin is all. You. Must. Read. The. Whole. Series. You will absolutely positively love this series. I’m a new fan of Mrs Van!
I was intrigued by the premise of this collection. After reading the first book, I wondered why there were any more stories. The story ended well.... I am so glad the author wrote more stories! I totally binge-read the whole series in a weekend. I love the mix between regency and modern days. The characters are well written & likable. I will definitely look for more books by this author!
I really enjoyed this series. The books were a perfect blend of time travel, mystery and romance. The characters were enjoyable and the humor was great. I couldn't imagine liking each successive book as much as the first but they did not disappoint. Each was enough different to keep me fully engaged. I will look for more books by this author!
I loved this series so much and didn't want it to end. All the characters are so loveable. I can't say which one is my favorite since they all are great. I love books that the characters come to our time. As I was reading the stories I was thinking they would make a great tv series. Now I'm going to read her other books.
This is a fun, sweet regency time travel series that blends sassy heroines and heart-throbby heroes. I enjoyed Georgiana and Sebastian’s friends-to-lovers story the most (Divine), and absolutely loved Timothy Linwood’s character in Refine. And you have to admit, these are by far some of the best covers in the genre. Nicely done!
10 stars.. witty, romantic, time travel, believable characters and clean too. So thankful to the author 4 KU so I could read these uh-mazing books!! Highly recommended!
The mark of a good story is if it is worth reading again. I have just finished reading this wonderfully inventive forward and back time travel series for the third time. My alter ego has reviewed all these books on Amazon.
This series was very clean and fun. I love to these characters and enjoy the storyline. It had a good pace and a wonderful direction. The heartwarming story. I enjoyed every bit of this series and would recommended to anyone.
Nichole Van is a wonderful author that I have read House of Oak series. From 2012 to 1812, 2013 to 1813, 2014 to 1814 and 2015 to 1815. All going backward and forward in time and finding their true loves. Finally realizing that Jasmine was the true portal’s keeper.
Where do I start?? I absolutely loved every facet of these books!! The imagination, the story lines, the characters! I'm sad that they ended. But on to the next books!
This series is STUNNING! Each book has its own personality all leading up to an unbelievable ending. Fantasy fiction at its best. Add hilarious dialogue. Add beautiful women. Add swoon worthy men. Loved it!
The first book had a some issues (the amnesia thing) but the series got better with each book and I really loved all the couples and stories. I posted the individual reviews under each book.
Re-read this whole 4 book series in a week - super easy reads, and a fun little time travel regency romance series - I had the itch to read some fluff this week…
For the record, I have to say that Nichole Van has won me over with her wonderful writing. I first read her Novella "An Invisible Heiress" from Spring in Hyde Park and loved that story about Miss Heartstone. I thought to myself, surely this gifted writer has more. I looked up and found the House of Oak Set. I read the synopsis and thought hmm...I am not a fan of time travel, but I could not resist the pull of it. (Maybe Jasmine had a hand in that.) I bought the series for a good price on Amazon. Can I just say..."Amazing"!!! I loved every story and every character. I laughed, I cried, and I just got all caught up in the romance of it all. Who would have thought you could combine today with nineteenth century in such a way? I will forever be reading this series over and over again. Who could not love James, Seb, Marc (Lord Vader, couldn't resist), and Timothy? Even my Mike was shocked to hear me laughing so much when I could not put the tablet down. I loved each story but oh when Viscount Linwood gets his story in the forth one...truly entertaining and enchanting. I was jumping up and down when I saw Miss Heartstone was introduced in that story. Please, please continue to write more. You are truly gifted, Nichole Van. Thank you and I eagerly look forward to your next writing adventure.
I love the Outlander series, so I'm always on the search for well-written novels in the same-ish genre. It's quite easy to find horribly written novels in this genre, so I start and never finish a lot of time travel romance books.
The House of Oak series was a happy surprise. The writing is really good, and the storyline believable. (Well, as believable as time travel romance can get. If you can't suspend logic and accept the time travel premise this is not the genre for you.)
The novels follow a series of couples and how they are brought together by fate and a time portal. I liked how some people traveled into the past, but some also travelled to the future and all the adjustments that would take for a person from the 19th century to adjust to modern life.
I can't wait to read more from Nichole Van, and hope she adds to her collection soon!
I LOVE this series. Each one gets better than the last, even though I though the first one was pretty perfect. You get all of the good stuff of regency era, plus all of the hilarious commentary of the 20th century. It really is the best of both worlds.
I actually read over 180 books this past year, all various forms of (mostly) clean romance. (9 months of depressing bed rest). All four books of this series are in my top 15.
Did I tell you that I loved this series? The first book is a nearly perfect regency romance. It's also a nearly perfect contemporary romance. I'm tellin' ya, you're gonna to love it. The second book is adorable, the third book is hilarious, and the fourth book made me cry ugly, ugly tears. And the ending to the whole thing is so perfect, tying all the characters together.
It's been a long time since I've had to binge read any series, but House of Oak had me ignoring just about everything else to breeze through these fun books. The main characters were real and well-rounded and it was a joy to follow their growing relationships. Each story had great twists and turns, keeping me guessing through the story, which is always a plus for me. As a group, I felt the 3rd book's main characters were the least engaging, though I was still happy to see Marc's story. And a few times as I read the series I noticed circumstances that tried my "suspension of disbelief", but the characters were compelling enough and the writing engaging enough to skim past those issues. Overall a great series that I will probably reread.
Loved this series! I loved that it was imaginative, witty, enjoyable and clean! I felt the characters could be my friends which means they felt fleshed out and full of life. The plot was not a retread and had plenty of twists and turns that kept me entertained. I'm particularly pleased with the conclusion as I liked the way it gave us hope for not only love to be eternal but also friendships! The only tiny criticism I have is that I wish that Georgiana and Sebastian had showed a bit more in later books. I have reread this series on April 15, 2017 in preparation for the new book in the series... I still laughed out loud and smiled- it still captured my heart the second time around!
I did quite like this book. It has some great humor, I quite enjoy the writer's style, she does a great job. I also like how not every little thing is spelled out for you. For the first couple chapters you aren't explained everything, and it really helps make the book more intriguing. I have now finished the entire series and while, each story was a little predictable, they were also quite fun to read. Can't wait to read more by this author!
Loved the humour that threaded it's way through these books. Characters were believable. Some interesting delving into the psychology of the grieving process. A beautifully crafted storyline a very enjoyable light hearted read. Will look for more from this author
Very charming characters set in different points in time creates stories you want to read again and again. Thank you Nichole Van, for sharing your unique gifts!
