New York Times best selling author Gregg Braden is internationally renowned as a pioneer in bridging science and spirituality. Following a successful career as a Computer Geologist for Phillips Petroleum during the 1970s energy crisis, he became a Senior Computer Systems Designer for Martin Marietta Defense Systems during the last year of the Cold War. In 1991 he was appointed the first Technical Operations Manager for Cisco Systems where he led the development of the global support team that assures the reliability of today’s Internet. For more than 22 years, Gregg has searched high mountain villages, remote monasteries, and forgotten texts to uncover their timeless secrets. To date, his work has led to such paradigm-shattering books as The Isaiah Effect, The God Code, The Divine Matrix and his 2008 release, The Spontaneous Healing of Belief: Shattering the Paradigm of False Limits. Gregg’s work is now published in 17 languages and 27 countries and shows us beyond any reasonable doubt that the key to our future lies in the wisdom of our past.
It was interesting to read this book during the coronavirus pandemic while I was furloughed from work. For me, the author's advice boiled down to personal coping strategies to reduce stress and respond mindfully to change, which isn't new, though most of the book was geared more toward grander-scale change. Therefore, I feel it was more geared toward people in leadership positions or business management rather than personal development.
Starting this book I was already well acquainted with Braden's research and teaching. Yet even for someone who is just starting out, it is a great book guiding you through the vast research he accumulates and boils down to its essence so well. What is more, it is a book to help us prepare for change, without dogmatic preaching or doom-and-gloom prophecy. I'd even call it upbeat and hopeful as he shows how many aspects have already been explored and how to make this your own. That said, this is not a passive book, but a call to action. It is for those ready to make the change and embrace their growth, and might leave a bitter taste for those who rather slumber on.
A must read book. This is not just a self-help book. This is about our entire life existence - where we come from to where we are going. Gregg Braden takes peer-reviewed scientific data to explain incredibly complicated concepts and paradigms in a step by step heartfelt way that all you have to do is keep an open mind and you will clearly understand them all.
What you believe is your own choice. But to have a opinion about anything, it's good to know both sides of the equation. Reading this book will help you be a better human being. That's my take away.
Gregg never ceases to amaze me. His in-depth research yet again brings an extremely insightful journey into the potential of being human. It was an added huge bonus to know about all the research that is going on about a fundamental aspect of our true nature and essence. It is impossible to summarize this book is a review, but for anyone interested into our true potential, away from wars and self-destruction, this book is an absolute must.
This book started out very interesting for me. I enjoyed the information about heart rhythms and the intelligence of the heart. I was part-way through chapter 6 when I had to stop reading. While I doubt it was Braden's intention, that chapter caused me to feel anxious and a bit depressed and fatalistic. I don't read or watch things that affect my energy field in that manner.
This book is packed with lots of good information and it's unfortunate much of it has been suppressed. We have been sold a lie that says what you do in one location has no impact somewhere else and look at the damage to this world. Read this book and you will see the truth which is verifiable.
Thanks to Hay House and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this book. I was anxious to see what had been added in this edition of a book first published 10 years ago. While most of the book is as I remembered it, the added information about brain-like cells located within the human heart was extremely interesting and makes me want to research more to find out how widely accepted this is in scientific circles. I always enjoy Gregg Braden's books and this one is no exception.
Very well written! I have enjoyed reading many of Gregg Braden's books! We really are living in extreme times! There are so many questions that he addresses so well! I will look at the other materials and books that he recommends and read some .more of his work s as well!
Good book, great examples especially on personal resilience. I loved the "listening to the heart" exercises in the book as well as in the videos that Gregg provided. A lot of insight that I was not previously aware of. I can't wait to take the course that comes with this book.
I was amazed to learn that scientists have found brain like cells in the heart. Apparently, there is a sophisticated two-way communication that occurs between the heart and the brain, with each influencing the other’s function.
“Whether it’s based in emotions from stress or harmony, the conversation between heart and brain—specifically, between the sensory neurites in our hearts and those that make up our brains—is constantly occurring as a dialogue of very low frequencies. It’s this conversation that creates the harmony of heart-brain coherence described previously. When the coherence is optimal, the frequency is approximately 0.10 Hertz. This is indeed a very low vibration, below the threshold of 20 Hertz, which is typically the lowest frequency humans can detect with the unaided ear. The 0.10 Hertz frequency is, however, detectable by other forms of life, including whales and some kinds of fish. And it’s this frequency that’s believed to play a vital role in the subconscious cues we detect when we’re in the presence of other hearts: the ‘vibes’ ”
Braden affirms that not only our hearts are the gateways to our intuition and our personal guidance but that with practice we can access the wisdom of our hearts on demand. He suggests the following steps to get in touch with our heart.
Step 1: Focus your awareness to the region of the heart Step 2: Slow your breathing Step 3: Feel a genuine sense of caring, appreciation, gratitude, or compassion for anything or anyone. Step 4: Ask a brief question while maintaining your attention on your heart. Step 5: Listen to your body’s response.
And Step 5 is the tricky part, there is no one way of response. Everyone gets the information differently. The key, Braden tells us, is to know what works best for us.
I gave three stars to the book because the author did not concentrate enough on the heart-brain connection and this is exactly what attracted me to the book.
After the first two chapters, Gregg Braden just keeps hopping from one subject to the next without exploring any of the subjects in depth. Maybe his intention was to draw a broad picture of our outdated ways of thinking and behaving. He obviously encourages us to change…. explore new sustainable energies, collaborate instead of compete etc., but I wanted to read more on the heart-brain connection.
