Volume 2 of the hit science fiction series continues! In search of revenge or a way out, Abram Pollux crosses the grey line to the dark side of planet Ouro, where humanity has no place. Mysteries unravel in the second chapter of the brooding sci-fi epic.
SUPER FAST REVIEW: Okay so this volume was pretty good but not as strong as the first. The story is interesting and developing more. The art is really good and this is pretty intense for sure. I thought the characters had potential in volume 1 but only care about one of them in the second volume TBH. The ending was a kinda abrupt way to end a volume I think. Overall, this second volume is pretty good but not as good as volume one. Still worth reading.
The sci-fi artwork is very cool, but the story is just too cryptic for me to get a handle on. I'm all for a creative story, but not to the point of having no clue as to what is going on or caring very little for any of the characters. Not continuing on any further with the series.
Almost impossible to remember what happened in volume 1. I love the weird sci-fi vibe in a Borderlands style world. I can't help but wonder if this planet is supposed to be Hell or Purgatory, and everyone here is dead and that's why they can't remember their lives before coming to the planet. I sincerely hope that's the direction the comic's headed. It does make me wonder what it means, then, when a person on the planet dies.
The Wild West in Space, upon a new planet, this brilliant concept works fine, in this volume Abram Pollux explores the dark side of the planet that he finds himeself upon. New Characters, creatures, Excellent artwork, throughout the novel. No negatives. Fresh storyline that is expanding in a very interesting way.
2.5/5 It's hard for me to give this book such a low rating. On one hand I really like Ivan Brandon's ideas and voice. His writing has this uncompromising quality similar to science fiction stories found in comics magazines like Heavy Metal and 2000 AD. On the other this same uncompromising quality can get really tiring for my patience. I read the first volume just last summer and I already forgot essential details, like who exactly is the protagonist of the story. Unfortunately the second volume wasn't much of a help in this regard, since it took like two issues worth of pages to finally establish who is the brooding narrator we keep hearing. On top of this we have a storyline which essentially boils down to being a B-plot (the sheriff who remained in the town) and completely inconsequential one at that to the main story (a group trying to acquire a generator or whatever they need for their survival from a crashed spaceship). I understand that something on the planet jumbles every living person's memory, but this by itself is not good enough of an excuse for the storytelling to be this cryptic and confusing. It's a shame, especially if I take the beautiful artwork into consideration. I'm not saying it is wasted on a sub-par story, but man, do I wanted more out of this premise. I probably read through the whole series, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone outside from hardcore SF fans.
The art is still nice and you still have lots of questions. In fact, you have more questions on top of the many questions the first book posed to the reader. I realize from reading other reviews this really bothers a decent number of readers. I'm probably in for the next volume though (it helps I read book one and two back to back).
I dropped a star because of the religious nut-job trope. I'm weary of it. One person is religious and they do some terrible things to people and are generally a horrible awful person, because, religion. It looks like that story thread is done and it shan't be missed going forward.
I never read vol 1. But I came across this volume 2 and I couldn't resist the art. The coloring is so stunning. 5 star coloring. Plot... uhm... wanderers on a weird planet looking for parts for...something.....BUT THAT COLORING THO.
I was really into the first volume but reading through this one gave me "Lost" vibes, i.e. it has a bunch of intriguing "wtf" moments in it but I'm not convinced it'll have a worthy payoff. Will likely give volume 3 a try before deciding.
The second volume explores ramifications from the confrontations in the first collected volume and unleashes a fury that consumes the final pages. The art continues to be off the charts.
Passo a explicar.
After reviewing Volume 1 and stating that I wouldn’t bother with Volume 2, here I am! As predicted, this has not improved. After Jonah’s death, the other characters behave in different ways. Some go off to find parts for a hip, others mourn in other ways. I didn’t finish this – it’s too confusing or unclear. Getting it was a mistake.
