After six years of a relationship going nowhere, Jett has moved away to start over. Maybe his new neighbour David can help distract him from the ache left by his ex's absence.
David on the other hand has a whole root cellar full of lovers. He doesn't need another one. And no matter what treats Jett offers, David knows nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

Ofelia Gränd is Swedish, which often shines through in her stories. She likes to write about everyday people ending up in not-so-everyday situations, and hopefully also getting out of them. She writes contemporary, paranormal, romance, horror, Sci-Fi and whatever else catches her fancy.
Her books are written for readers who want to take a break from their everyday life for an hour or two.
When Ofelia manages to tear herself from the screen and sneak away from husband and children, she likes to take walks in the woods. She’s recently discovered the miracle of podcasts and spends her strolls listening to wise people talk.
I've never been a fan of horror, but I did watch all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, and that same "QUICK!!! RUN!!!" thing kind of translates...except when you're watching a film, people can see what you're yelling at and banging your head about.
Shrieking "Nooooo! Don't go in there!" at a book? It makes you look like a crazy person.
So yeah. This is a fun, scary and rather disturbing read!
Deadly Sugar: Ofelia Grand Shitfuck but this is chilling stuff. Do we ever really know our neighbours or friends?? Just what is in that garden shed at the bottom of their garden?? And that is the point - the charcters could be anyone. Ms Grand has an almost deadpan way of writing , which makes me wonder about her sanity. On the outside she is this
But insisde???
Yes, she is Alice Cooper :D
I think they are such refreshing reads for the MM genre!!!!
A re-read because it's so twisted and I love it :D
*Looks longingly at cupcake before pushing it away*
*sighs*
I may never looks at sweets the same way again.
Jett is a pastry chef. He knows the way to every man's heart is through his stomach, and eventually he'll melt his new neighbour, David's, heart. He just has to find the right sweet to win him over. Jett's going to bake himself up a perfect life, damn it! And nothing is going to slow down his determination .
David has some deadly secrets. Ones that extend from the rose garden all the way to the root cellar. He has an entire room filled with secrets just waiting to be discovered. If only his pesky neighbour would stop calling around. Something is going to have to be done about that man. Unless... there is some potential. Jett could be a thing of beauty. He just needs David's help in getting there.
Deliciously spooky, with unexpected twists and turns, Deadly Sugar is bound to leave you wondering just how skinny the author's family really is.
It's as dark and twisted, as it is fun. This story will have you eyeballing your neighbors, and shocked at it's ending.
I dig Ofelia Gränd's writing style. This is only my second read from this author. And it delivers. In fact, I still haven't quite recovered from reading it! I may have to swan-dive into the nearest chocolate cake to steady my nerves a bit. This shifting POV story offers fantastically distinct voices and a wicked wicked ending.
This new to me author sure knows how to deliver a short but creepy story. It's those kind of horror stories where not a single blood drop is shed (in the garden shed 😂) omg what am I writing? Not sure I'm inviting my neighbor over anytime soon. Also not sure I'll be able to lose those images seared into my brain. Deep breaths and maybe I'll brave the second part.
I finished this short story with a stunned expression on my face and thoughts of “WTF did I just read?” rambling through my mind. For some oddball reason, I was expecting a funny Halloween campfire ghost story that kept you on the edge of your seat until someone says “Boo” and you realize it was all a game. Well, someone said Boo alright, but there was no game and the ending was mind boggling.
David has a thing about fat and sugar being evil, enough of an issue to take matters into his own hands…and home. Jett is his new neighbor, a neighbor who is committed to finding the perfect sweet concoction to impress his surly neighbor. Jett is on the outs with his Ex and living on his own for the first time and is lonely. He just wants a friend. Too bad that new friend in his sights is a psycho.
I was not ready for this story. I still have no idea why I thought it would be a miscommunication, and wacky love affair, but believe me when I say it was not any of those things. What we have here is a horrific tale of kidnapping, forced starvation, rape (all off page and insinuated), and murder. And I loved it for the most part. I kept waiting on the punch line, but when the book was over, it finally sunk in that there was no traditional happy ending…for David.
Still, I can’t wait to read the sequel, because that ending was a real doozy.
This book was just crazy. Jett leaves his boyfriend of six years Josh he is ready to settle down get married have some kids but Josh isn't ready. He buys a house that has been vacant for awhile. David is his neighbor he's very standoffish and weird. David has been kidnapping men and starving them and having sex with them it was weird. David wants Jett but he wants him as one of his play things until he got the tables turned on him. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This is an entertaining short story but I didn't get very involved in it. Yes, Daniel was a creepy fucker and it was clear from the beginning that Jett was in danger. The problem was that I really didn't care about Jett, he gave me some chilling vibes himself and .
And I could have done without the epilogue, tbh. Leaving the story ending open with adults in danger is one thing, but with a little kid? Argh!
This story is part of the book Buried Desires and this review can also be found there.
Deadly Sugar (contemporary, horror, mystery, suspense, icky, not really an ending, not really a romance)
Grand’s ‘Deadly Sugar’ combines everything I like about a well-done horror story: suspense, mystery, and well-timed build up of tension. And just enough horrific detail to make you shiver: I loved the play around food, no… more specifically, with eating. Or, the obsession with it… it’s intriguing and disturbing. Who knew vegetarians were so dangerous?
All wrapped up in clever, moody storytelling and smooth writing, yessssss…. This was a solid 4 star read right up until the chilling end. When the story just stopped. And it became clear this is a teaser for a sequel, or maybe the next stop in a serial. Ugh. There was no indication (when I started reading) of this in the GR story blurb. Reading interruptus is not tasty at all!
Everyone is hiding something. That’s what I loved about this… even the seemingly innocent have hidden layers, hidden desires, waiting…
This is more queer horror than MM romance, but it was quite enjoyable for its short length. The bonus chapter at the end gives quite the different ending, one that I'm not necessarily sure I preferred. But I do plan on continuing with the series.
