Perfect captures the simplicity, spontaneity and freedom of an idyllic childhood, while Freya Blackwood's paintings of the three children roaming a rolling beachside idyll capture the light - and even the smell and feel - of a perfect summer day.
Is there a more perfect representation of an idyllic childhood? Not just the sort you might have enjoyed, but the sort you want to give to your children? I was drawn to this book because I'm a fan of Freya Blackwood's art, but Danny Parker's gentle rhyming text matched with Freya's work totally completely. It's just Perfect, as the title states.
Australian author/illustrator team Danny Parker and Freya Blackwood, who would go on to collaborate on Molly and Mae: A Friendship Journey, first worked together here, on this lovely picture-book. A gentle text in rhyme sets out the activities of the perfect day, whether it be raining or shining, while the accompanying artwork depicts three siblings and their cat companion engaged in said activities...
With a simple but expressive text in rhyme - "Some sunshine and something to nibble. / Some space with enough room to scribble. / An apron and big bowls for mixing. / Some glue, and some things that need fixing" - and gorgeous pencil and acrylic artwork, Perfect is... well, practically perfect. If it had tugged a little more on my heartstrings, it might have been one of my rare five star titles. As it is, it is a very high 4.5 stars. Parker and Blackwood capture the magic of playing outside on warm, sunny days, and the enchantment of playing indoors on rainy evenings. Blackwood also captures the perfect charm of a beautiful feline, in the form of the children's cat companion, who is a simply delightful participant in all the day's doings. Recommended to fellow fans of Freya Blackwood - I'm a huge admirer! - as well as to those looking for gentle, almost contemplative stories about long days of play and fun.
Perfect by Danny Parker has been illustrated by award winning illustrator Freya Blackwood. When Parker found out who had been assigned to illustrate his book, he must have rubbed his hands together with delight and thought, 'perfect!'
Perfect is also the perfect theme for Blackwood. A story that promotes the simple pleasures of childhood is something she is no stranger to,
Her delightful, idyllic drawings add a charm to the everyday happenings of this group of young siblings who eat, play, create, fix, make and imagine the day away together.
The siblings all use their day in age appropriate fashion, according to their developmental stage. We see the older ones helping the toddler and the younger ones trying to copy their big sister. Full review - http://bronasbooks.blogspot.com.au/20...
And it just about is...perfect, that is. Clean crisp unadulterated verse marry indescribably well Freya Blackwood's timeless illustrations. Both Miss 10 and I are really beginning to warm to Parker's intense yet unclouded style. Beautiful.
No nyt menee ihan pelkän fiilistelyn piikkiin! Mahtavat vanhanaikainen kuvitus, jossa on käytetty jänniä kuvakulmia ja erilaisia sommitelmia. Tekstit toi mieleen hiukan Underwoodin Ihan hiljaa.
Sylissäluettavaksi, yhdessä nautittavaksi. Onnenpäivä.
Perfect and timeless illustration by freya Blackwood, perfect quiet reading and perfect , just a little bit feel of that nostalgia, with the perfect toned paper that freya used. A book that worth to buy and keep.
Such a simple, easy book that my son and I both like to get lost in. The words rhyme well, as well as telling a nice story. Few words, which is great, and beautiful illustrations to look at and ponder. Love it!
Perfect by Danny Parker is a story of what a "Perfect" day may look like for a child. It is a story of being in touch with the world and doing the simple things in life which make a "perfect" and happy day.
Beautiful and perfect just as childhood should be. Captures the beauty of a childhood that seems lost to many children nowadays who are distracted by electronic devices, unaware of the joys in the little things that their environment and most importantly the people - like siblings - have to offer.
Cute! Beautiful illustrations capturing the picturesque coastal farm adventures of a family of young children ... Class asked where their parents were!
This is my most favourite picture book to date. When I read it it makes me want to leave the big smoke and head to the country side for the simple life. Perfect book;)
This book kind of makes me nostalgic in that way that makes me a little sad for kids today. There wasn't any technology in sight, and the day was still somehow full =P
